  1. If you remove the scratch plate it might have road worn stamped into the body. The Nate Mendel certainly has this and as it`s part of the road worn series, I would imagine this should be the same.

But apart from that, the finish doesn`t look right. It even looks like a sander job and no serial number? I wonder why :D

Looks like a Mexican Classic 60`s model to me.

For me, Laney have this market sown up, if only more people tried them.

The Digbeth 500 head looks lovely and vintage. The cabs are all 4ohm and the whole range looks vintage and lovely like old ampegs. Sound is fantastic.

I like ampeg, but I can't get on board with those looks I'm afraid.

A while back I was interested in their 2 x 12, looked great, good price as well but 30kg? Too heavy for me.

  3. Like lots of us on here I do the occasional gig. I`m not a professional musician, I don`t make loads of money doing it but do get paid for it sometimes.

I`m doing the car insurance quote bit and as it`s a bit of a nightmare trying to work out the best deal, most policy`s state that for social, domestic and commuting use but excluding any trade or professional use. Does doing gigs if you get paid for them come under these conditions? Does anyone else bother?

    Thoughts?

  4. This was my set up last year. It has now changed a bit as it`s just a tuner and a Sans Amp programable through the RCF 715. On this occasion, it was used as a stage monitor and put through the pa but I have used it on it`s own for pub gigs and as I have sold my ABM stack, it`s all I have left.

I wear ear plugs as well due to having a loud drummer and 2 Marshalls, one each side and this set up does the biz. Well worth thinking about.

@Skybone just reread your opening post. This RCF can handle all the bass you can throw it, 15" speaker and 1400 watts, (more like 700 watts) of class D power. The DSP / FIRPHASE gubbins built in takes care of the sound without you having to think about it.

    I know

guy pratts bass Betsy was discovered to be made from plywood in his book.

like I said, if it sounds good, play it till it breaks

It wasn`t Betsy as it`s a real 64 if I remember right. It was the Jazz copy that his dad bought him that was ply. Nowt wrong with a ply bass though.

Always typically late to the party but i got a mid 80's BB1100 at the weekend in a part trade. This is my first venture into the world of vintage BB1100's and am really impressed so far, weight's not too bad either at 8.5lbs - i was expecting it to weigh more for some reason. Took it do a 'Dad rock' rehearsal yesterday and it played really well, more so on the P pickup in passive, cut through really nicely - think this may make a great work horse until i get bored.

A few Q's - i'm assuming it's a Taiwan model but how do you tell if it's Jap or Taiwan? i can't see any serial numbers externally, Also mine has a schaller 3d bridge and tuners - assuming these must be upgrades?  although can't see any extra holes and they do look quite old - functions great. Looks a like a BT1 Hipshop d-tuner as the tuners do look very similar to that of past MM Stingrays that i've owned - anyone ever fitted a D-tuner to theirs? .

The serial number and made in.. are on the back of the headstock below the tuners. On the one`s I have owned, it`s stamped into the wood and can be difficult to see. The bridge and tuners are replacements but as Maude says the pickups are the the original type. Cracking bass.

  7. As the rest of the band don`t seem too keen on chipping in for the cost of the speakers, I have decided to buy them myself. Might save me some hassle further down the line if things go belly up.

More than likely I`m going to with the Alto 412`s. I reckon that they should do the job and cover any gig when we have to supply the pa.
