Or stop him getting close to you?
-
Actually I suspect that I meant more switches (its a while since I wrote that). But I do have more than 6 blocks in use, in my standard patch (I have 8, although rarely all at the same time) so even if it did have more buttons I couldn't use that. I couldn't use it the way I use it comfortably with less than 6 buttons (plus tuner), so any size bonus of the stomp is cancelled out by the fact I have to have aanother set of pedals, and then connect that and power it.

I guess we all see different things and as you said, you like him. I was never bothered about him either way and I think it was the most lifeless johnny b goode I have seen since there was a group of 16 year olds busking it outside our local record shop a few years ago. And I think if I was on a stage with Imelda May I think I would have probably let her sing! Was it foals the beardy hipster group there? I had heard them before but not been impressed, but they seemed pretty good on that, I would certainly listen again. Didn't like the The violin woman I thought was going to be bad, but I was playing the piano at the time and joined in and it was enjoyable so I guess she was ok! Lewis Capaldi was a bit bank / christmas advert for me. The girl singer group, I didn't like their song much but I loved their actual sound, especially the sound of her strat.

I see the restriction, but still want one on the basis that I am sure it can be ripped apart when the battery goes, but still need to find out if it works on an Ibanez sr bass, as without that it is useless to me!

I think that looks lovely. A tort guide would be a crime against nature, but some people like to see the world burn! Love that neck.

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2019?
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Well, I also bought a guitar this year, a 1978 Gibson the Paul, and for that matter a chapman stick, but I can read the title! -
We do Johnny B Goode occasionally, and we aren't that great a band, but ours is better than that

Excellent, that is what I was looking for but not what I got

Easy to get the notes, but getting the bounce of the video is pretty hard! -

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2019?
Woodinblack replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
I sold it last year, might have even bought it the year before. I bought the SR2605 this year, but I am not sure I have really bonded with it. I certainly don't regret getting it and it is great, but I am still reaching for the 1605 when I go out. I think the problem is that it is more expensive and shiny and I don't want to risk it at some of the dodgy pubs I go to, and scratch it! But most of my purchases this year were not really bass related. Its odd isn't it, they have become hard to get, which is a shame, this is a real winner of a pedal. -

Honestly, when it comes to specific bass gear, I don't think there was really a bad one. Obviously somethings must be worst if something is best, but I can't think what. Best I would think would be the Boss SY-1, although I might need a few weeks, I am currently veering towards the new BC bass cab being the best now, but need to do a full gig with it, which will be the weekend after next (in fact, 3 gigs) -

Thats what I like about it. When I am gigging, I have 6 bright buttons with clear names which are the same as having 6 effects pedals, except that some of them do multiple things. Seeing as we are the most unorganised band on the planet, I don't always know what the next track is until it is about to start (or annoyingly occasionally, just after it has started), I am not sure I could do it with whole patches. -

Teenage kicks. In fact a lot from that period, but teenage kicks is one of those songs that many bands do (many many bands), and any beginning band can easily master, so it is a good start. -
This does not effect function or safety at all...

You can just buy a good condition squier affinity off ebay for £30 and use the body from that instead. -

If there is less cone travel there is less heat, so that isn't going to be an issue -

Woodinblack replied to Woodinblack's topic in Basses For Sale
It wasn't a crackling volume, it was an intermittent tone control because the capacitor had a dry joint, that is now fixed, works like a charm. i notice when doing that there is a very small hole in the pick guard next to the tone control, you can see it on the body pictures when zoomed in, at one point this had a g3k midi pickup on it and the tone control was taken off (possibly relates to the problem above), the hole was a mounting lug for that. -

a shelf is like a treble or bass control, and is flat like a shelf after a certain point. a cut is a continuous slope after a certain point. So taking a low filter at 200 Hz for instance 12dB / Octave low cut: 0db @ 200Hz, -12dB @ 100hz, -24dB @ 50hz, -36db @ 25Hz etc. 12dB low shelf: 0dB @ 200Hz, -12dB @ 100Hz, -12dB @ 50, -12dB @ 25Hz etc. -
Stevie’s 12” FRFR Cab Build Thread (Basschat Cab v3)
Woodinblack replied to funkle's topic in Amps and Cabs
I would have gone for red on mine, like a darker red, but it was out of stock and I couldn't be arsed to wait! I finally got to try it at some sort of volume as I had a practice for the other group. Had a bit of a panic, I plugged it in and played and there was no sound but then i noticed the amp wasn't showing anything going in, for some reason it was a dodgy lead. It is so clear and bright, it was a great sound (even at a lower volume you could hear it much better). I realised I should have set up my older speakers too so I could see what the difference was. But I am pretty impressed. -

Which is the whole point of having your own group isn't it. I am not a fan of Nad but it doesn't make any difference, I am still going to see them anyway, so its not like he is losing out! -
Pretty much. There will always be a really small reading, nothing is ideal, plus some AC voltage might register with the general noise of being on, but any significant (ie, volts rather than fractions of millivolts) is going to melt a speaker eventually Well, I would but I was an electronic engineer for many years, so it might be a bit different! But yes, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Havent given that a try yet. Seeing them next week though - I am assumign without an orchestra! -
The thing that will blow your speaker is a large DC offset which is just putting power into your speaker and burning it out. You can measure that. If it is a solid state amplifier, it doesn't need a speaker connected when you turn it on, so turn it on and measure the DC offset on the speaker terminals. There should be very little or none. Find a little rubbishy speaker - something from on old radio or something, and connect that, at low volume. Does it go bang? As said above, what was the mod and if you were surprised at how good it was, did it really need it?
