  1. But would we agree that there is a difference in "feel" between a "played in" instrument and one that's brand new? I think that's what the Yamaha vibration treatment is seeking to achieve. I think three of us on BC have separately owned a Yamaha P35 which has been through such a treatment and all of us felt that it was a fantastic bass in terms of sound and feel (sadly that particular one was a touch on the heavy side, which is why we all ended up moving it on). And let's face it some basses "sing" in a way many others can't touch. Neck through, top notch electronics, fantastic craftsmanship all play their part in making that sound available to the bass player and, yes, a KS does bring all of that to party. Superbly.
  2. How are you liking it? @mcnach is your 4 string still going strong?
  3. Gunmetal grey can look really good on a car IMO. Isn't that another name for pewter? But maybe it's more geared to cold metal rather than the 'warmth' of wood? Totally agree that if you're paying top dollar for a bass you want to be able to get it in the finish you really like and think "wow" whenever you see it. Saw a perfectly spec'd Spector NS5 the other day at BD in tobacco burst ...*sigh* / massive relief on wallet (delete as applicable).
  4. Have to admit I'm with you on that one, white or black do look stunning on that model. But clearly pewter has its fans too, evidenced by @marleaux62specifically wanting that colour. I saw a really lovely Shuker for sale recently, but couldn't get passed the orange-brown Essex tan, but which clearly must have appealed to the owner at one point!
  5. So you have one?! Pics please! This one was traded Yamaha BBNE2 Nathan East Limited Edition - TRADED! - Basses For Sale - Basschat So that leaves 47 to track down
  6. Yeah, I'm biased but I think the NE2 is a really attractive design!
  7. Just take the low B string off. It's only there as a thumb rest after all...😁
  8. How about a Pewter NE2 to add to your collection? Limited edition, I believe.
  9. And a rather tasty PHy Red thing. And then there's also that elegant black one with the neck through...yeah good shout Andy.
  10. It's an excellent filter no question. Do you prefer it to the 3 Leaf kit? I'd take both my GR2 and Proton Mk4 over the Fwonkbeta, as very good as that is.
  11. Indeed! Alternatively they could leave a little note in the gig bag with a helpful suggestion that we each spend several hours randomly trawling the internet in the vague hope that something coherent and knowledgeable (like we've had on this thread and also just very recently on the Spector thread from Billy and Paul comparing the Euro LX to the NS2, 4 and 5) randomly turns up! 😄 But even a useful summary card probably wouldn't say "think about dialling back your TonePump, 'cos we couldn't be bothered to do that bit"...and unless someone mentions it, a lot of folk (me included) probably wouldn't be thinking of asking the right questions, but assuming that's just what the TonePump was like - and therefore to never dial our bass EQ on Spector Euro LX basses above 1/10, lol! I guess that's the beauty of the knowledge sharing that we have on forums such as BC and TB. Here’s a raised glass to you all 🍸
  12. Sorry my last comment won't have helped either...😄
  13. And the daft thing is it will cost you half the RRP of an Attitude and you'll be able to get it with your choice of woods, pups, John East preamp, neck profile and vintage white finish...
  14. I see a Shuker or an ACG with a bespoke neck pup appearing, dimly lit, in your future 😁
  15. This thread from the basic comments about absolutely needing to dial back the TonePump to release its true potential (when the reasonable assumption would be that the manufacturer's default setting should be a very decent one. It's not!) to more detailed insights such as those above, IMO make this a "must read" for all newer Spector Euro owners like myself. Has played a big part in transforming my view of my Euro 5LX from being "really good" to "truly outstanding"!
  16. And obviously very personal, but I preferred the NE2 a lot, to the Attitude. Although the RRP on the NE2 has also gone up to over £4k! I think that may be down to historical exchange rates, though, and when particular items were shipped to the UK. £ is now up to $1.40 now from lows of around $1.15 a couple of years back and misplaced fears about it falling to parity with the € and even 1:1 with the $. I'd hope the costs of imported basses will begin to reflect the higher £ buying power we now have.
  17. @bagsieblue - super useful, thank you!
  18. But any ideas on what Hz frequency ranges the Bass and Treble controls are boosting on the TonePump? That's the bit that has me stumped!
  19. Wow Attitudes are selling for £4k new these days?!
  20. Hi Matbard - sorry to hear about this. I suspect you maybe quick off the mark in terms of getting round to a first string change although I think @hookys6stringbass mentioned he had changed the strings on his PH too and maybe able to assist.
  21. Haha - fixated only in the sense of saying that using a DAW to demonstrate EQ curves was a relatively sophisticated thing to be doing for an average muso. That really was the only point I was making and I think we can safely agree on that - or not, it doesn't matter too much either way in the scheme of things, does it? - Lol. Look forward to what next week may bring...😄
  22. Trouble is my previous "round the houses" was getting a used Legend Custom to dip my toe into the Spector water. Liked it a lot and gave me the confidence to trade up to my current 5LX, which has gone from "very good" to "outstanding" in my books, as I've got to know it better and am now feeling at ease with the 35" scale. It's really making me ask myself why I'm still holding onto a couple of my other basses! I guess the one GAS "protection" is that the NS5-XL at BD is not in my preferred finish - flamed maple or vintage white would be awesome. And at that price point you kinda feel allowed your choice of finish, right? 😊
  23. @Paulhauser - thank you, soooo much better than anything on Google!
  24. I'm increasingly blown away by just how good my Euro 5LX is...and further to Eldon's post earlier saw that NS5-XL at BD I posted - it's on for an eye watering £5.5k. But I'm struggling to think that the US version is going to be significantly better?
  25. Now that would be an excellent thread de-rail! 😁
