1. Wow! 4 months on and it feels like a life time. Things have been crazy busy since the party. I've worked on records from an international metal band to a world music act with five albums behind them. In fact, I've been so busy we still haven't even managed to do all the finishing bits and bobs that had to be put on hold when we re-launched. I have a bit more time to myself over the next few months so I'm going to have a big push to get finished. In the meantime, if anyone is interested in an insider's view of the music industry, you can read what Machiavelli might say over here: http://www.supajam.com/blog/l/Machiavellis-Guide-to-the-Music-Industry
2. trash the preferences, empty the trash, start again.
3. Yup. When you work with a decent producer/engineer you generally end up with a much better product than if you self produce (there's a reason record labels require their bands to work with established cats)
4.
That looks totally epic!
thanks man We are getting close to finishing at this point!
5. as above. Better to re-record it but if its very minor tweakage melodyne is the best I've come across.
6. So we finally had the re-launch last Saturday (though tbf there are still things to be done). Here's one taken before the hordes arrived: View from the couch: a close up of my desk: With Iron Maiden's front man: Here's the Big Room: And the White room: Nearly there!
7.
4 years..! 4 bloody years..! For that alone: medals all round. Good luck with the finishing touches, and congratulations on getting that far. Big thumbs up...

Huge congratulations Trev, it's been fabulous to watch it develop from here, I can't imagine the rollercoaster its been for you though!
Thanks Gents, very much appreciate it. Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden is coming to do the official launch and I've got a record being released next week so life feels pretty good right now!
8. Thanks man! Great to see you! For everyone else's interest, we've been working away on dull detail stuff trying to get it finished. Official launch party is coming soon so it's all hands on deck with paintbrushes and cable ties at the moment. Photographer is coming late this week so you might even get some professional photos at last...
9. If you want great sounding drums, you need a great sounding studio: http://www.circlestudios.co.uk/recordingdrums
10. Did you use the combi updater? Anything else often causes problems
11. MAc mini's are great for music production!
12. and fwiw its entirely true about the wall covering. Though if anyone asks he always says it's mongolian monkey hair... another interesting fact is that the 1176 on the bottom left of your pic (which fwiw was used on bass in Master of Puppets) now resides in my rack... ;-)
13.
Favourite thing about Wireworld (Wagener's gaff) is he used weed matting to cover his absorption, and it looks ace - who would have thought? That and the mountain of fantastic kit obviously!
That's Wireworld 2 in your pic. The pic from mine is wireworld 3!
14.
Cheat
Jealousy will get you nowhere! ;-) Here's a little photo of us on the last day for your bedside table:
15.
The anti-modelling brigade are a funny sort. Another case of hearing with your eyes rather than your ears! I have had comments and questions about my tone from many golden eared purists, and I've never owned anything with valves in it in my life
TBH I didn't think modelling even came close until I heard the Kemper. (I wanted them to work for me but I always found them somehow two dimensional). Having heard the Kemper, I ordered one immediately. (Though tbf I was in Nashville at the time producing a record that Michael Wagener - possibly the king of guitar tone - was mixing. Im lucky enough to have brought his full set of Kemper amp tones home with me ;-)
16.
Fair point, kinda at the opposite end of the financial spectrum to your rather lovely setup I guess mate, £200-300 max? Chris
You might find a used Macintosh on fleabay. A hidden gem IMO. I suspect that even a used Bryston or similar will be out of your league Im afraid.
17. I've uploaded a few soundfiles for your interest: http://www.circlestudios.co.uk/soundfiles
18.
...and here's a photo showing it from the opposite angle: "I think that hi hat needs a little cut around 12K" "Raaawwwwrrrrrrrrrrr!" "That's no moon, it's a sub-woofer..." Etc
Harhar! Love it!
19. I don't even want to imagine! Control room ceiling is now done: http://www.circlestudios.co.uk/controlroom
20. What 94 mic tie-lines into the control room looks like:
21. All good points above. I'm a bass player and a producer/engineer. The point that most players seem to miss is that it's all about the song. Play whatever best complements the song, not what makes you look like the most virtuoso player, use whatever tone is going to best complement the song, not 'your standard tone' (if you don't the mix engineer is just going to use an eq to shred it to make it fit into the mix anyway). Listen to the producer/engineer if he is any good at all. It's likely that he has a vision for the song and any suggestions he makes are generally an outsiders view as to what is likely to improve the song (it's outsiders that will buy it after all!). And if you have listened to the point above, sorted your rig out in advance and practised the track to death, then you might even enjoy the experience
22.
Whats you etimated "done for now" date? Given that these projects never really quite end
All the rooms You've seen are useable now though there's at least one job to be done on each of them. I have a couple of more substantial projects in mind for space you havent seen yet. I guess they could take me all the way through the summer!
Must admit that control room looks good! Bet Gangnam style sound good on those speakers! ....
Thanks man! (Believe it or not those speakers have never had gangam style played through them ;-)
