1. I think the same Lozbass, hope he's planning on getting back in business soon..
2. Dazed, I will ship in a flight case, but I was not including it in the listed price. The exact diapason that I measure for each string goes from 86.6 to 87.6, should be a 34". Lozbass, you're right, those are other MB Bass (sorry, correct name of the brand is "MB Bass") sold on the Italian market. This is what I remember about the luthier: I may be quite imprecise as I got the info from forums and newsgroup during the years As far as I know the builder (Massimo Scibilia) was a fine luthier for a big name among the most famous brands (brand as Fender, Gibson, Yamaha or Warwick can be) and after a period of time he decided to settle by himself. He was getting quite a good reputation in Italy, especially for the use of Wenge, Ovangkol and Bubina for his instruments, but if I remember correctly some customers complained about him on the forums (could be related to poor communication or delays in shipment but to be honest I didn't really follow so I may be very inaccurate) and from there a lot of flames developed. I looked for his website last year but it was no more online. Here is what I found, I remember all of these instruments as at that time I had no money and could only lurk on the web http://s21.photobucket.com/user/massbass/library/?sort=3&page=1 Here's a brief review from an Italian pro (quite known on the forums) that got an instrument quite close to mine: http://www.robysalomone.com/SK_MBBass_6Fretless.html Sorry that it's Italian... he's basically saying that built quality is good, that the instrument has very good response to the player's touch, that the 33" scale is not easy above 12th fret and that if you like very "mwaaa"-ish fretless this may NOT be the real thing for you as the mwaa doesn't jump out of the bass by itself. thanks, Luca
3. Guys, asked Mail, Boxes & etc and they told me that shipping to UK should be, as I thought, around 70-80 euro, but they make the final quote only when I bring the bass and have the exact address. thanks Luca
4. The bass weights 4.2-4.3 kg on my kitchen scale, nut width is 4.5 cm and string spacing is 18mm It is to be noted that in order to accomodate the Nordstrand the luthier told me he needed to drive the saddles all the way open. Honestly, to me there still a little increase that can be made for the B string, however to me it sounds balanced and I didn't need to do anything else so I left it as Carlos set. I add here another pic with the detail of how the pus have been fitted: I increased sharpness and contrast to highlight this as much as possible.
5. Thanks a lot guys I'll let you know all the infos as I'll be back this evening. Regarding the shipping costs I'll ask tomorrow to MBE, I guess it may be around 70-100 euro.. ? Let you know tomorrow! thanks Luca
6. Guys, try also here to put up for sale my Italian made MassBass 5 strings. As the title says this is a 5 strings, lined fretless, single cut: Alder body, bubinga pommelle top and back, maple neck (2 bubinga stripes), macassar ebony fingerboard, matching headstock. It's passive with 2 Nordstrand dual coil: I had them professionally installed by italian luthier Carlos Micheluttis in Cremona, who build two ebony spacers to adapt them to the bigger recess. The bass was originally equipped with custom made MassBass pickups: when I got the bass from the previous owner he had only tghe bridge one (the bass was used as a Gary Willis on steroids). Out at 700 euro. I'm located in the North of Italy. 7. got it. Well if you want to ship it here I'll take care to rec a couple of clips Cheers Luca
8. Than maybe it's 60s positioning. Guess that Nino should anyway be able.to provide full specs basing on serial and a pic. What about wood combo? Don't really want to hassle you but I guess that a quick clip may be of help to gather interest and facilitate the sale? Thank you! Luca
9. 42 mm from center pole to the bridge edge sounds like 70s. Maybe some good expert can confirm or provider more detailed evaluation..?
10. Hey Rich, is that a 60s or 70s pickup positioning? I'm not really an expert, but the pictures are all slightly angled and I'm definitely not sure... thanks! Luca
11. Hey Fred, what's the weight of this one? any chance that you have a clip of the bass? cheers Luca
12. And finally is gone, traded locally after many, contacts. Thank to everyone that proposed trades or made an offer! Luca
13. Guys, after a careful look I found a ding on the body and noticed that I was not accurate when I reported that there's no kind of roundwound strings mark whatsoever. I inspected the bass more carefully and the mark is there. Nothing serious, you won't even notice that if you don't look for that, and you won't need any kind of intervention, but it's there so I wanted to highlight everything. Sorry for that, I was really convinced about that when I placed the post! Changed the description to include that. thanks Luca EDIT: here you can see in the pics. I increased contrast and sharpness to reveal them as much as possible. Any other picture you'd like (or light angle) just let me know.
14. I completely agree. I still want to believe that there's an explanation for that and they are not simply deliberately trying to get money out of a misunderstanding. Thanks Luca
15. Guys, for anyone's interested: I went to the shop again. I didn't manage to remove neck/pus/pots to check dates, but the shop attendant was confirming that the bass was not actually manufactured at fullerton. I didn't spend time or words discussing about the fact that this was what they actually wrote on their website and it was somewhat odd that they claimed for that knowing this was not true.. I only told them that my main problem was with price, that the bass sounded good but I didn't have all that money, especially since we were concluding the bass was not actually a fullerton but a standard AVRI. The attendant started to say that actually this was a bass for players and not for collection, that it played really good and that at the end of the day this bass was comparable to a custom shop, maybe better playing, with more mojo, but at a similar price range (they have a custom shop out for 2250 euro, on the italian market they can be found with no major difficulties at around 2000 euro). Another attendant of the shop (not sure if one of them is the boss or if they're both owners) came into the discussion telling me that they already had another interested guy that was already convinced of everything and was coming back in few days to take the bass at these conditions so they couldn't lower the price now.. I left the bass were it was. Honestly I don't know if it makes sense or not to value an instrument of its sound, and leave brands and model a part as they are secondary. They are for sure secondary when you find the bass that plays as you like, I'm not really convinced that it is the same when it comes to money... nice story, for me at least.. thanks to all of you for your help, Luca Edit: spelling
16. sorry I was convinced this was still for sale when I replied..
17. The link with the sound clip is not working for me, soundcloud says cannot locate the file.. is it me or a common problem?
18. I also tested a CS in a different shop that I found amazing.. 60s stacked knobs, sunburst, relic.. if only it were not out for 3000 euro..........
19. Dan, i'm totally with you. When I was at the shop I played a '68, a '69, another claimed-to-be 80ish (S854453 so more close to 77-78?), a custom shop and this one. To my ears this was all the way better. You can find gems between mexican fenders and bad 60s originals. If that one is in good working order and I can buy it for a reasonable market value (if I manage to determine what it should be) I'm happy to take it. Luca
