1. I don't think we should downgrade it, I purchased it second hand and you always take a chance that it has not been abused before you get it, I've searched the internet and can't find any references to reliability problems, and the customer support from AER has been first rate. The first generation of amp ones had heat sinks and they have upgraded the chassis on mine free of charge to the chassis which incorporates a fan which the second generation have. Can't fault them.
2. I've been getting some rather unpleasant distortion over recent weeks, looks as though AER are going to provide parts free even though it's well out of warranty, I think I will still have to pay for labour though.
3. I was seriously tempted by that amp two, you thwarted my master plan which was to wait six months until beedster was desperate to sell, and then get it for a song! From what I hear the amp two is a little more HIFI than the amp one. The amp one is seriously loud for its size and has a nice warm sound to it. I have had some problems with my amp one recently and have found the customer support from AER and westside distribution to be first rate, even providing parts for free even though it's well out of its guarantee! Good luck with your two. Chris
4. There was an amp two which sold recently on bass chat, I personally have an amp one and love it...
5. After years of fiddling with various active basses, constantly messing with bass, treble, mid (cut-boost-and then pick a frequency!) pickup balance, 9 volt, or 18 volt, before i even begin to think about my amp equalization, (just confusing myself really!) I must admit to be rather pleased I stumled across passive basses. Maybe its because im a bit simple but now i'm a bit older i just ike a volume and a tone knob on my bass and a nice flat EQ on my amp....simples...
6. A bit of fine steel wool, a stanly blade and some lemon oil and I can't believe the change after an hour of elbow grease! It's gone from a nasty 40 year old gunk and bacteria encrusted smelly piece of wood to a beautifully grained rosewood fretboard, thanks the the advice.
7. OK, I've taken delivery of my beautiful old precision, however the fretboard is particularly gunky and looks like it hadn't been cleaned for 40 years, I intend to put some lemon oil on it once clean, but what's the best way to get the gunk off, I've read a few different things, steel wool, lighter fluid, soap and water, but thought I'd get some basschat advice before I give it a go.
8. Just had a look back through my emails and I purchased the new black tuners, bridges and knobs from Status in February this year, so they are pretty much brand new! The S2 Classic is currently listed on the status website for £2195, and this is in mint condition but £900 cheaper!
9. If anyone is interested in a status S2 classic it's now for sale on the forum :-(
10. [sub]Hi, thanks for the offer but not really my thing.[/sub]
11. Thanks for the kind offer, I know the fly is a great bass but it's not something I fancy.
12. Already regretting it, but something's gotta go to keep mrs Anthony happy!
13. Price drop £1250 New price £1200 Due to a couple of new basses coming into my collection something has to go, and it is with great sadness that my love affair with graphite ends. This is a great bass, smooth fast graphite neck, truss rod operates smoothly and it is in overall tip top condition with only a few minor marks that barely show up on the photos. When I purchased this earlier this year it had gold hardware, however I have swapped this with black hardware purchased direct from status so bridges, tuners, and knobs are only a few months old! The specs for this are walnut top, has bass, mid, treble, pick up balance, mid cut/boost, volume and operates with 2x 9 volt batteries. Feel free to come and have a go, currently strung with la bella deep talking flats. Will post to UK for £50 Photos below Thanks
14. A drop of oil did the trick on those tuners, but seriously dirty rosewood fretboard and frets, not sure lemon oil is going to cut through all that gunk!
15.
That's lovely. Looks identical to mine, except mine has a fair bit more buckle rash on it, but same lovely sunburst and rich tort plate. Good work sir - a bass for life!
A bass for life indeed, and I think these are great investments which are surely only going to go up in value, I bought a Fullerton 1984 precision two weeks ago for £800 which had been owned by a collector and looks like new, again surely a good investment, I think I've convinced the wife that vintage basses could be a good retirement plan, and lots of fun for me in meantime :-)
16.
Very nice and what a stupendously good price. How did I miss this on Ebay?
I've been doing some "bass trawling" on preloved, gumtree and eBay recently and there are bargains to be had, about six months ago I missed out on a 1972 jazz bass on eBay which went for £750, with 20 seconds to go on the auction it was on £450 and I foolishly only bid £700 thinking it was a certainty and was gutted when I missed out, I wasn't going to miss this one, I'm glad you weren't "bass trawling" Friday else I'm pretty sure you'd have beaten me to it as it took me until Saturday to convince the wife it was a bargain!
17. Price was £950 buy it now on eBay, was listed Friday night and I bought Saturday morning. :-)
18. Thanks, really pleased with it, it was an eBay buy it now, I did a little research but thought it wouldn't be on there long so took a punt and hoped it was genuine. The only thing is that the tuners are really stiff, any advice for the best way to sort them out?
19. Arrived today, and what a beauty, it even smells like 1971, I've never payed a bass like this before and it is truly wonderful! It obviously hadn't been played for quite some time as when it arrived it was just about unplayable with a ridiculously high action, and old strings, but a few turns of the truss rod which thankfully turns nice and smoothly, some new chromes and a little attention to string height and intonation and all of a sudden I have a beauty in my hands. What a tone! Got this for less than a grand too! Check out my photos. http://s1161.photobucket.com/user/chrisanthony1211/library/AER%20clone/Clone%20mk%202/Fender%20precision%20USA%201984/1971%20precision?sort=3&page=1
20. I've emailed Mr Kent who has advised me that a very reasonable £55 would get both pick ups rewound, less if the fix doesn't need rewiring, that's actually a similar price to the new fender original pick ups that have been put onto it, anyone know if these are any good? Parcel force tracking currently has it in Poole, should arrive tomorrow, I may have to chain the wife up in the house so she doesn't miss the delivery :-/ There could be be troubled the mill if she pops out to her mums, misses Mr parcel force and I've gotta wait until Wednesday!
21. Thanks, I've emailed them for a guesstimate for a repair.
