1. I'd put it in the for sale section, it might sell there. Good luck with it.
 2. Also, you can bridge the Thames Estuary with the nut on a Stingray.
 3.
And is the popular opinion that the P-Bass is a slow neck? It feels quicker than my old Rickenbacker from memory.
There is no such thing as a slow neck, only slow people.
 4.
...Where is BigRedX, anyway?
Working all hours and saving up.
 5.
I certainly don't wish to fall out with anyone over this
I god, I don't want to fall out with you! I'm just trying the get the point across that the current situation is crap, the government know this and want to help small venues. The petition you have signed is simply telling the government to go ahead with the DCMS recommendations. Cheers man.
 6.
Because someone can afford to buy it doesnt make them an idiot - In the same way as not being able to afford to buy one makes you a f++kin genius...... Am I an idiot because I can afford to, and am going to spec and buy a 5 string Private Stock PRS that will be a complete 1 off.......? Am I an idiot because I can afford to and WILL go to the factory to pick it up as part of a holiday.....? Please tell me I am then that will make me feel much better. Why do you find it necassary to judge people and then brand them.....? Please stop it.
Because I got turned down for a job at Netto.
 7. The fact is, if a venue is putting on a gig without having an entertainment licence, that's their insurance f***ed. Imagine your kid went to the gig and something horrible happened, like a fire, and people couldn't get out because the sh*tty little venue didn't want to spend a bit extra on security so they chained up the rear fire exit. Your kid gets horribly burned along with a bunch of other punters and she gets no compensation for pain and suffering and potential loss of earnings for her now knackered modeling career. That's what the licensing act is there for, some control and enhanced public safety. The government have realised small venues are getting mired with bureaucracy and that this is making the situation worse, not better as intended. Hence these proposals to exempt small venues from the requirements of the act. No-one is out to criminalise anyone. It is not a "hatchet job", it is an eminently sensible approach as far a I can see. From what you have said above, I still think you don't understand what the government is proposing.
 8.
Edit to remove a post that I meant to go in another thread entirely - damnably fiendish tabbed browsing makes me look like a a###hat once again On another note - thats the nicest jazz I've seen for a very long time Nige
Thank you mate. Let's hope someone with £800 thinks so too
 9. I'm thinking I could do with another lesson from Jake, but I'm confused as to what, there are so many things in my playing to deal with and I only really play pop music TBH, I would pay Jake his fee just to talk for two hours! I learned so much in the short time we spent together.
 10.
Shame about the refinish.
See, this is the problem right, there is a lot of bullshit talked about old Fenders. If it plays like Andy says it does, it's worth the money, or thereabouts, to a real bass player, refin or not. For £2000 you can get yourself an early '70s three bolt with more problems than your local alky. Massive hand routed neck sockets for instance, because they pressed the neck adjuster disk badly. baseball bat necks, crap fretscales. I'm thinking this might be the business, but the refin crowd will shout it down to two-five. Who knows?
 11.
If it calls out to me I could justify 5K on a bass...but it needs to be 'the one'.
What if it's "the one" in April and not by October? You'll have lost three grand at least when you sell it.
 12.
Also warwicks don't really have "fast" necks...
You're kidding, right? You really have to be kidding. With a pick, I can shred like Yngvie on my 'vette.
 13. Mrs silddx asked if you brought it out at a children's party, could you, with a few twists, turn it into a daschund
 14.
Its too much for a Bass,,, But check out how much some folk spend on extras on cars,,, friggin thousands for sports packs, upgrades etc,,, must be 100 top end cars in this village alone,,and to boot,,, gigging over xmas with the snow,, its was all the expensive cars which seemed to get stuck... I guess some people just have cash to blow on what they are into..,, this would cater for that crowd...
Precisely. Another bass for an idiot from Staines with a management position at Netto.
 15. What's his commission rate Pete, might try this myself! Glad that worked so well for you! Things are dire in the BS FS section at the moment aren't they. Also, did it sell for your agreed price and have you got your money yet?
 16. To quote someone else, it breaks less ground than a plasticene sledgehammer. Why would you want to be seen traveling with a vile looking thing like that, which has a non-adjustable bridge, loads of string noise, very fiddly tuners, very little low end sound and not even really suitable for stage use! All it means is you are traveling with an extra "bass" that you can't use live. And they say it's aimed at the touring musician and woodshedders??! £579 too! The only tiny advantage and its USP is that it's a little bit acoustic. Would you want to be a shareholder? Travel with a Steinberger or a Hohner headless for heaven's sake. Basses which are designed properly, are even smaller and have a great sound for recording or on stage. You'd need to be a village idiot to buy this thing. And BGM give it four out of five stars for Value For Money!! Astonishing.
 17. I've just read the Gus G3 review in this month's Bass Guitar Magazine. I simply can not understand that its aesthetics and the minor advances in ergonomics, build quality, and tonal quality and variety is worth spending about THREE AND A HALF THOUSAND QUID extra than your average high end Warwick or some such. I understand how much it costs to build it, but that does not justify its "core worth" as a bass. If you have money to burn, no problem, I still think you would be totally wasting it on something providing so little extra benefit, and with two chrome saveloys attached to it. I'm sure it's fabulous, but it is certainly not £4,000 more fabulous than my Corvette $$. How is it possible to justify that spend on a new bass? And how in the name of Enid Blyton can BGM give it four out of five stars for Value For Money? Bloody ridiculous.
 18.
hey everbody, i need some financial estimates for touring in europe. this autumn we might play a total of 20 gigs ranging from portugal to scandinavia in 30 days. it's going to be our first tour ever and i'm seeing us running into serious financial problems if we don't calculate this through. therefore i could use some advice. we have a promoter who gets his share and we're completeley on our own, only touring with another band and not in the same vehicle. so we'll have to organize transportation, accomodation and all the relevant things to survive by ourselves. i guess we'll be playing clubs from 50-150 people and most clubs only pay door deal. i can't think of a way how to calculate the required budget. does anybody have some advice please? your comments don't need to be based on the notion of touring europe per se but anywhere in the world. just looking for a cost estimate and what to take into account. thanks!
Once you've done the planning, it's fairly simple to get the costs. But getting your revenue estimates in the right ballpark is critical so do some serious research and talk to venues and promoters about your likely net revenue from the gigs. You'll probably be selling CDs and other merchandise so factor in your costs/revenues for those too. Once you have an idea of your budget plan, keep fine tuning it and ask for opinions of others in case they know of alternatives or point out things you've forgotten. You'll need to build in some contingency too, I would guess about 10 or 15%. It will teach you loads, and probably be quite good fun! EDIT: And for christ's sake make sure you get suitable travel insurance.
 19.
I've played it a few times... The back of the neck is amazing. The most beautiful flame ever. Weighs nothing, and just has fat tone. Really fat. Give the tone knob a twist and great zing. The Yardstick for all Jazz Basses.
I hope it goes to the right home.
 20.
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=407994
Hah Hah! Brilliant switch, man
 21.
I know we should always proceed with caution when mentioning politics on a forum but this has cropped up on a few sites & I feel this may be of interest to a lot of Basschatters. I would urge you to take a look at this petition though IF YOU PLAY ANY INSTRUMENT LIVE in pubs / clubs. Basically anyone in a band playing in licensed premises is helpng the owner to break the law unless that owner has a licence. Potentially this could criminalise artists who are simply just playing. I play a wide catchment area in largely well established venues but even so. Anyhow here is the link http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/livemusicevents/ I would hope the law would be Policed by Trading Standards with a degree of common sense. However the amendment to the act looks like a bit of a hatchet job from what I can see and potentially could harm live music. Take a look. Not trying to scaremonger but potentially this could really affect a few of us.
Dude, without wanting to be rude, chill out a bit and don't make this into something it isn't and start scaring people unnecessarily. You have all this completely the wrong way around. It's situation normal at the moment. The government is trying to improve the situation. Why are you hinting at the potential for criminalising artists and waving your arms about? It's nonsense mate. Even your thread title is inflammatory. You haven't read the proposal have you. If you want to make an informed decision, rather than a blind emotional one, here are the consultation documents and the impact assessment. http://www.culture.gov.uk/reference_librar...tions/6499.aspx Seems the petitioner is putting a bit of spin into his argument too, and obfuscating the issue by not supplying links to relevant documentation. I think he is trying to make a bit of a name for himself as the people's hero. The government, well the DCMS, is actually recommending venues with audiences under 100 people become exempt from certain requirements of the Licensing Act so they don't have the current problems with licence applications anymore. This petition is adding fuel to the argument for such, simple as that. Too many petitions I see are full of rhetoric and Daily Mail-style sh*t. Remember that stupid petition about venue dB(A) levels? A complete misinterpretation of the Noise at Work Regs. EDIT: Sorry Burrito, I was a bit full on there, I know you posted with sincere intentions. It's just that some of these petitions are worded in such a way that people misinterpret them and don't research the subject properly. Sorry mate, no offence intended.
 22. I can't believe it's condition, incredible!
 23.
haha that is indeed very pretty, but it's all about the sound at the end of the day!
Ahh, but it sounds glorious, but ergonomically, it's still just a Jazz Bass. Anyway, you know my thoughts on "core tone"
 24.
Wish I could get along Si
Never mind mate, there will be others, but probably not both bands on the same night. Cheers.
