What other oils would you use? If it was a cricket bat I'd use linseed oil, if it was a door I'd use Danish oil, and if I was frying bacon I probably go for olive oil (or lard!), but I only really know of lemon oil for fret boards?

Gotta say I was really pleased with how it came up, it took about an hour and I couldn't believe how much crud was on it. I was particularly surprised how much gunk came out when I ran the edge of the stanly blade down the edge of the frets, finished off with really fine steel wool and lemon oil, it also brought those frets up nice and shinny too :-) There are a few YouTube videos of this being done which are quite helpful.

I don't think we should downgrade it, I purchased it second hand and you always take a chance that it has not been abused before you get it, I've searched the internet and can't find any references to reliability problems, and the customer support from AER has been first rate. The first generation of amp ones had heat sinks and they have upgraded the chassis on mine free of charge to the chassis which incorporates a fan which the second generation have. Can't fault them.

I've been getting some rather unpleasant distortion over recent weeks, looks as though AER are going to provide parts free even though it's well out of warranty, I think I will still have to pay for labour though.

I was seriously tempted by that amp two, you thwarted my master plan which was to wait six months until beedster was desperate to sell, and then get it for a song! From what I hear the amp two is a little more HIFI than the amp one. The amp one is seriously loud for its size and has a nice warm sound to it. I have had some problems with my amp one recently and have found the customer support from AER and westside distribution to be first rate, even providing parts for free even though it's well out of its guarantee! Good luck with your two. Chris

There was an amp two which sold recently on bass chat, I personally have an amp one and love it...

After years of fiddling with various active basses, constantly messing with bass, treble, mid (cut-boost-and then pick a frequency!) pickup balance, 9 volt, or 18 volt, before i even begin to think about my amp equalization, (just confusing myself really!) I must admit to be rather pleased I stumled across passive basses. Maybe its because im a bit simple but now i'm a bit older i just ike a volume and a tone knob on my bass and a nice flat EQ on my amp....simples...

A bit of fine steel wool, a stanly blade and some lemon oil and I can't believe the change after an hour of elbow grease! It's gone from a nasty 40 year old gunk and bacteria encrusted smelly piece of wood to a beautifully grained rosewood fretboard, thanks the the advice.
-
Any love for lighter fluid?
-
OK, I've taken delivery of my beautiful old precision, however the fretboard is particularly gunky and looks like it hadn't been cleaned for 40 years, I intend to put some lemon oil on it once clean, but what's the best way to get the gunk off, I've read a few different things, steel wool, lighter fluid, soap and water, but thought I'd get some basschat advice before I give it a go.

Price drop £1250 New price £1200 Due to a couple of new basses coming into my collection something has to go, and it is with great sadness that my love affair with graphite ends. This is a great bass, smooth fast graphite neck, truss rod operates smoothly and it is in overall tip top condition with only a few minor marks that barely show up on the photos. When I purchased this earlier this year it had gold hardware, however I have swapped this with black hardware purchased direct from status so bridges, tuners, and knobs are only a few months old! The specs for this are walnut top, has bass, mid, treble, pick up balance, mid cut/boost, volume and operates with 2x 9 volt batteries. Feel free to come and have a go, currently strung with la bella deep talking flats. Will post to UK for £50 Photos below Thanks
