1.
Excuse the screw ups but the bass is really (probably) too high up compared to the track so nice and easy to hear.
Nicely played, sounded great to me. Sweet bass too.
 2.
I love my MIJ Geddy Lee, apparently the neck on these US versions are quite a lot chunkier than the Jap/Mex signature models - anyone got any thoughts or feedback on this? I reckon I shall be looking to order one when my Sandberg sells.
From what I've read and heard the neck on the US is thicker than the MIJ and thinner than the standard US. I like 'flat C' thin necks so was all prepared to dislike this on that basis but I've no complaint - it's really playable and very solid feeling. Differences swapping from my Dingwall to the Geddy are very noticeable but that's as much in the radius as the thickness as the Z3 feels much flatter.
 3.
Will have a look at those, Barefaced I was looking at. Specifically the Retro 2X10 but I fear a 2X10 won't have enough oomph for what my band play however.
I'm in a pretty loud band - rock, metal & punk and I'm using a SuperTwin with a 500W head and it's a great cab. If I had boot space I'd have gone for the BigTwin. Just seen your post about budget and the St is ~£800, BT ~£1k.
 4.
while it was away I took delivery of a Musicman Sterling USA and the poor beast's not had a look in since! (maybe I've been a bit lazy with it too...)
Stunningly good basses for the price, loved mine.
 5. Really useful comparison, thanks! Only other bass I've had that played as easily as my Geddy is a MM Sterling, so good I'll get hold of another one when the wife's not looking.
 6.
Tempting! But hefty old price tag, is it really worth it? EDIT ah, Thomann is better, but with Fender QC is buying blind wise? Can't believe I am seriously considering one of these! But the demos are great and the neck sounds fantastic!
Can only speak for mine and the quality is spot on - there's nothing about it that I'd change - well, maybe a drop tuner on the E, will look into that! I'm not sure I'd pay this much blind though the thomann price is very keen!
 7. I've two separate rigs (3 if you count the speakers I leave at our practice space)... a small Ampeg Micro CL Stack for home use. For practice/gig I've separate cabs and head. Depending on budget I'd go for a lightweight head 300W+ (I use a Markbass BigBang) and then size cab(s) to your taste. I use a pair of Markbass 112H and 115P for practrce and gig with a Barefaced SuperTwin. Same amp head with both rigs.
 8.
Ric sold! I shall be ordering one of these bad boys next week!
Woo! You'll love it
 9. My main basses have Mono straps on them. One each as my Dingwall has strap locks on it. That has a short mono on it's longgest position, my Fender jazz has a long Mono on it's shortest setting. Next time I buy a strap it'll be a Mono medium...
 10. Great gig last night @ Mash Guru in Macclesfield. Decent crowd in for a Thursday and people had fun, lots of compliments. First set wasn't a patch on the second though - might have been our energy levels or soberness of the punters. Invited back for a Saturday in the near future.
 11. Sounds like a full-on win Wylie! Gigged it for the first time last night and really enjoyed playing it. Got a few compliments on how it looked - more so than the Dingwall ever gets - maybe the fan frets freak people out.
 12.
The port location doesn't matter. The boom frequencies tend to be centered in the 100-160Hz range, port output tends to be centered around 50-60Hz. From the standpoint of boundary loading off the wall that requires the source be less than 1/4 wavelength distant. 1/4 wavelength at 60Hz is 4.7 feet. Wnen it's exactly 1/4 wavelength theres a cancellation notch. For instance, having the cab front 2.3 feet from the rear wall would notch the response around 120Hz, while below that would be unaffected, be it front or rear ported.
Thanks Bill - interesting info. Will be interesting tonight, small stage cab hard up against the back wall... Will see if the new barefaced cab works better than the old Markbass cabs I've used there previously!
 13. I run my amp with everything flat bar the bass - I cut 4-8db centred @ 40Hz (i.e. turn the bass knob down a bit!). Really helps clarity.
 14.
The same applies to the distance to the wall behind the cab. Placing the front of the cab more than 2 feet from the wall will not only reduce boundary reinforcement off the wall, it will cause a response dip.
Is this a useful rule for front-ported cabs as well or more so for rear-ports?
 15. Tried to put a set of DR Neons on my Dingwall to find out the B is about 3/4" short - the taper starts short of the nut so the string sits too low. Put the remaining 4 on my old washburn and they're pretty lifeless. No zing. The bass gets very little play so they may be a good fit - when I do pick it up we'll see if they deteriorate over time.
 16.
I think it's kind of funny they call it a signature bass when it's missing the BadAss bridge that Geddy has on his.
Original no longer in production so (apparently) Geddy worked with them to design this one. It's pretty solid compared to the standard. While I'm fairly geeky I'm not so bad that something like this would bother me. I suspect his 'original' doesn't have a pearloid scratch pate either.
 17. My Dingwall is vol and pick-up selector. My old Washburn is vol/pan. Both active. My Jazz is passive VVT. For ease I can see the live benefits of VPT and I'm more used to it but we'll see how I get on with it if it's gigged.
 18.
How does it compare to the Japanese version? I'm tempted by this bass now!
haven't played the MIJ one but the price difference is significant. The MIJ doesn't look as good either to me - the black inlays and binding overpower the maple to my eyes. Still supposed to be a great player though.
 19.
How would you say it sounds against a standard jazz bass, if you've played one? Just interested as to how the Geddy can justify the extra....I am tempted!
I've not played a standard US jazz so can't compare them and tonal differences would be down to preference anyway. I'm not sure if 'justifies' the extra - there are certainly some touches that explain some of the cost, some cosmetic some material if not all. Question is to gig it this week which means taking the Dingwall as well (oh, the hardship) as one song needs the low C... I tried detuning the Jazz but it's just too much for the 105 E to handle.
 20.
Looks fab - how's the tone re Geddy's? I love the growl he gets....that whole Tom Sawyer thing which for years, like many others, thought was a Ric!
It's great out of the box with no FX - just rolling the neck vol off a fraction really brings out the Geddy in it. Shame my playing's not that good! Going to have a fiddle with my SansAmp and see how close we can get to that tone though!
