1. Hi everyone!

Ok.. apologies I have been away for a day or so... to do a little investigation for some new cabs. I'm off out again this weekend elswhere, but so far I have found out the following...

I don't think I like MarkBass cabs. They have a great tone, just not a tone I like. I'm not too excited about Warwick cabs at the moment, but only had a chance to try a couple. However, on Steve (CrazyKiwi) 's advice I went to try some more Epifani gear today. I went for for a trott down to the bass gallery to see Alex, infact. Lovely bloke.

So we had a play with the Epifani 4x10 and the 2x12.. quite nice, lovely clarity. But didnt really offer anything more than my Tech cabs. I started to wonder if selling them was such a good idea after all!

I also had a chance to pull out some EBS cabs for a thrash. Still the 4x10's left me wanting. I don't know. Maybe it was the shop acoustics?

    Well.. no...

I was asking Alex about the 6x10's, when he piped up " We have one in stock!"

*nan taylor voice* welllllllllllllllllll... stone me... I fawwt i was gonna die with shock... the fackin liberty....!

I think I wil just end the report here! Every other cab after the Epifani 6x10 UL sounded like wee wee. I'm gonna try to prove the fact wrong.. but I think I may have found another step to sonic nirvana!

Is it better than the Techs? Well.. that I can't answer. I'd love to hear John's new Tech 6x10. I reckon it will have simialr 'cab eating' abilities. The Epifani 6x10 VS 1 of my Tech 4x10's is no contest. I think 2 4x10's would have been similar, but the one cab solution looks like a step closer! One to be recommended on this list.

  2. The guy at fareast (John?? I think) is a really nice bloke and has some nice examples of second hand Jap basses.

I can't recommend Ishibashi enough.. they maybe on the otherside of the world, but they managed to get a bass in to the UK in about 5 days for me.. thats pretty good going! lol

  3. Not with the Bass Centre, but I have agreed with other companies, such as the Bass Gallery, if I didnt like a product I could return it. You are within your rights, under the distance sales act, I believe. Some companies will even give you 14 days from the date of delivery, but the usual 'product must be return in as new condition with all the labels and packaging' yah dee dah dee dah applies.

Whether or not you could go gig a piece of equipment, you'd have to ask.

  4.
oh thats interesting..... was in stanton with dan from dragline so will get in touch

    cheers

Dan delivered all the hardware for my new Gas boiler the other day! Awesome singer that guy! We used to share the bill sometimes down at 'The Oval' before it closed.

Errmmm.. I don't know any amp techs at the mo. - I'm seeing an opening here.. I am (was) a qualified electronics engineer, but it has been some years since I have done it! ;o)

  5.
Yes it appears that he likes the tone of the Tech cab but just wants MORE, and I'd say that's what this 6x10 delivers; what the 2x10 has x 3.

The 2x10 can and will handle a gig by itself if anyone is having doubts about it.
I would agree there, I found that my two Tech 4x10's just wanted for more. I could have easily wound my poweramp open with out them breaking into a sweat. With that in mind, the 6x10 or 6x12 even is on my shopping list of possibilities.

Look forward to the review John!

  6. Yeh! I've been singled out you evil people!! ;o) lol lol.. Actually, since it has caused a stir.. and frankly there is NO WAY that anyone could have made that many posts in such a short time on this forum, I really don't mind being the butt of the joke. BRING IT ON! make it 10,000 posts! May this be a lesson to you all!

    Issue closed!

  7. Since it is I who is being discussed, I'd add that post count means nothing.absolutely nothing.

(other than I am a sad bag who needs to get out more often... And I have a sense of humour!!!!)

  8. Likewise mate! none of those manufacturers build anything even close to what I am after. So I have a choice of buying blind (and I realise that there are one or 2 makes that I cant go wrong with) OR, what might be fun is to see if I can figure out a design and ask our resident cab builder, JPJ if he fancies a new project! ;o)

  9. I have made no purchases yet! GUH!! I'm surprised at myself! Actually.. I am thinking about *trying* 15's for bottom and an 8 in the same box with some tweeters.- messing about for too long with cab software is to blame I think! It maybe a case of having to buy one and try it out.. then sell if it doesnt do what I want. The major issue with living what seems a thousand miles from.. well.. any other habitation!

I had to borrow a link from TB as Berg' have no pics of this beast on their site: http://www.talkbass.com/reviews/showfull.p...ge=39828425.jpg

I very much doubt that there will be much to say by peole on this side of the water... but with much discussion over sealed cabs and mixing drivers, I'd be very interested to hear what our *nerds* have to say. (I mean that in the warmest, kindest way. I'm a geek.)

I suspect it'd be cheaper to get a custom made over here, but I'm interested in the design.

  11. This was as close as I could get to John's 67/69 P basses.

I couldn't afford a real one, so a CIJ 70's reissue is pretty much there. A friend of mine has a 70's P and sent me pics to compare 'em!

    *geek*

I do JD impressions with this one!!

  12. Hi all.

Well, I guess an endorsement is a kinda 'business' deal. "You scratch mine and I'll scratch yours." Simply, if company XYZ feels that they will benefit from adding a musician to their rosta then *hopefully* said musician can stand to gain from the 'deal' too. As mentioned above, this can be anything from getting ya strings at a better price or in some cases.. payment for performances can be in guitars! Seen it with my own eyes too! ;o)

My Guitarist, Andy James released his second album last week. He is on the Ernie Ball rosta and has a good relationship with Peavey amongst others. The guy is a monster on guitar. I mean from a showman point of view, he has 12 fingers. This kinda playing gets him noticed.. and EB like that.. when he's playing their guitars.

He won a national guitar competition against 100's of awesome players... on an OLP!!!!!

CK is spot on. You need a presspack - a good promo/portfolio. There are examples out there on the net. (dont fill it with BS, they probably get 100 of those a week) - all of the above.. press clippings, album releases, what you are doing at the moment and where you intend to take it. CD's, videos etc. Companies like to see you are hoping to have a future with them.

For example.. I go ON and ON and ON and ON about Shuker. Gawd.. it's lucky I like them and not hate! lol lol lol

  13.
is this when you were fitting the tuning keys?
LOL!!!! Thats awesome! Yes! I'm glad that the truss rod doesnt need a tweak. I couldnt hold the spanner and balance on the strings at the same time ! ;o)
how have have you mananged to tweak your post count dood? :)
t'wasn't me your honour.. some li'l monkee did it!!! lol .. OK!! I admit it. I am a geek!! I spend too much time on my bass.. too much time here!! lol - well.. Bass is ma life!
A 110 'E' string gives me the frights. The 175 doesn't look like it would move if I jumped on it.

Remember to PM me if you're taking that bass out in public so I can have a look. Cheers Dood

Quick Edit: Just thought I should add that I don't intend to jump on your bass to prove my initial point
Hey dude! The 175 is a very taught string in comparison to using a 145 as an F#. It has a certain WOOF to the tone. Not the clanky 'drop D tuning' type sound. (Which is lovely) but a more 'standard tuned' sound, if you get me?

I will certainly tell you when she's going out to play. We have no gigs until September.. I'll keep ya posted!

  14.
I agree with you about the vents however the type and location of the side handles will make a big difference to the slap tone.
What? Am I hearing this correctly? The vents and location of the handles affect the amp's tone???

  15. I run an 18V system on the BQS system ( ithink it is called) but you can run EMGs and a 9v preamp off the same battery, no probs. You could even run one battery for the pups one battery for the pre, 9 v each.. or do a full on 18v system if the pre will take it. I'd have a word with our man retro first, to see if you can. EMG circuits do, but thats not what you're after.

  16. Awww lovely! well.. I have a 4u rack. It contains very little at the moment. I have an EBS multicomp, a TC Electronics G-Force and my favourite amp.. a 1u 1k+1k power amp. I have a power rack strip at the back of the box and a blanking panel at the front.

Every cable is neatly arranged so the signal leads stay away from the mains leads.

All the EQ / fx / valve sims are done on the TC. I mix a direct signal with the compressed signal and like to use cabs that are a bit hifi. Thats really about it. Oh, I also carry a stereo DI box and an MXR M80 should anything go badly wrong!!!
