  1. I've just watched a chap demo this vs the HX effects. I didn't watch the HX effects section, I just remained pretty disappointed that he set up a very simple gain pedal, amp, one cab, EQ and noisegate, and he's almost out of space for anything else.

The other disappointment was that the stock amp setups were atrocious on this demo. I swear the Boss Katana sounded better off the bat for £250 for the whole amp.

As much as this unit is a good move, I am still not sure if I really want to get into modelling again....

  2. I've seen a few demos of this now and they seem to have rushed the demo stage....a lot of the demos seem to be clean guitar amp/Klon overdrive/tubescreamer (non bass) and sound a bit lifeless and boring.

Thing is, once you choose an amp, then maybe you want a different cab, light drive, heavy drive, that is 4 blocks gone already.....

I'm not convinced by the screen yet - I need to see one in person. It looks fiddly and annoying.  At first I thought this was a bargain, but then it is massively stripped down and has half the horsepower. A good way for Line 6 / Yamaha to pick up sales at the smaller/cheaper end of the market with the same models and effects.

I really do want something like this, but the G3 and B3 cost me just over £100 each and are still decent units. £460 is a decent amount....I think at £380 this thing would seem like a good deal.

  3. I've been let down by the store so I'm getting a refund for now. I'll see what the prices are like over the next 6 months.

To be honest it's a great idea but at the moment I haven't got time to learn to use it.

Dragged myself out of my sick bed and took some better photo’s. At the moment I’m really liking position 4 on the selector.

    That colour is the bomb.

Actually, @Woodinblack, ignore my nonsense re: split points using up a block. I think you’re right in that you’ll be able to use 6 Effects blocks regardless of splits! Check out this screenshot of the Andertons demo vid:

Clearly using 6 effect blocks in addition to the split/merge points.

Also, bear in mind that there is an “invisible” adjustable noise gate at the start of the chain and a global EQ at the end of the chain, neither of which take up a block.

Noise gate and EQ for free? Decent.

  6. Well, I sold the original floor Helix I owned because it was simply too large, and too expensive for my needs. I wasn't going to use a lot of it.

Then I considered the HX effects. But, I held back.

I have a boatload of effects pedals for guitar and bass, and I'm constantly changing what fuzz I use....and I also have a Boss ES-8 so I can use the midi side.

For me, this is the perfect little box for guitar and bass. I don't have hugely complex signal chains....I just like having choice as to different sounds....

So, after sending back an expensive Gibson guitar, this is a relatively cheap addition to my gear. I've pre-ordered one....it ticks all the boxes!

Basically, a high end version of the Zoom B3/G3 all in one box, with extra features and constant updates.

  7. I think Orange had issues with the amps blowing and returns.

The solid amps carried on working.

If they have basically bombproofed the amp then it will sell very well. The clean switch was a great idea, as was super light 1x12s for £399.

It would be nice to see more Darkglass demos using different genre's and more traditional type basses.... All I mainly hear is dingwals and metallic sounding metal tunes. I'm sure all his pedals could sound good in other formats.

I liked the b3k on lower settings and would be interested to hear what more med type drive this could do

I agree. That grindy tone is alright but to be honest it just sounds like a detuned guitar. I think it's the current wave of metal though...

The problem is, eventually it just all sound like one thing blended together in a buzz saw noise of grind. Converge do it much better; the guitar is still clear and the bass is a P bass with that classic tube pushed sound, nothing more.
