1.
I can imagine the SEO for Westfield could be a little difficult what with that well known shopping mall! Steve's delighted with the positive comments, and a little bird tells me he has another identical one in stock...
He also has (had?) the charcoal grey metallic listed on the website - that was pretty tempting too. I wonder if he's going to get a rush on Westfield P-bass sales Trying to justify why I wouldn't need another one... do basses get lonely?
2.
A proper, old school, independent music shop, Bedrock. Steve will love your description - we're good mates, I'll show him your post when I see him on Sunday!
I was well impressed with the service - Steve was so helpful and was willing to ship the bass despite not usually doing mail order over the net, and he packaged it up so well - best bass parcel I've ever had. I had been searching for a Westfield B1000 and his site never turned up in the Google search results (hence obscure... for certain values of obscure ). I actually came across the site because he is listed as a Cort retailer on the Cort website (I had been looking for a stockist of B4s) - went there and first bass in the list was the Westfield.
3. I've had a couple of these - a Custom - maple body with jazz pickups. Through the amp I had at the time it sounded weak so I sold it... was a stupid move, it was the amp, not the bass... Then picked up a black one with the EMG Selects and it was... OK. Moved it one after a while because it just wasn't getting any use and the condition wasn't great. Would buy another Custom in a heartbeat if I could. Friend has a black Jack with the EMGs that he's had since he bought it new years and years ago, it's immaculate - but he won't sell it to me
4. Well, after my post about getting hold of a decent "base" for a project bass - I found a Westfield metallic purple p-bass on an obscure music shop website (Bedrock Music in West Sussex - http://bedrockmusic.com/). Sent an e-mail enquiry, sent the cash over PayPal and the bass turned up a couple of days later (incredibly well packaged thank you Steve!) For the price it's a pretty decent bit of kit. Lightweight, though on a webbing strap the head dives straight for the floor, on a leather strap it balances nicely. Hardware is pretty - standard BBOT, reasonably good tuners that keep everything in tune. Pickup is a touch on the (very) weedy side - so there is an SD Quarter Pounder on its way from eBay to go along with a KiOgon wiring loom that should be here very soon. The neck is satin finished and quite nice - not higly figured wood but pleasant enough to look. Fret ends are a touch sharp and a bit uneven - so will probably need to learn about filing and levelling. Overall - very happy and will actually take my time to see what needs replacing (after the pickup...) rather than just diving in and doing everything.
5. Yeah, there's a nagging feeling I'm going to regret this... but we're just not really getting along as I have a shoulder problem that is such that any five string I play leaves me in pain. However I adjust it, however it sits, whatever the weight... I've been through 5 different ones in the last year and this was the "holy grail" - but problem is not alleviated and as soon as I switch to a four string everything is fine. So, I think I have to admit defeat, despite my love for playing five string.
6. Status Graphite Streamline in satin white - one of a kind. No trades at the moment, thank you. Bought recently and tentatively considering selling as I'm not doing so well with five string basses. It's me, not the bass... In superb condition apart from a mark on the neck (shown very exaggerated in one of the photos - it's much paler when not pushed through a photo editor...) from the gigbag's internal strap. Sound is amazing and consistent across all five strings with a huge variety of tones available from the two humbucker pickups with 2-band EQ and 18v electrics. Would prefer collection from Frome in Somerset with cash on collection but open to shipping. Anyone is welcome to come and try it out through a GK MB500 head into two 12" MarkBass cabs. 7. It went down to about £93. I didn't want to buy one but when I did look they'd all long gone...
8. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
9. Anyone manage to get one of these before they all sold out?
10.
I went the bitsa route. Started off with a Squier Jazz neck I liked, found a cheap solid body on fleabay (the seller measured the neck pocket for me), and went on from there. How about this as a start? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201713748283
I'm not a fan of the reliced/roadwarn look, otherwise would have stuck in a bid. Does anyone know if the body on the Harley Benson PB-20 (https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbp120bk_ebass.htm) is Fender standard size? Looks like it would be a reasonable thing to play whilst in the process of upgrading. Though I've also found a Westfield that looks sweet... in metallic CAR which looks nicer than I imagined it might.
11.
This is how my bitsa turned out.
That is very very nice. Thanks for all the suggestions - gathering ideas together and will soon have a plan...
12. Don't know whether anyone might be interested but the above mentioned pedal is due to come up on Amazon's Black Friday sale some time soon. Supposedly 6:59am on the 15th, Early Access for Prime people, and then presumably a bit later for everybody else. Link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004J27QXY
13. I have no need for one but would like to try a P bass - only ever owned a cheap Westfield B100 that had a rather problematic neck. Apart from that it was quite fun. I'd kind of like to make a project of it but want to start with something cheap that I can muck around with and upgrade using standard parts - i.e. I'd like to buy something that I could replace the neck on with a fretless neck at some point, so it would need to fit a Mighty Mite neck, or Warmoth or similar Fender standard. Same for scratchplate, pickup and bridge. Over time I'm OK with spending a bit on parts to make something I like, but want to start small. So, the question - which cheap (under £150, preferably even £100) P bass would make a good starting point? Would another Westfield B1000 be worth tracking down? J&D, Thomann, Gear4Music? Are the bodies on those "Build it yourself" kits any good, and standard sizes...? All advice welcome!
14. Bassassin - wow, thanks for the quick response, that's absolutely got to be it (or least the brand/style of, etc. ). Funnily enough, prefer the look of the one you found. If you're interested I'll PM you the link if you fancy picking this one up.
15. I did toy with the idea of trying a Fame Baphomet but at the time couldn't find one that I liked the look of - only supplier I looked at was MusicStore.de, though a quick search shows that DV247 appear to do them too.
16.

Marcus Miller Sire v7 5 string bass
BC Rich 5 String W.M.D. Widow Active Neck Through Bass
BC Rich 5 String Zombie Exotic Neck Through Switchable Active Bass
Fame Baphomet Gothic 5-string Active Bass Buitar with Gig Bag Soft Case
Would be quite interested in the Buitar [sic] but the other three are... meh, at least for me.
17. Headless bass, apparently has a maple body. Hardware is all unidentified - not ABM or Hipshot - but the bridge seems to match a few pictures of the sort of stuff you can get of eBay for about £10... Despite the centre strip I don't think it's a neck through as you can see on the second photo that the neck appears to mbe maple... could be wrong though Thinking it's probably a one off custom job, but any info would be appreciated. Could buy it for £150 - about the right price? Sorry pictures are so small, I did find another of similar size from a different source, but could just be the same bass... 18. A secondhand Status Streamline 5-string less than a month after buying a brand new MTD Kingston Z5. If I'd known the Streamline was on the horizon I wouldn't have bought the MTD. But my wife encouraged the purchase of the Streamline and financially the hit from selling the MTD was doable, so all good, but it feels like a once in a lifetime opportunity that I was able to seize and... yeah, the Status hits all the right spots
19. Glad you're enjoying it You won't regret saving up and buying another one - two of them working together sounds even better (and makes a rather funky looking mini stack). I got my two NY121s nearly a year ago and they've cured me of searching for the next best thing (i.e. cab GAS).
20. So, on thinking for a few more seconds - you might be better off with the Traveler 121 Ninja - http://markbass.it/product_detail.php?id=256 - which has 800W handling.
21. Best place to start: http://markbass.it/p...etail.php?id=97 I have a GK MB500 running into two NY121s and the sound is pretty big and I've never found it lacking. The cabs are pretty compact and you can easily carry a pair in two hands with bass slung over your shoulder. Two will fit comfortably into the boot of my Peugeot 308 with room to spare for bass and bag 'o' bits. Only thing I'm not so keen on is the tweeter - but you can turn that right down anyway as there is a control on the side, have found them to be a bit hissy with the tweeter turned up -YMMV. They are equipped with two Speakon jacks so look like they'll be easy with the Orange, based on internet pics. Hmm, edit again: a search suggests that the Terror 500 puts out full wattage into both 4 and 8 ohm loads: https://forum.orange...php?f=3&t=54055 so one cab will probably be OK but, go easy on the volume. You'd be better off with two cabs (nice stack) and not have to worry, or find a cab that'll take the full 500 watts at 8 ohms.
22. Zoom B1.on will do the job as it has an aux-in for the MP3 player and you can plu headphones into the usual output (1/4" jack). It has effects, a drum machine, looper and tuner. I use mine with a pair of Presonus HD7 headphones which are large over the ear headphones with 50mm drivers and it's plenty loud enough. And on preview, beaten to it by Marvin
23. Can anyone tell me what the internal dimensions of a Kinsman hardfoam (HFB6) case? I would like to get one for my MTD Kingston bass which is 35" scale length, total length 121cm. Can't try one of these out anywhere local and can only find external dimensions online and those vary between sites... Also, for addition points - are they any good? It's really just for storing a bass under the sof as we're soon getting a dog (yeah, madness...) and basses on stands are a bit of a risk... And final question, the bonus round, case might be used to ship bass if I ever get round to selling it, would it hold up to going with a courier without extra protection (cardboard, bubble wrap, etc.)? Thank you!

Currently one on eBay, just appeared today: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Status-Graphite-5-String-Headless-Electric-Bass-/191961441612?hash=item2cb1cb254c:g:PQgAAOSwFe5Xyu4H Price... maybe a touch high for a starting bid IMO as it looks like a stock Stealth. Have recently, a month ago, bought a secondhand Streamline 5 and playing this weekend was the first time I felt like I connected with it and got a sound I like - and it was awesome. Also took me a while to get it sorted strap wise but now I've got that worked out this bass is probably the best I've had to date. So, maybe don't discount the Streamline quite yet. If you live down south, anywhere near Somerset you're welcome to come try it out (actually, you're welcome to come and try it out wherever you are in the ountry )
25. Posted in this thread 18 months ago and had fours basses. Posting today, still have four basses but not the same four... Current batch: Status Graphite Streamline (5-string) MTD Kingston Artist (5-string) MTD KZ5 (5-string) Hohner B2ADB (4-string, but not modified, got it in a trade + cash for my NS Design Radius WAV4) If I were to guess, in another 18 months the only one that will be around is the Status. The MTDs need to be sold and the Hohner might stick around to noodle on at home unless I decide to totally give up on 4-strings.
