1. Hi all. Ok so, I'm on the market for a sample rate reducer (in the form of a stompbox). My mate used to own the 'Bugbrand Bugcrusher Micro'; excellent sounding pedal!. As I understand it, it sounds a bit like a tame ring modulator; it creates new harmonics, and more of them the lower you go with the sample rate. Sadly, it was one of only few released in 2008; he has since sold it on, and Ebay shows no sign of any either. I've looked into other brands, but nothing quite compares. What alternatives are out there at the moment? something that sounds the same, or could be twigged to sound like the Bugbrand perhaps? Cheers. Greg.
2. Hi Gazwills. Mmm, interesting, where did you read this? I'd certainly like to know more. Can anyone else confirm this idea?
3. Just spotted the Zvex WM 'Vexter'. Same sound. The simpler paint job means that they shave about a 100 off the top.
4. Awesome. Thank you all. This is some great feedback!
5. How does it compare to the Fat Fuzz Factory; could the FFF be dialled in to mimic a WM (or as close as)?
6. Hi all. Ok so, I'm shopping for a Low pass filter (in the form of a stompbox). I have recently contacted Taylor at Iron Ether regarding a custom xerograph; with an expression (pedal) input for BOTH resonance and frequency (cut off). Sadly, he no longer offers custom jobs anymore. To my mind, the only company that offers such, is Moog with the MF-101; my complaint with this though, is that it's not true bypass, not to mention expensive! (unless you can convince me otherwise). Suggestions please? Cheers.Greg.
7. Hi all. Ok so, I'm shopping for a Bitcrusher. My mate keeps banging on about a certain 'Bugbrand Bugcrusher Micro' that he used to own, and swears by it. Anyways, little does he realise (and as I later found out), the pedal is out of production. What alternatives are out there at the moment? something that could be twigged to sound like the Bugbrand perhaps. I've had suggestions for the IE Frantabit; but I'm worried about it sounding too 'whooshy' (filter like), for want of a better term. What do you guys reckon? Cheers. Greg.
8. Agreed rmorris, can't justify the price. What do you make of the clones that are available?
9. Hi pantherairsoft. Would the Reflex work ok with the Moog MF-101, to control the resonance and cut-off on the Low Pass Filter?
10. Why so expensive compared to their other fuzzes? What's so special? How does it compare to the Fat Fuzz Factory? Cheers.
11. Steve brought my Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones Signature. A great guy; friendly and honest. Good communications. Payment was quick/smooth also... no dramas here! I would recommend him as a trustworthy Basschatter. Shout out to Nigel ('yorick') at PMT Birmingham; thank you again for the guitar box mate! Much appreciated! Cheers. Greg.
12. Hi all. The Moog MP-201 (as I understand it) was a handy piece of kit; sadly, it is no more. Is there any alternatives out there, that do the same job? Cheers Greg.
13. Hi all. *PRICE DROP* (NOW £575 ovno). UK shipping included! Open to (sensible) offers...
14. Hi all. 'Live in Europe' and 'Live at Nublu' have definitely become some of my favourites from Nerve. I'm intrigued to know how John is achieving the following effects; settings? How is he manipulating/controlling the effect? I am already aware that he favours the Boss OC-2/Zvex Woolly Mammoth/Moog MF101 set-up. I'm trying to understand the science behind the sounds; how are the pedals working in conjunction to one another? 'Live in Europe' at 31:48? https://www.youtube....h?v=prOtgYuLC0E 'Live at Nublu' at 09:00? https://www.youtube....h?v=G6kGbZuEp1M All feedback greatly accepted?
15. Hi Sirius. 'Designed and completed in Chicago, USA. Crafted in Indonesia' according to the headstock
16. Lol, cheers Paul! It's a great bass; thinking at withdrawing it, but no, it needs to go UK shipping included!
17. Great, cheers Cheddatom! I'll have a look.
18. Hi all. Hope you're well. (Probably a dump question now but) What is a buffer? I hear this term used frequently, especially now that I'm looking into effects pedals. What are their purpose and how would they apply to my pedal setup? Cheers Greg.
19. Lol Woodinblack, that was my initial thought, but that all seems a bit of a ball ache. Plus, the money spent, I might as well go for an all USA (or something similar). 'Buy cheap. buy twice' I s'pose Don't get me wrong, it been a great bass; it's been my 'go to' and the only axe that I've used consistently of the last few years, so is definitely been through the mill- who could blame it for breaking s'pose lol Again, thanks to all for your suggestions!
20. Lol Woodinblack. A lot of theatre shows; there's always somebody that wants to go mental with the spots- can become a rather humid, sticky experience lol. I don't go to the gym so often nour days, I just sweat it out on stage LOL Tbf, the original neck did last me 5/6 odd years; so I definitely got my wear
21. Hi all. Wow, that you for all your feedback. Appreciate it! Truss rod snapped in the original. The neck had a nasty habit of bowing frequently due to stage lighting; subsequently, I found myself continually adjusting the truss. After one too many times it decided to give up the ghost- I guess I got unlucky. The replacement isn't that bad; initially, I was quite impressed with the new spec on it, however, the truss slipped the other month, creating an awful buzz higher up the neck. My local Luthier fixed it for me now though. Anyways, as explained in my post, I was looking at the USA standards, in the hope that the 'graphite reinforced' necks will play their part. However, the price feels a little much, hence why I asked for alternatives (bringing us back to square one)
22. I love Jazz basses. Wouldn't be without one! Until now, I've tried to get away with a standard MIM jazz, but its struggling to hold up against the strains of regular gigging; it's already on its 2nd neck replacement (and even that's not serving me well). It's fact, I'm going to have to fork out for something with a little more build quality. Ok so, I'm a fan of the USA standards, not a fan of the price though! At close to 1200, it feels like a bit of a sting; great basses, not 1200 worth though! Sadly, you're largely paying for the name with Fender. Can anybody recommend any Fender JAZZ alternatives? My budget is £800 (£1000 max) (Brand new). SPEC ESSENTIALS: Body Material: Alder Neck Material: Maple Neck Shape: Modern 'C' Neck Finish: Preferably satin urethane back (basically anything but gloss!) Fingerboard: Maple Fingerboard Radius: 9.5" (241mm) Scale Length: 34" (864mm) *So basically, a JAZZ bass with Fender fell and sound (passive electronics), but NOT ender is what I need*
