1. Surely a EUB would be the best way to dip your toe into the upright game.... then.... if you're loving it.... you can take your time to find a great big sounding "Bull Fiddle" Buying a cheap acoustic bass is a big gamble, spending around £500 on a EUB isn't really ! Mark (talking himself into a EUB at this rate)
2. I'd say a USA Highway 2nd hand would represent good Value for money if you can get your hands on one. a MIJ 75 reissue is likely to represent a damn fine purchase too..... Good Luck Mark

ShaunB feedback

5. Hi Guys, Many Years ago I bought a lovely original Burgandy Mist Precision, then ruined it by putting in a set of P/J EMG's and bad ass bridge.... The Bridge Cover didn't fit over the Bad ass so I put the bridge and the Cover into a shoe box in the cupboard upstairs.... I eventually sold the bass with the Bad Ass in place and forgot all about the "spare bits" Wind forward 6-7 years and i'm tidying up said cupboard and guess what ? So I'm now selling a genuine Fender Precision Bass Bridge & Original Cover from 1978 - both in great condition ! £50 the pair posted in Uk - I'll get some pics up tomorrow Mark
6. very impressive instrument..... would love to hear this fellow ! Think of it this way, it's gone for a few quid more than a new squire fretless !! I thought that Stingray with the Status Neck @ £500 was the BassChat / World bargain of the year but this is up there !! Mark
7. what about the Dean EUB ? got good reviews and seems a real bargain, i'm considering one myself if you fancy spending a bit more the NS EUB's look a good buy too Mark
8. Isn't there loads of Leftie Wals in circulation ? looks great ! Good luck with the sale Mark
9. Hi Guys, Ebay Listing http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:L:LCA:GB:1123 I've used this to connect my iTunes Library and Bass into my Hifi for studio stuff and home practice. It has blend controls for bass & input chanels and also Bass & Treble controls, with a decent set of cans offers unrivaled fidelity for private practice. Has a lovely compressed output so you can play it loud through a normal hifi and not blow the speakers to bits ! Purchased 2nd hand from USA ebay 2 years ago, l believe these retailed at stupid money when new and when available..... I paid £180 (plus shipping and import) for it and had to buy a 110v to 240v converter seperate..... (included in the sale) The Only way to hear a Fodera Bass through headphones or a great way to add a touch of the fodera tone to any bass..... Price is a firm £160 incl shipping in UK Please PM me for details..... i'll get a photo up later..... Cheers Mark
10.
+1 to all that. He just needs to take his foot off the gas sometimes and let the songs breathe a bit.
Yeah i'd agree with that mind ! he does let rip live, but the last 3 studio albums have been very restrained really bass wise.... His bass part on Alanis Morisettes's "You Oughta now" was a great one take improv line, he was called in to do that job because the original bass part sucked ! He's also a pretty good horn player too, who loves the jazz greats ! One trick pony eh !
11.
I always kid myself that my latest purchase is my last but I know that I'm just lying to myself. There is always another bass/amp/gadget that makes me belive that only that item can fulfill me. How come I was as happy with my first bass(a marlin sidewinder in red sparkle!)as I am with my current one(Warwick $$)?
Yep.... sounds like a junkie mentality to me.... "I'm quitting after this last hit" "need more and more drugs to get high" Ron Wickersham John Diggins Roger Sadowsky Dan Lakin Stuart Spector Rob Green Chris May They're all pushers !! Ofcourse they're not they're all great guys but you know what I mean.......
12. One Trick Pony ? ha ha Flea is one of the best improv bassists out there..... he slaps like a bitch..... fast finger style licks are awesome.... how about a chordal melodic stuff.... yep got that nailed !! Anyone who knows anything about their history will know there has been a lot of tension over the years in that band, but it's sometimes their creative spark.... They get really P*ssed when there's the slightest issue with stage sound, and have a history of hating festival gigs cos their sound check precedure is (usually) compromised to some degree. Saw them at Glasgow on Thursday...... awesome ! I asume they got to sound check properly !! Bloody Prima donnas - LOL !!
13. I sometimes worry that some of the behaviour i've exhibited towards owning instruments is bordering on addiction, some of the comments and opinions i've read in this thread comforts me that i'm not alone in that....... but also worries me that it may "normalise" my insanity !! I've just read "Scar Tissue" which is Anthony Keildis's (RHCP Singer) Autobiography, a lot of the content relates to his crazed drug addictions and his overwhelming compulsions to get high, to get that next fix..... I've never done drugs of any sort (apart from the odd bottle of bud) but I could really identify with some of his feelings ! Don't get me wrong..... i've never been "under the (Tyne) bridge" with an Alembic looking pale and amaciated ! I've never spent more than I can afford to spend, and i've not really lost much on any instrument i've bought and sold. I just can't think it's a particularly healthy thing to put the persuit of instruments before playing music.

15. ......... As my wife points out......... "You can only lay one at a time" Difficult to argue with I guess ...... waits for someone to post something from Youtube showing some spotty 15 year old playing 2 basses !!
16. Hi Guys, I've been doing a lot of thinking and reflecting of late and i've been forced to conclude that over the last 5 years the buying (and selling) of instruments has taken priority over the music, i've not progressed much as a player in this time but i've owned lots of nice basses..... ! So what's my hobby ? Playing Bass or Collecting pieces of wood (sometimes graphite) ? as of today....... Basses are (to me) what they essentially are : "Instruments"...... to make music with how do others feel about this ? Am I the only one who's been affected in this way ? I feel like saying "I'm Mark and i'm a Bassoholic" I need to get clean !! Mark Full Edit Quick Edit « Next Oldest · Introductions · Next Newest »
17.
One of the things I like about Basschat (and it's predecessors) is that I think people watch out for each other to make sure no one get's taken advantage of. That's a good thing, however, we have to be careful that we don't turn that attitude into a witch hunt. There's a classic example of another bass forum (which will remain nameless) which basically started the same way, then turned into a posse attacking people left, right and centre, often unfairly and with very little basis for the attacks. The intention was good, the "posse" thought they were protecting the members of the forum, but they became a police force unto themselves, and I think tended to alienate a lot of newbies in the process. This is a good forum, guys, and it's good that people watch each other's backs. I'd just hate to see it get to the point where it got a reputation as an unfriendly forum because people took the policing attitude a little too far.
I agree looking after children, the sick, the old and infirm is noble...... does anyone really need help in the way alluded to ? OK so many a time i've paid £50 more for something than I could have done if i'd shopped around perhaps ! or I bought something on impulse without doing my homework. I got over it...... infact I wasn't bothered in the first place, I was happy with my purchase and my price. I wouldn't have thanked anyone for making me feel stupid and pointing out that I paid more than I needed. I don't think what rears it's head on here is anything to do with "looking after" anyone else.... it's motivated by trying to spoil a deal for somebody, or put a spanner in the works. There's a sort of... "well I didn't get top $ for the last thing I sold so why the hell should this guy..... let's Piss on his chips" Again....... I think it's motivated by envy in many cases......... Let me say for the record, i've never had a sale "spoiled" on here so have no personal axe to grind on this issue, but I see it happening on threads and think it's wrong, this fodera sale is one of the prime (possibly worst) examples recently....... Nothing is solved by committee, and an (initially) well intended "mob mentality" has caused many a problem in history
18. # 1 - It's a great instrument and i've spoken to Alex and he's a great Guy ! # 2 - It's "Bass" for christ sakes why do we all get so het up ! Nobody dissed your Girlfriend (Boyfriend) # 3 - This forum gives people the opportunity to offer stuff for sale, nobody has to buy it at the sellers price or any other price. I can ask any price I want for anything ! you can choose to buy or not. I'm sick of reading smart arse comments from interfering busy bodies giving their opinion of somethings "value" or pointing out an online price it's worth what the buyer is prepared to pay for it. # 4 - Why do people feel the need to offer opinions, comments, criticism etc on for sale threads, there are plenty other discussion areas on this great forum far better suited to debating the far end of a fodera.... The above is my opinion only, however what is fact is that most people on here can't afford or maybe justify £4k for a bass but that doesn't stop people wanting one ! it's petty jealousy driving the suspicion and bitching ! I've never seen so many "grown ups" acting like my kids, I bet some of you even hold down responsible jobs, go take a reality check and learn some scales !
19. I usually don't care much for Warwicks.... but that's nice !!! That's 2 Warwick's i've liked in the past month.... what's happening to me ? WarwickHunt will be hitting on me next to join his North East Warwick fan club !!
20. I don't think you get a Gator Hand Case which adds real value to the deal too......
21. Lovely bass..... I don't expect this one to be here in the morning !
22. Bump...... don't hang around guys I get the feeling this auction might not run all the way !! Mark
