I don"t really like playing with a plectrum, but I can do it way faster. Physically my second finger cannot keep up with my first, and to play with a pick you are getting two notes for every one with a finger, so it is always going to be faster for me (talking on one string)

Genesis / Steve Hackett Manchester Fri 24th Sept
Woodinblack replied to 4000's topic in General Discussion
Oh Nad? No I am not a great fan of him, but once the thing is started its ok. Most people I think, but seemingly not Steve Hacket! To be fair his singing isn't that bad Because Phil Collins can't sing the songs any more, and he can't drum. Nad would sound better doing them. I assume that the other two can do it, so the keys and guitars are fine although obviously they were never as good with the guitar as Steve Hacket anyway. And I was given trick of the tail when I was 13 and it is still one of my favourite albums, I know that genesis probably wouldn't do it but just as well, i wouldn't want to hear it butchered. -

bittersweet why? I loved the Hacket shows I have seen, they are really well done. -
Could probably do it with a plectrum but there is no way my fingers move that quick for finger style

KISS kick Dave Lee Roth off the farewell tour

Yes, that would have made more sense if he took his vocal but the band did the other parts. -
KISS kick Dave Lee Roth off the farewell tour

Kiss maybe might not need the money, but Kiss is always about the money. It seems pretty low as their vocals are terrible anyway. But I was wondering why, its not like Daves vocals have got worse since they signed him up. -
Chop the headstock off it will solve the rest!

Ironically, I would rather not see Genesis as they are one of my all-time favourite bands! I was the same with the last Rush tour. -
New Sequential Take 5 portable polyphonic synth

If you search on the web, the link on google to them still says £999 -
I have one of those, and it is quite good, but not a favourite. However, quite small so it fits in the gig back as a spare for those times when the guitarist forgets to bring a strap (which is not as common as you would think)

If the hacket one was rescheduled to the same night as something else a refund should be possible, or you could just ship on to someone else. If I was in that area I would go for it, never been to a bad hacket gig, and given the choice it would be which I would go for! -
Indeed, there are a lot around - I haven't tried them as I have been really happy with the XR, but certainly when it came out there wasn't much around in the same price bracket and it managed to get a good market as the goto mixer for small bands. Ive done a couple of hundred gigs with it and still more than happy in that it hasn't let me down (although had a bit of a panic at one gig when I forgot my iPad - but used mix station on the phone) - familiarity is good.

There are also completely new designs. OK, the Model D they do is a clone of the Moog Model D (but made accessible), but the Poly D, its a logical extension, but not one that Moog did. And although a lot of the synths that they are bringing out now are direct copies of older ones, most of them have not been in production for many years and are very hard to get. And I think the prevelance of the XR18 / X-Air stuff speaks for itself.

Motley crue are bad, but docken are another story. Makes no sense for them to be touring now. And I liked docken. -
If it had been last month, I would have had a clue, but having spent too long in the vaccine and 'kids of today' posts over the last few weeks, I no longer have much faith in humanity.
-
It is - but without labouring the point again, is that it is totally irrelevant what someone else believes is ethical / not ethical / sustainable / environmentally friendly etc, to a person who doesn't want to wear a part of an animal.
-
I am not a fan of vegan cheese, but M&S Plant kitchen not-zarrella - I could live off that.

So we have to keep eating them as otherwise they would die out, and if they died out they wouldn't be there to eat Indeed, one of those pointless arguments. But then my point for that bit was Zoos, and what the point of breeding programs there are. Never got that. Whats the point saving a Grey Rhino* or whatever, if there is no natural habitat where it can live? Not like things are going to get better and one day there will be a habitat for them again! *other endangered species are probably still available

No, I said it was a simple point, whether you wanted it or not. I didn't refer to 'you' are in you, or any other specific person. It wasn't really a debatable thing as it depends entirely on your (as in 'ones') point of view - some people are happy with it, some people are not, and if you are not, all kind of other considerations are irrelevant.
-
That always seemed like a non argument to me. The same as zoos (which I was always against). "We have to keep eating these animals as if we didn't they would die off' - well, fine, let them die off. Its only for our benifit that we want to keep them. If a breed (of anything) is no longer capable of survival without human intervention then it isn't a viable speciies and should be allowed to die out. Who are we keeping them alive for? not for them, its so we feel better about our selves. Take a picture of it, describe it in a book and let it die out. On the subject of 'without a market for meat it would die out' here is something for your enjoyment: https://www.elwooddogmeat.com/

Not sure of your point - as I said, I am not a vegetarian, so I have nothing to defend here. My statement isn't whether something is ethical or good or environmentally friendly or not - especially the latter. If we cared about the environment we would be getting rid of people and maybe using their skin, that would be better. It is purely down to how the person who is buying something feels about it, whether they are happy with it or not.
-
Of course it is. Are you happy wearing the flayed skin of a dead animal around your neck, yes / no.

For completeness on the thread, here is the Denali strap (it also has a plectrum holder at the top)

One of the funny things on the vegan forums and facebook groups. People are constantly complaining that things don't taste quite right, but when they do, everyone is paranoid that it isn't really vegan!
