1. Still catching up then... painting began in the smallest technical room in the house: ...and ended (I shoved my assistants in the room to give you some perspective: with perspective (did I mention my assistants are both 2foot 6?): The floor then got put down: almost done: and then got finished:
2. article on page 39 of the London evening standard tonight and Ken Bruce has been playing it on Radio 2! Picking up momentum...!
3. Thanks guys! Appreciate it! Video up on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEvj7-wZMr8&sns=fb
4. Yup. Itb mix. well done to both of you FYI first national radio play today on radio 2's Jeremy Vine show.
5. buck-buck-buck- buckuuuuuuck!
6. ahhh, I think we have a misunderstanding. It isnt a screen to project things onto. It's an infinity wall so that photos can be taken in front of it without seeing corners in the rooms etc.
7.
I would say paint the wall with the screen another colour than white. White will not only show the scuffs but I also find it isnt a good colour for a projector wall. You cant see the borders properly and its to bright. Give it some colour to distinguish it and i think it would be better. But then that is my personal preference.
Interesting. Why would you say it isn't a good colour for a projector wall?
8. from memory: AKG D12 > chandler germ > la2a Anyone else gonna guess ITB or OTB before I reveal all?
9. Shameless plug. I co-wrote, recorded and produced this record here at www.circlestudios.co.uk. Steve Baughman mixed it in LA. All profits on record sales will go to a UK charity for wounded veterans, Help For Heroes. Here's the link to the UK Itunes store. If you are outside the UK you may not be able to purchase until the other stores go live. Either way, if you could tweet it, put it on your facebook page or whatever I'd appreciate it (As a useful aside it might even dent Mr Cowell's chances of a xmas No.1! Here it is: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/im-coming-back-single/id575678217 So, on to the gear, vocals were recorded in my big room with a Telefunken USA Elam 251E into a channel on my API desk with an Avedis E27 in line. Compression came courtesy of my Retro 176. So, in an effort to start a little debate... was it mixed ITB or OTB? abduction
10. Woah! I got a bit behind on photos then. Let's try and get you back up to date! The white room came together pretty quickly. Sonically, it sounds really sweet with a reverb time of about 1.7 seconds. But why is it white? As a bit of a hedge and to keep the place as busy as possible we had a portable infinity wall made in a custom extra wide size. Having fitted it in the white room it only takes a few turns of that handle and the vinyl backcloth rolls down changing the room from a live room/production room into a photography/video studio. Thoughts?
11. haha! True. And you know how the weather's been...
12. oops. OP was 2007. I'll get my jacket...
13.
Just a general enquiry really for those of you who do recording type things- what microphones do you use for different things? Do you have a preferred mics for vocals, instruments or recording amplifiers and whathaveyou? What ones do you favour? Any particular recommendations for good value mics for vocals?
Wow. Huge subject. What mics you choose for what instrument depends completely on what kinda vibe you are after. A dynamic or a ribbon mic can work great on acoustic guitar if that's the vibe you are after for that song.
14. you just need to ensure you follow the install instructions to the letter. PT is generally rock solid once up and running but it can be fussy that you follow the instructions to the letter on install. also, PT often doesnt like to play with USB hubs so if you are using one of those that could be the problem.
15.
Must be close now- just painting, fitting out, cables, air-con, power........ OK plenty still to do then
...Fire alarms, escapes and extinguishers, audio cable and patchbays, flooring, stone room, wooden cladding, treatment, new bathroom, diffusers, wall coverings, doors seals...
16. The last room got plastered: and the white room became, er... white:
17. Once the plastering was done in that room the smallest room in the place got boarded:
18. 13ft I think. In cubic feet terms it's the middle one of the 3 new rooms. All three are slightly different shapes and have different characteristics. One has a ceiling height about 18 inches or so higher than that.
19. This one should give a little perspective on size:
20. As promised. The white room with second electrical fix and plaster! and another Someday soon it might even actually become white!
21. And now with added plasterboard...
22. haha! Having given up on the builder ever re-appearing, it was time to just get on with it. With the help of my assistants, Iain, Joe and Dan, we had soon rockwooled what will be the white room:
23. Mood lighting:
