1.
Wals have thier own sound that no other bass can produce, i've heard close but not the same, as for a starting price of £3200 it does seem a little steep but check the price of an alembic or a ken smith. There is something missing from the new wals though, the new necks are constructed using maple & mahogany, the original wals used hornbeam in the centre of thier necks. I would be interested to know if that affects the tone ??
When i had my two made in the late 90's I had a real choice of the woods that were used. I was certain of the sounds i wanted and was advised by Pete accordingly at the time and when they were finished the fretless was unbelievable in its tone and swell, its a real singer in both mine and Petes/Pauls opinion. My fretted was equally as stunning, sharp clear and punchy. I will get round to putting them in the porn section soon. They have both performed faultlessly over the years and having tried similar, i find that there are very few comparisons on the market. I forget what i paid for mine but had two made at the same time. It is down to what you like and how it feels as an instrument, and the less you have to fight with it the better. With regard to eq etc, you can always get a great sound in whatever context and unlike some other custom builds you dont get bogged down with having too much eq.... I think that the standards will be the same if not improved as things move on so i doubt very much the quality will diminish in any kind of takeover. I think people need to look at it as a continuation of a product with eventual advancements i am sure, as opposed to a takeover and rebadge which it certainly is not. They had been in the past and still will be in for the longhaul!!
2. Hi All, Does anyone here know of, or have an adapter that can convert an old set of organ bass pedals to be MIDI compatible. I have sourced one kit from the net but despite waiting 6 or more weeks for the item, it appears to be DOA Has anyone tinkered with their own home project or actually made a converter or can point me in the right direction with results they can share with me?? Any help would be gratefully received. Steve

6.
You could try an Alembic strap (or Moody - they make them for Alembic) - an extremely wide, supple and strong laminated leather strap. Very expensive but a very high quality product. I don't use them because I don't use leather - I've seen them though and if you don't have the ethical problem, then they're about as good as it gets. Italia offer a similar product (the wife and husband team that was Moody split and the husband now trades as Italia).
Italia straps are what i use for my Wals which are fairly weighty. Great product and good leather and they are doing a two for the price of one at the mo. I have not seen anything like them in this country especially the 4 inch width ones that i use. If they area bout, you will certainly pay for them!! Steve
7. Great songs guys, good to see john giving a helping hand Steve
8. Maybe not completely related but i bought a midi adapter kit from the states weighing in at about nothing really, valued at $50. I paid an addition £12.54 when i picked it up from Royal mail £8.00 of which was Royal mail handling charge.......

16.
Hi I bought this acoustic bass last year for very litle money and then decided to make a fretless out of it and put some flatwounds on it. It sounds ok and I tried to play with it on my rock band but I don't really have use for it. Comes with a gig bag. Pick it up from Sevenoaks, or maybe Putney when I drive in.
Nice one David, Good to see you today and a big thank you for the acoustic bass. I plays pretty well i have to say!! Thanks again Steve
17. Thanks, I wasn't too sure of it being in the right place myself Steve
18. Put it to the bass playing people and take it from there??
19. Thanks very much. I dont mind where it moves to just that people can see it and maybe recommend a friend so to speak. You would not believe the hostile welcome i got from a guitarists forum. Ok i posted it in the wrong section, but as a newbie so to speak i was not allowed to post in any other section until i had reached a certain amount of postings....You would think that people would be appreciative of the opportunity..?? Steve
20. Hi all, I did not get to much of a good welcome when I posted this post on a guitar forum, guess that's because I am a bass player.... Anyway I thought I would post here as we all seem to be much more helpful towards each other..... So, here's the post!! I am currently the MD for a female singer songwriter and have been tasked in finding suitable musicians for her project, and that's where the guitarists come in. I need to fill the vacancy for two guitarists who can work towards a showcase gig potentially at the end of November, schedule providing. The successful two will be part of a line up that will do all of the necessary promotion, TV, Radio, tours, to promote the already recorded album. So to all you guitarists that may be interested, open auditions are planned for the end of next week and ongoing until we can find suitable, players. The location is in the Guildford catchment area and that is where auditions will take place. Interested players should check out www.louiselegry.com and then mail me or PM me and we can take it from there. There are some tracks on the site but I can provide you all with more information and tracks pre-audition. Thanks in advance guys Steve Thank you all for the help on this one, but the posts are not available anymore, so i'm going to ask admin to remove it to save further confusion. Cheers all Steve
21. I spent years, moving from one bass to another until i found what was comfortable for me, and that is where i have settled and yes, its an expensive one. It feels good, fits my playing and moreover feels comfortable or part of me when i hold it and play. Having said that, i do know of some top pro players who have cheaper basses and mod them to their requirements. I guess the feel and fit are right for them but a few tweaks here and there are needed with the sound.
22. Thanks Guys, The plan is that i am involved in a music project and taking on the MD role, So, for my sins i am searching for competant and relatively experienced guitarists that can fill two posts in the line up. I can forward more info about the artist to interested parties later, but thought i would try guitarists forums first. Thanks Steve
