Tried it on two different basses one active one passive same result. All connections power, lead and there inputs all seem good and solid. However i am using a cheap lead and noticed the plugs on both ends are loose i mean the actually bit that plugs in, not the cover to the wiring. Don't have another lead. Could it be that the lead?. It is terrible tried a back to back comparison with my mates (all same setting) lead and mine sounded like it was missing a load of treble but kinda liked its sound. But having said all that it was fine using that lead before. But will get another one sorted asap anyhow.

My little Hartke a25 practice amp i think is on the way out. To be honest i don't know alot about amps or speakers although i know the basics. The problem is it works fine on occasion but seems to becoming more and more temperamental, what first started happening is the limiter led started working intermittently or not at all, then the limiter didn't seem to work as it should. Now when i turn up the volume after 3 sometimes a little higher im not getting the same volume as i did and it makes a noise like it cuts out for a fraction of a second. So is there anything i can check or have a look at?. Iv'e had a look at the speaker itself it seems ok, it moves ok nothing torn etc. Is there anything i could check in the amp itself?.

Learnt Pump it up (Elvis Costello). Awesome tune one of those i think a bassist should know.

Bit of a newbie question this one. I have some really good days where i can play really well and on other days im so bad, like really bad. Anyone else have these and how can i become more consistent?.

[/quote] Its not the width of the neck as have tried a few different basses now its purely the distance between frets. My hand span is terrible, although i have noticed a slight improvement in how far i can stretch.

Hello everyone. Been lurking for a couple of months and thought i should sign up. Seems like a good forum with good members. I'm new to playing Bass (about 3 months). Bought a cheap 15 quid pre wilkinson Vintage from a mate, that had done the rounds between friends, wasn't in the best of condition and was filthy, so i named it after a girlfriend it reminded me of haha. Bought a cheap Hartke a25 amp locally. Bought a Yamaha rbx 170 a couple of weeks ago. Thinking of buying a shortscale, i struggle as don't have large hands and my fretting hand is lacking in dexterity and coordination. But i can wrestle a tune out. Ive set both of my basses up myself not frightened to get stuck in, i like a medium to high action as i seem to really attack the strings. Maybe one day i will have better technique and be able to play with a low action without to much fret buzz and clank. I find it hard to concentrate and learn from books or tabs so been pretty much learning from videos online, have a few friends who play guitar so had a bit jam with them. I don't have any lofty goals but hoping to be a half decent bass player oneday. Love all kinds of music.
