1. I'd like to thank you guys for discussing this. I've played for 27 years now and theory has always been a huge turn-off. I'll be checking out some of those books: I can read dots but actual applied theory is something I just don't do at the moment. As a result, I've got chops but if someone gives me a chart, I've got to go through it with actual music to play against. I'd like to change this.
2. Weird - it loads the page over and over saying the page had problems and had to be reloaded, eventually it gives up. Safari, iOS 10 latest.
3. Time to kick things off in 2016! News: 1. I've got an amp repair specialist in Reading who will look at the head and give it a good service and renovation 2. Richie is going to get the replacement speaker to Jamie so I can actually get hold of it (new neodymium 15 inch driver - a better replacement as it'll take some of the weight out!) 3. Not being a Tolex wrapper, I've engaged these guys to recover the cabinet: http://vyseamps.com all I have to do is strip to bare wood completely and ensure all surfaces are ready, they're based in Pinner so not too far. I think getting a pro to do this job is the ideal way to go.
4. http://news.sky.com/story/1619890/motorhead-fans-watch-lemmys-funeral-online Apparently 230,000 were watching on YouTube. That's a hell of an audience, Lemmy.
5.
A beautiful eulogy from his lad.
Particularly enjoyed him mentioning what his dad would threaten to do with a broomstick if people didn't stop talking over music. Hahaha
6.
Phil Campbell "couldn't make it"...seriously? WTF
Yeah, I was pretty gobsmacked by that. Weird.
7. Lemmy's memorial service is streaming: this will be quite something.
8.
i always take 2 to a gig because i'm an expert at breaking a string.
Get your bridge checked, you probably have a burr or two there which is catching the windings. Get some micro-files and get the bridge smooth again. Or get a roller bridge, I can recommend those!
9. Absolutely. That's why everybody acknowledges that Lemmy was a follower of the herd, a man with no mind of his own, who listened to everybody and ensured he did what they wanted. <chuckles>
10. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/growing-old-disgracefully-lemmy-on-heartbreak-ageing-and-his-penchant-for-nazi-memorabilia-2142747.html ""We were not heavy metal," he snaps. "We were a rock'n'roll band. Still are. Everyone always describes us as heavy metal even when I tell them otherwise. Why won't people listen?"" I rest my case. Uninformed? The man himself said it angrily in 2010!
11. Ok, here's my entry: a version (with a few fluffs) of "Midnight" by Joe Satriani, played on a 4-string Warwick FNA Jazzman: https://youtu.be/BeGlAtQrU74 Hope you like it, it's my first playing video! I recorded separately and mixed a little reverb in. Video was done on an iPhone 6, and I edited using microsoft's free movie maker, which is good for free!
12. I've got 9 if you include the Ashbory - I tend to use the 6 string a lot because it's got a GR55 it can drive, which means it can "be" several basses thanks to COSM modelling ;-) the musicman bass is particularly good on that, digs in beautifully. I gig regularly with 4 of these, one or two I wouldn't gig because they're dear to me, but the irony is I gig the expensive ones and don't mind them being dinged, etc - all part of the history you get with a working instrument!
13. Good call Lojo. Lemmy was utterly sick of telling people they weren't a metal band!
14.

I'll give it a look. Thanks
How did you get on? I have exactly the same repairs to do to exactly the same bass! The nut cracked and I need a bridge pin (I'd like to buy a complete set to keep some spares, I think). I like this bass and I'd like to be able to play it again!
15. Alas, "reliced" is not possible as the drummer has already stripped the tolex from everywhere apart from the bottom :-D
16. Trace when they were UK based were definitely bastions of UK design and manufacturing. The latin is embossed in solder!!
17. I started out with a carlsbro cobra 90: it wasn't that powerful, but I rewired it to give me a speaker out and then created a cabling system to let me hook more cabs up to it. Surprisingly good trouser flap ensured until I eventually scraped enough together for a secondhand peavey TNT from sound control in Dundee!
18. Just discovered I'm going to have to evict a spider which is living underneath the line out PCB. The designer never spec'd it out for this I'd wager haha
19. Oh dear god, the band appear to have spilled sugary DRINKS into it at some point!!! It did spend a lot of time onstage in Andorra at the Aspen Bar in Soldeu (where I used it) and we did have this thing about Sambuca... THIS AMP HAS GIVEN IT SOME! ;-) (valve socket is untouched, thankfully - it was all surface and is now cleaned!)
20. First - massive thanks to all you guys for leaving those helpful comments. I finally got my hands on the amp! I know - it's taken a long time - but the build is going to happen. I'm posting "before" pictures at the moment: the whole thing is up on Facebook as a page - https://www.facebook.com/TraceV4Reborn I'm documenting everything I can, I'm getting more info on the amp's history and contacting Trace for any details. I've got the service manual and found part numbers, so I should be able to source bits that are in need of replacement with any luck. The head has survived really well: the tubes are probably shot (one KT88 is busted but 3 Ruby's remain...) It's the opening, but things should move on from here. Hoping to do an authentic rebuild. Have to cost it out first - the band want to know what it might cost before anything happens!
21. One is rare, the other less so, but they both growl beautifully. Just replaced the nut on the 4 string with a brass just-a-nut III and the results are great! Love Warwicks, they've got real character and are great for funk with drive. The fretless sounds amazing!
22. I'll be there on Sunday, BC lanyard proudly displayed! I'll be the one wandering around trying out amps with a Rikkers! <drools> Never forget to take earplugs! The old foam type will do, it's more about keeping you sane. They do have some for distribution at the show, I remember that from last year.
23.
bump....
likewise bump on the location bit, people are asking...
24. I'm tempted to give it a couple of sessions just to see if there's anything good on it. Who knows, weirder things have happened...
