1. Thanks guys. Glad you are enjoying it. Still lots mroe to come though! Here's an old one of the live room to give you more of an idea of size:
That's their sequencer flashing along, although it shows up better on video. Helps with the ambience of 80's disco remix sessions. Don't be fooled by what you see...
Haha. Hilarious!
2. You didnt see the 7 foot glass tank over on the right...? ;-)
3. Here are some pictures of the live room from first thing this morning. I tried to capture the width of the room with the first shot (difficult due to the humungous old live room window still sitting in the room!): I tried to get the length of the room in this one: And this one is looking from one side wall to the other with a wide angle lens:
4.
I'm going to Brum New Street then I've got a few mins walk to the place I'm filming (I do video production) but naturally, I have to carry a lot of rather heavy gear with me that makes a simple walk a lot more challenging... I'll check what ticket I've booked when I'm back in the office on Wednesday - with it being Birmingham (ie not London...) there's a good chance I've got an open return and I'll be able to jump on any train home, hence I won't be limited by time... I'd really love to see the place!
Nice one. Let me know if you need picked up. If Im free it wont take me more than a couple of minutes to get to the town centre
5.
I've just spent a good while reading this from the start with a glass of red. Been a great read - can't believe I've not spotted this one earlier! If I ever start playing the lottery, and subsequently win it, I might have a crack at building a studio with a plaque that says I read this thread. I've just realised I'm in Birmingham on Friday, but it's a bit too far to walk to oh well... I'm off to make the pizza I've been fantasizing about for the last half an hour despite being unable to stop reading...
Glad you enjoyed it! If you are gonna be in Brum city centre its no more than about 15 minutes walk!
6. Thanks man. Keep watching though... lots to come yet!
7. I had a regular client froma record label in today. We start a new record next week. Pressure on! In the meantime, after many weeks of waiting, the area of the main live room that was changed finally got re-plastered:
8.
That ceiling really is the biggest diffuser I've ever seen compared to overall room size - equivalent to two or three of the walls being diffusers I'd have thought.. A quite brilliant idea, and in all probability entirely bonkers! Does that room 'feel' even bigger than it actually is?
Feels absolutely massive. Always feels weird when I see pictures because it looks so much smaller than it feels!
9. You can see here that we downed tools on this room. This is to await the plasterer. He is scheduled for tomorrow so I'm hoping to finish the wood flooring over the weekend.
10.
Nice one! Distinct lack of logo in those doors though How much do they weigh then???
Ah yes, sadly the logo idea came after this door was done. We'll explore it when we start working on the next one No idea what they actually weigh but it took two of us (struggling) to lift the thing into place!
11. So I thought someone might be interested in the construction of our doors. First take a 1 hour fire door blank, router out a rebate to perfectly fit a random piece of glass you had ordered in the wrong size for the booth window (ahem...): bond a layer of limp mass membrane to either side of the door then take two sheets of maple laminated mdf and router windows (using a pre-prepared template): and then stick the lot together before fitting it in the custom machined frame:
12. Thanks man. hopefully it should all be worth it. It's for a very high profile charity! In the meantime, we started laying the live room floor:
13.
Awesome Trevor, Would love to record here one day bud. Best get saving my pennies. Cheers Keith
Thanks man! Swing by some time!
14. So some of you may have noticed there haven't actually been many new pictures of late. About 10 days ago a label I do a significant amount of work for told me that had been holding off waiting for me to re-open but the situation had become urgent and they had some stuff that just couldn't wait any longer. In particular they had a charity record that had to be turned around super quick. Queue much scrambling around trying to get the place into a workable situation asap. What followed were some of the most stressful sessions I've had to do in some considerable time (patch bays weren't in so I was hotplugging mic-lines and cables on an ad hoc basis hoping I'd labelled them properly). I'll put up some pics from the session when I get a minute to sort through them. The good news though, is that we got through it and the client is happy. This week though, it's back to the job at hand. Here's a few shots of the desk which is now close to its final resting place. From one side: from the other: and a close up of some of the channels:
15. Yeah we'd certainly have to glue the centre piece. It's the only way I can see. @ BigredX - the glass is 26mm thick. It's probably stronger than the door!
16. The mystery photoshop genius just sent me this: I was thinking more like having the logo the same size as the other windows, and maybe as the middle one of the three.
17. So someone messaged me suggesting that instead of the lower window being a perfect circle I have it routered into the shape of my logo. I LOVE this idea (though my carpenter really will kill me)! thoughts?
18. protools isnt great with hubs. Some work better than others. I think I might have one around that works if you want it?
19. Thanks for all your suggestions guys. Am gonna ponder this one awhile! In the meantime, we've been doing some flooring. Here's the booth: There have been a fair few of the maple flooring boards that are pretty heavily figured either with knots or where they have been sawn close to the bark. Rather than waste them I decided just to put them in the machine room:
20. Am still thinking three holes is the way forward but that kinda design is really very eye catching... It is running late but stuff has been going on. More detail on that when I can...!
21. Someone much cleverer with photoshop than me sent me a suggestion for the control room doors. Wha'd'ya think? (looks pretty damn funky to me... though I suspect my carpenter might finally kill me if I was to suggest it)
22. or you could just hold down the apple button as you move the slider and it moves in far smaller increments... or you could go into the automation view and adjust it with your mouse... or you could use the pencil tool to draw the automation... or... [you get the picture]
23. So we've opened up the cable trays and the painful work has begun: Some cool stuff also started to happen...
24. hmm. Okay guys. Good feedback. Thanks!
