1. Yeah, same. I bought this to try out something modern and active and found that I prefer passive P and J basses. Still, it's an excellent bass. I've not come across anything that compares for the price in terms of quality and hardware.
2. Bump. Still got this for sale. Would consider trades for a retina iPad mini.
3. I've played a Harley Benton fretless bass uke and I liked it. It was nice to play and got a pretty cool sound. Hugh
4. Nothing about that bass appeals to me. I like block inlay maple boards, I like P pickups and I like Warwicks, but mash them all together and I do not like the result
5. I managed to bag a deko P bass, the neck and electronics are perfect, the setup was terrible but that was an easy fix. The pickguard doesn't quite sit flush at the neck which I'd guess is why it's a deko but it doesn't bother me. However I was considering changing the guard anyway to something a bit more interesting. Does anyone know if standard P bass pickguards would fit these basses?
6. Now sold! Up for sale is my fretless Harley Benton Jazz bass. I bought this to try out and see if fretless is for me, turns out it's not so I'm selling it on. It's not been played out of the house so it's still in the same condition as when I bought it brand new from Thomann. I've set this up so the action is nice and low and it has plenty of the mwah we all know and love. A bargain at £75, can post at buyer's expense though would prefer collection from Leeds if possible. Excuse the poor photos!
7. I'm tracking my band on Sunday using a Dell Latitude E6400 laptop (Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, SSD) with Reaper. I don't see myself having any issues with this setup. Hugh
8.
Just got myself a replacement iMac as the old one is almost 8 years old. Went for a 27" 5k display with an i7 4Ghz processor. Hopefully in the next month or 2 I'll get some decent software. I was thinking about getting Logic Pro X, it looks like a bargain. Any users of it care to share their experience, am I better going for Reaper & buying some VSTis? Once I've gotten my DAW sorted out, I'll be looking at interfaces. Edit: Just realised I've posted this in the wrong thread! See you & your link Lurks!
I've heard good stuff about Logic Pro X. It seems to have some nice features. I've not tried it though. Personally I use Reaper and really like it. If you're already using Reaper and are used to it then I'd definitely recommend sticking with that, if not either should do the job. The price of Reaper is unbeatable though! Hugh
9. Presumably you have a recording interface? What exactly do you want to do with it? Will you be recording 1 track at a time to create a project with up to 20 tracks total or 16 tracks at a time to create a project with 100 tracks total? Which DAW are you using? Are you recording audio or MIDI or a combination? These will make a big difference in what you need. I think I'd look for something with a reasonable processor (i5), 8gb RAM and an SSD. If you get something with those specs it should be able to cope with most recording tasks you throw at it (within reason!). Hugh
10. It depends on how it's mixed. The way I see it when I'm mixing something a track is complete when it's mixed and an album is complete when it's mastered. Mastering is important to ensure continuity between each of the tracks on your album. For example if one track is mixed so there's loads of top end and the others don't have this the mastering engineer will fix this so they sound consistent. When I'm mixing something I might add plugins (such as EQ or saturation) to the master buss. If I was sending the track to be mastered I'd leave these on with the exception of a master limiter. This video explains it pretty well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DekX3nq5fNE The other time mastering is important is if you're planning on getting your album pressed to vinyl as there are some limitations of the format which need to be worked around in mastering. In which case you will need a vinyl specific master. Hugh
11. The chain link strap buttons are my favourite touch.

13. Using a bass amp as a home hifi amp is a no go IMO. You'd be much better with a decent integrated amp. That Cyrus is a great amp.
14. Hi guys, thanks for your advice. I was the last owner of the cab and have been trying to help the current owner, who is a friend of mine, get to the bottom of what's up with it. I wanted to make sure that this was not a possible factory fault as if it was there may have been a chance Hartke would have replaced it. I've heard great things about their customer support. Looks like the 1st owner must have damaged the driver and bodged a repair (or lent it so someone who did) and the repair has failed. Anyway, I've said to the current owner that I'll go halves on the cost of a new driver to get this properly sorted so it won't recur. Hugh
15. I've used IEMs before and I like them. The main things to consider are

Monitoring for the rest of the band - if they're all using in ears then this isn't a problem but if not then they'll need monitors that can handle bass or you'll also need an amp on stage
Is the whole band going through the PA? - for IEMs to work the whole band needs to be through the PA or you'll not be able to hear everyone
Does the desk have enough sends?
If you've answered these questions then I say try it. When I have done it I have used cheap IEMs through a cheap Behringer headphone amp. I also used a headphone extension cable to reach.

IEMs - http://www.amazon.co...=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8
Headphone amp - http://www.amazon.co...=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8
16. Yep, great band. Great songs and the bass parts are always very nice and tasteful.
17. If you are listening / watching on youtube you're listening to a compressed digital medium even if the original source was analogue. This proves that it's not the digital compression that's causes newer recorded stuff to sound worse. It's all down to the mixing and mastering techniques used.
18. Sorry to hear that, I really like the look of the SR with maple neck. Will you be going for a different Ibanez? I played an SR600 recently and fell in love with it. A real player's guitar.
19. Either he's offering you a good deal which you should take or he's trying to screw you over. Without the specifics of the gear (makes and models) it's hard to say either way though as he's being cagey with the details I'd lean towards the latter. Hugh
20. His calculations actually seem to make sense there. And if he's right then I'd say that's reasonable as he's giving you aprox half of the equipment and throwing in the monetary difference. If you post what the gear is then we can actually tell you what's reasonable. Hugh
