1. I've not heard any stories of the Behri' cabs 'blowing up' or anything. I would totally agree with how well the cabs appear to be built. Effort has gone into the little details that make cabs good. The wheels, side handles and a decent from grill make for a good package. Like stew says.. for the price, you really cant go wrong. Think how many of these cabs you could buy in comparison to other 'more expensive' makes.

I guess it depends on what sort of sound you want and how deep your pockets are too.

2.
Hi Dood..

I've been trying to find a worthy Multi-Fx replacement for my ageing Alesis Midiverb 4 which has been bolted into my 6U for what seems like an eternity. Its old and kranky now (...and loses marks because the display backlight has had it too), but was wondering how highly you rated the G-Force ?
Seen a few reviews 'leaning' towards electric 6-string use rather than bass...so woz wondering if you give it a big thumbs up ?
ps... where did you aquire the unit,

All,
For the record,
4U containing 1 x Thunderfunk550, 1 x Midiverb 4....and some space in between :)
Soory chap I hadn't spotted your post. Well, the GFORCE gets a massive thumbs up. It's actually a studio processor, as opposed to a guitar specific unit. It really is as good as everyone says. I have had mine for a few years, and despite new units coming out on the market, it looks like only these, the Lexicon kit and the TOTR Eventide kit have remained in big touring rigs. Vai and his band use 'em.. infact I think he has just upgraded to the new TC foot controller/rack.
The GFORCE can do bass and has absolutely no problems with my low F# string.

If you cant stretch to the G Force, I would highly recommend it's little brother, the G Major. Another stonkingly good FX unit. This one is tailored more to the giiging/live musician and has some different functionality on board, such as external amp switching.

I have a lot of respect for TC!

3. It's a date! ;o) So would I!!! I'm hoping to take delivery tomozz.

My thoughts (in comparison to my Techs) are that the Techs will have a clearer upper mid, making the solo voice more 'vocal'. I am expecting that the bottom end will be higher up in the 100Hz+ region on the Techs too. In comparison, I think the Epi will sound deeper and will have a more sizzling top end, giving the cab a flatter, even slightly scooped sound. Either way I am expecting them to sound very different from each other.. and there will probably be aspects of the Techs I will miss. possibly.

My Techs suited my Elite 6 and Tobias basses a lot better than Doodle. Doodle has a pronounced upper mid quality to it.. so the 'scooped' sound from the Epi may well be better suited to that bass.

Expect a full review soon then!

4. I played a BA410 (The 'alu' coned cabs) the other day actually. Had a good 3 hours to mess around with em. The sound of the speakers wasnt bad at all for the price. The bottom end was *there* - not massive and a little too 'diet' for me. Obviously, you look at these cabs and you naturally have a thought about Hartke.. we know how good *they* sound.

The thing that really put me off though, was the tweeter. Every note I played had a 'note' added from the tweeter. a 'ring' or 'resonance' if you will. I do like the sound of good tweeters.. but I couldnt get on with this one. For the price of the cab, I'd be happy to upgrade the tweeter straight away.

To be honest though, I would whole heartedly say, if you fancy an 'alu' cab.. save your pennies and get the Hartke 4.5XL.

That aside, you are talking about the normal paper cones 'BB' type.. which could be a whole different story (except for the tweeters, of course)

5.
Jon Shuker will do all of that, no worries :) - though there's few Velociraptors in Yourshire, not since Dood demanded their claws for the Doodle's fingerboard markers ...
lol.. demanded? Actually as it happens, they willingly gave them up when Jon was spotted at work on "the doodle".

i do suspect it may have been something to do with Samson and Ruby circling the building doing their best guard dog impressions though! Thats enough t omake anyone loosen their extremities!!

6. Awww that's easy! Save yourself a bundle and get some of the best leads around! Custom lengths too. Watch how many +1's my post will get when I recommend our very own Dave 'OBBM' Polgaze.

He makes leads to order.. Speaker/ Instrument / Patch.. pretty much whatever you need. Competitive prices too!

7. Good post mate! Well.. I'm really driven by seeing other players just 'doing great bass' whatever it may be. I want to be as good as I can I guess. I saw this young lad doing amazing fretless a while back.. I wanted to grab a fretless and copy him straight away! So, I guess as long as there are musicians (not just bass) doing stuff that gets me interested.. then I'll keep wanting to learn more. I'll never be 'good enough'. There's always going to be someone doing 'cool stuff' on bass.

8. I think the great thing these days, is with the amount of excellent Luthiers out there, the possibility of having an instrument to your own specification; a 'signature model' as it were is far more attainable than ever previously.

Here's mine!

34" Scale
Tuned F# to C (Low to high) on standard gauge strings.
2 EMG DC active pickups
EMG 18v 2 band preamp
Individual quick release monorail bridge pieces.
White Ash body with deep scoops and extended lower horn for comfort and steady playing position.
7 piece laminate Maple/Wenge neck (with strengthening inserts and dual truss rods designed to have very little bow/relief to allow for tapping and 'Chapman Stick' style playing.)
Top grade Birdseye Maple fingerboard with a high gloss lacquer finish.
High gloss Mystic 'Violet Dreams' flip paint (main colours are violet to green flip)
My custom heel cut away strengthened with neck inserts to allow full access all the way up to the 24th Fret
My design 'ramp' placed between the pickups and is height/angle adjustable.
The bass also features a personalised fretboard inlay and signed, engraved covers / headstock to finish off the 'signature' build.

The latest addition is the Gotoh tuners that apparently are lighter than the Hipshot equivalents. They are luverlee!

9. If you can find one (and they usually pop up on the USA 'bay), grab yourself a 1980's Fender Jazz Bass Special, or it's active 22 fret counterpart, the apltly named Fender Power Jazz Bass Special. They are of Japanese origin and are fan-bloomin-tastic!

I have a PJBS 1989 model in red. the body has a few dings, but it sounds really amazing. It's a Jazz neck, with a P bass body, no pickguard. PJ pup arrangement. I understand the neck is based on a 62 Jazz.

Noteable users include Duff McKagan (often seen with a pearl and a black JBS) - that geeza from Simple Minds had one and you can see one in the No More Tears video by Ozzy Ozbourne.

oh.. I picked mine up for about 200 quid! (they were nearer 800 back in 89)
