  1. Mint MXR Dyna Comp Mini for sale only. Can be used for bass or guitar, usual MXR quality. Dead simple controls, output, sensitivity and attack. Runs from a normal 9 volt power supply. Even the box is as new. The casing is more red than it looks in the pics.

£70 posted UK or £65 collected.

  2. After a few weeks in the studio going back and forwards between an ABM 500 / 15" speaker and my RCF 715, the RCF is the winner. We are a loud band and tbh, the RCF performs as well as the Ashdown set up and is a easy one hand lift.

I have gigged in a small pub with the RCF and it was plenty loud enough but always felt the need to use a traditional amp and cab set up most times. Signal path is so easy: bass - tuner - Sans amp bass driver di - RCF.

So, I`m sorted for now 9_9

COVID did me a massive favour with a band I was in, three of us mates and a mate of a mate. Well the mate of a mate turned out to be a complete control freak and a bloody nightmare. My two other mates are so easy going they didn’t want to be the ones to say anything so it was down to me. Then COVID happened and we accidentally forgot to mention the band to her after and she never got back in touch so result!

Our second guitarist who left (see above) was like that as well. Started out really nice and friendly and then gradually started to try and take over everything which wasn`t going to happen as the rhythm section had been doing this since 2015.

Example: we were offered a 45 mins slot in a local venue, multi band all dayer, £200 and good exposure for us. All back line provided to allow for a quick turnover. The muppett blew this out the water and said he had to have his own gear, amps, pedals which would have taken a fair bit of time that we didn`t have and no compromise!

Funny thing is though dealing with the 2 of them has made me much better at dealing with issues inside the band and made me a stronger person so there is always something to be gained from a bad situation.

  4. In the last 3 years we have changed 2 lead guitarists. The first one dissapeared and refused to answer e mails, calls etc so was replaced. Then he threw a strop when he was replaced.

Next one left just before he was going to be replaced because our singer got pregnant and he wanted to replace her. And he is a gp! Needless to say he was told where to stick that idea.

So a right couple of bangers who I will not have anything to do with again and it feels good!

Im all for ending things nicely but sometimes its just not possible.

  5. Here is what happened to us in a similar situation.

Our female singer in our acdc tribute band gave us notice she was leaving. She was a decent singer, popular with the punters but boy was she hard work. Anyway, we tried out a few but the one who seemed the best vocally wasn`t really a big fan of the band and had trouble remembering the words and song structures for a good while but was a super nice person so she joined.

Then everything went on hold for you know what. After everything got back to normal and we all got together again, our singer had learned the songs and had turned into a great front person for the band. Punters who have seen both versions of the band told us that they liked our new singer better and she was a much nicer person.

So taking a chance on someone worked out for us in the end and we couldn`t be happier.

  6. When our guitarist buggered off he took along with him his pa and his controlling ways, so don`t slam the door on the way oot.

Now we have a Behringher mixer and all the cables and need a set of active speakers. We sometimes have a provided pa when we do larger venues so it`s mostly for your average sized pubs that need them for. Budget isn`t great, around £800, maybe £900 so we are looking at Alto TS, Yamaha DBR or EV ZLX, all seem like decent budget speakers.

The question is do we go with 10`s or 12`s? There will more than likely just a bit of kick drum and vocals going through them. Space for storage at home and for transporting is tight so I`m moving towards the Yam DBR 10`s which seem like a popular choice at £375 or I can get the Alto TS 412 for the same price but are of course a good bit bigger and heavier.

What do you guys reckon? Better to have a larger speaker in case we need to do a bigger hall or would the Yamaha`s do for vocals and kick in your average pub? This has been doing me head in for weeks and I need some real world experience. Ta

  7. It`s always amazed me that Ibanez don`t re do some of the older models, I mean Fender have been doing it for decades!

But maybe the only ones who would buy them would be sad gits on bass forums

  9. At the moment I use:

    Ashdown ABM 500 EVO 3

    ABM Mini 15

    ABM Mini 4 x 8

All the above acquired from @DGBass of this parish. To be honest, the 4 x 8 is blooming heavy and not any good for my band on it`s own, it really needs to be paired with the 15 so in the future I am going to look for a 1 cab solution. Round and round we go...

I also have a RCF 715 that can be used for monitoring or on it`s own for small pub gigs.

Did anyone ever find or order replacement Sandberg knobs for their bass?  I'm after 1 nickel aged jobbie which is 14 euro plus shipping from Sandberg... seems steep.  :/

I`m glad you found some replacements as I tried to order a tuner from their online shop only to discover they don`t ship to the UK due to us not being in the EU. I had to order it through the UK importer, then I had to wait until they were getting a shipment of basses as they wouldn`t order the part on it`s own.

    Madness!

  11. If you plug in a ART mic pre amp or similar, this will drive the amp, runs on a wall wart so plenty of oomph. I had a Crown and had the same issue with a pre amp pedal, might have been the MXR and it couldn`t drive the Crown even on the lower setting you mention.

I already had the ART and it worked a treat.
