1. Bought myself a standard precision a couple of weeks ago but wasn't too keen on the weird greenish scratchplate. So I decided to change it out, and the pups, and add ashtrays I was worried they would get in the way but it was cool, didn't mind them at all at rehearsal yesterday. The scratchplate was from cwgp2010 on eBay and fit perfectly and the pickup is an ex wizard thumper, ashtrays genuine fender. Really happy, first time I'd played a p with a band in years, it was like meeting an old friend! They really do cut through the mix. Big smiles from the drummer. Finally finished my jazz too, she'll get her debut next week.
2.
Never played a Lime and I hate any form/brand of relics but slightly off topic I would be interested to know what hardware, body's necks and pups they have. Anyway on topic I have seen some 90's early 2000 Mex Fenders up for like 700 quid and they sell surely a MIM of that age even in great condition is only worth about 300 tops? maybe they are being bought by people who dont know about all the different Fender variations and just they are getting a bargain Fender?
What! :/ My early 90's p was junk! Buzzed like a peed off bee and the neck was as rough as me this morning after six pints of Stella! Maybe their "vintage" now, I keep forgetting how long ago it is, I still think 95 was 10 years ago sometimes my one died from being in a damp garage for too long, still have the body but the neck was wrecked.
3. I have a 2012/2013 precision mim and it's a far better instrument than the early 90's one I had. The neck is fantastic, an utter joy to play. Not much to tell between it and my mates mia to be honest. Maybe we're getting to a point where a fender standard is a fender standard, origin being less of a guide on quality than in years gone by. Played my ibby sr600 tonight though, I forgot how good it is
4. Yet another happy customer John gave great advice regarding my cavity space predicament and delivered a fantasticly made harness that even a simpleton like myself was able to fit in ten minutes. Jazz sounds as she should now, incredible service! Thanks again John
5. Bought a wizard thumper from Lozz, arrived quickly (although no one was here!) and well packed. Collected it yesterday and soldered her in tonight, everything working and it sounds ace. Thanks Lozz
6. Once it hits UK it's essentially 24hr express delivery.
7. Entwistles, nice. That Les Paul wannabe looks fruity!
8.
I don't need yet another Jazz, but this one is a beauty and I like what they've done with the headstock. Anybody knows anything about these Revelation basses? http://webshop.cashconverters.co.uk/auction-item/823251/bass
Never heard of them but it looks nice, one of the better headstocks for sure. For 150, worth a gamble I'd say. I'm having a week off buying gear now, feeling a bit of gear hunters fatigue
9. Thanks for the kind words guys but I'm not the type to get "totes emosh" about what people say on the Internet. Anyway, here are some sub standard pics of her. I've got a set of ashtrays I pulled of a previous p which I might fit (opinions?), think it'd look good with a beigey cream or gold anodised guard. I don't mind the covers as I tend to play just above or just below the pickups, although a thumb rest just above let's me get more purchase so I'll grab one soon. She's strung with flats now and the horrendously action corrected. Got an (ex) wizard thumper coming courtesy of Lozz, I'll have to get the shielding tape out as there is a tiny bit of buzz but it's quiet enough not to be an issue even without. Final pic is her next to my heavily modded jazz (just body and neck is original) anyway, happy, good value for my 250
10. Well the precision arrived today, just had a quick 5 mins with her but she's in fantastic condition, finish on the neck is lovely and the film was still on the mint green scratchplate. Feels unused. Serial number checks out as being a 2012/2013. Really happy with it, quick delivery too. Will get pics up later.
11. I have a 600 and I'm pretty sure that it's unfinished. If there is anything on there, it's very thin so wouldn't be much hassle to refinish. I'd always give it a rub anyway just to get the grime off.
12. I played an American one for a couple gigs then bought a tribute. The finish was far superior on the USA model but apart from that, the tribby was just as good. The lack of tone control never once bothered me, if you started with both volumes rolled off a bit, it was easy to get some variation. My one gripe was that the bridge pickup was not near as hot as the neck pickup, on both models. Not really usable in its own right. A tone mod (easily done) would be my next move if I still had it. Plan to buy a USA one soon, preferably in trans burgundy as it looks lush in the flesh.
13. My lh500 lives in a cheapo stagg 2u rackbag with mdf boards on the inside. It's easy to carry and plenty enough protection. The ashdown cabs aren't covered, but starting to show their bumps and scrapes. Hoping to get a couple of neo cabs soon and will probably get covers for them.
14. A brand new tribby isn't much less than that. Looks ace with the maple board. I'd be tempted if I hadn't spent so much lately!
15. Sold some pickups and now a bridge to Ian, good guy to deal with and payment was prompt. Thanks again
16.
I thought it was a decent price and the OP obviously seems happy
Thanks mate, and yes, I'm pretty happy. Distance selling regulations apply so it's going back if it's a bag of sh*t. And anything on eBay, gumtree or even here could be stolen property for all we know, not going to lose sleep over it.
17.
£250 is fair on a Mex precision, nothing to shout about, very average basses, so fair price.
Hahahahaha
18. My GAS was under control for 6 whole, mundane months but has returned. That's 3 I've bought in a month, sorry 4 if you count the deko whoops!
19.
If you paid £350, wheres the bargain ?
If you'd seen any of my earlier posts you'd know I didn't pay 350
20. I'll report back with the lowdown on my p. Starting to sh*t myself now that it's an affinity with a decal lol. At least it's easy to check them out. Not easy to make out with the contrast but here's what I picked up... http://webshop.cashconverters.co.uk/auction-item/872373/fender-precision-mexican-bass
21.
I bought a TE combo from my local CC - I'd agreed to buy it at £200 with the assistant before asking (cheekily) "what's your best price?" - "we'll take £160" - I was a bit bemused as I thought he might drop a fiver at best..supposed he dropped the price in expectation of the Chiropractor's bill..
It seems to be real easy to bargain with them, I got £100 off the bass but wondering if I should have tried for more!!!
22.
Oh, the strings round the wrong sides of the tuners - be still, my aggravated OCD!
Oh the pain that nut must be in! That's it though, if the previous owner couldn't fit strings, what else has been fiddled with? Good price on the shergold too, wonder what they'd say if the buyer was to arrange a courier themselves? Hmmm!
23. Whilst enduring a generic romantic comedy starring that Vince Vaughan and someone from friends with the wife last night, I stumbled across the cash converters "webshop", and a cheeky low offer I made for a maple necked white Mexican p has just been accepted. Thanks Vince Vaughan Anyway, anyone else had any bargain success at shop Le cashconverters? Pictures were poor but description says it's in top nick, and their terms and conditions state that I can send it back for a full refund/replacement if the description is inaccurate or item is not as described, ie fake. Worth a punt me thinks. PS there is a spector on there too just now but I don't know enough about them to know if it's a good price, link... http://webshop.cashconverters.co.uk/auction-item/747792/spector-bass-guitar Bass category..... http://webshop.cashconverters.co.uk/auction-items/23/Bass
