  2. No it's just a pre-amp very similar to the old Sadowsky pre-amp before they made that into a DI box too.... !! Marcus

  4. Hi Guys, Top Top Bloke the Beedster !! great friendly genuine guy total bass enthusiast !!! you'll not go wrong buying a bass from chris as he only buys quality instruments !!
  5. Thanks Chris, Much love there from "The Beedster" I'm blushing !!
  6. Congratulations....... you've picked the best instrument to play !!! What's your goal ? if it's just to have fun play a few tunes along to records or even to join a covers band, I'd say it's not cheating at all to get a start by using Tabs. After all it's a resource to learn.... Picking out songs by Ear can be really difficult without a good working knowledge of the fretboard to go along with that great sense of pitch !! OK Boring stuff now but you really really can't ignore scales....... Major, Minor, Pentatonic need to be grasped as they are (usually) the ones of most use. Not only is the knowledhe of these scales really usefull for building basslines and jamming, but they build up your fretboard knowledge and help with ear training. Also they get your hands in shape and build muscle memory and dexterity which you'll need to play some of the more challenging stuff you'll want to have a crack at..... Unless you want to do session / theatre work (IMHO) reading music isn't essential but still very very worthwhile, I wish i'd bothered my ass earlier in life.... the older you get the harder it seems to be to grasp complicated stuff !! Good Luck ! Marcus Good Luck
  7. Not sure if this is what you're asking but the best thing you can do to a Miller Jap is rip out that $5 pre-amp and put in an Aguilar OBP1...... I'm sure the John East Circuit will be a good upgrade from that piece of crap fender put in too.... Cheers Marcus

  10. Hiya..... The Guy in the clip can certainly play...... top marks what he's done with that song is rip it apart to understand the components of the tune and replicated it perfectly on the bass. The looping that makes up the rhythm for the tune is really well done ! I'm sure if the guy were to contribute to the thread he'd agree that witht his sort of technique the total end result is greater than the sum of the parts...... each individual technique used to create the layers of that song in that format isn't all that complex. I believe the real skill in producing such a fine rendition of that number is in disecting the tune and working out how to best approach it. Then nailing it all together.... I certainly for one couldn't do that....... My ambitions as a player don't stretch that far as a "hobbyist" player....... I often feel that my limited understanding of music theory holds back my progress as a musician, but doesn't prevent me enjoying the instrument. And certainly doesn't stop me playing live. I'd guess i'd be able to learn some songs quicker with a better, more rounded musical understanding. But I get there...... and for me that's all that counts. Cheers Marcus
  11. He's right about the custom colour...... most of them were just sunburst then painted over in whatever custom colour was desired !! 2 layers of paint..... no thanks....!! However (IMHO) 66 was a superb year........

  19. Hi Fella !! My Vote for beefy tone is the Nordstrand PJ set-up !! I've got a set that I had in my modified Precision, recently put in a Sadowsky PJ plus Sadowsky pre...... that's great too but if it's meat & potatoes you're after go with the Nordy option you can add an Aguilar OBP3 and that'll give you bone crushing tone !! Stay away from EMG's if you want balls...... they cut through nice but are a little sterile in my opinion..... !! I'm keeping my Nordy's to go in a Vic Wooten Yin Yang Fodera when I find one !! That's Kill !!! Marcus
