Twincam

I recently bought a squier vm mustang bass. And I could of easily afforded a fender pawn shop or the reissue. Infact I could of afforded all three if I wanted. I even made a thread about which one I was going to get which I was sure I was going to get the pawn shop model. The day came I had money in the bank. But I just could not justify paying the extra. I've been playing around a year and to me it's a side hobby. The squier meets my requirements and has a great neck. I'm very happy with the squier even though mine arrived with some qc problems little marks etc but it sounded good so got some free goodies out of it. And the marks came off too. However I wish I had got the fender now probably the reissue. Sadly it's more for the name on the neck and it's resale value rather than me thinking it would be that much a better instrument. Although I'm seriously unimpressed with the squires machine heads!!! Well I'm skint now lol so the squier will have to do.

Well just to let you know I've given myself a shake and spent a few hours playing. I made a little tune that I actually really like. And I've discovered I can play some songs without looking at the fret board which I never knew I could do. Also I've convinced a lass I'm dating to buy a guitar lol so that if she learns a little bit we can play together. Now I need to convince someone to buy some drums and there I will of formed my own band lol. So I'm going to try and carry on. And try accept certain things. Thank you all for the time to comment. Ok little more info I have a bit of a OCD thing going on where things have to be perfect all my basses I've ever had normally end up set up the same so you can play them hard without any fret buzz if I hear fret buzz that's it can't play. I recently posted about learning to love fret buzz and set my bass up with a Low action it was easier to play but in the end unless I had my amp up pretty loud I couldn't stand to actually hear the bass buzz so I get frustrated when I can't get a clean tone. Unfortunately my technique is very bad in both hands I'm very very heavy handed. Another unfortunate thing is I have a bit of attention deficit disorder. I get easily distracted and find practicing very draining seriously draining, I've been fairly into my fitness for years and bass playing drains me more than anything else if I learn a song at the end my brain, body and left hand are fried. I will say this I'm happy to say I can almost tune a bass by ear, make my own simple little tunes up, learn simple songs by ear. If I give up I will regret it. So I'm not going to. In fact in a reversal if thinking I might raise some money to buy a mim jazz bass. I play a mustang bass currently and it's awesome but I've noticed shortscales have a few quirks.

I used to jam with friends. But that's not happened for a long time. I've looked for others to play with in the local area and there's pretty much no one around who fancies it. I feel a bit trapped like in a relationship you think if I walk away I will regret it and maybe it will get better. But I might be better off on my own or moving on to something else.

Long post alert! And need to say this. Well I've been learning to play for a year now. And I at first really enjoyed it and up until Xmas I practiced a lot. I love bass from many points of view. However recently and despite buying a new bass too, I've suffered from bass playing melancholy I love looking at the bass but am not In anyway enjoying playing or practicing. I've lately made a few short little bass tunes which is cool I guess and have felt more comfortable playing and made little advances in playing too. Interestingly I've also been not interested in music as I once was. In part I blame this on not being able to give enough dedication, as it's very much a side hobby and I think I would need professional help/lessons to correct my bad technique. I'm competitive and if I don't feel like I'm going to be a certain standard in something then I guess I sack it off. And my expectations in playing are not that high. I don't want to give up. But frankly I don't want to waste my time if I just feel frustrated. I'm also extremely skint (again) and what little cash I would raise would come in handy. I know someone who plays guitar they have for 30 years they spend a lot of time and money on it and frankly he is still rubbish. I don't want to be that guy

I've had one of those shortscale Harley bentons. And for the price there ok. Strings are horrible on them. Finish and fit are passable. I thought the pickups were stronger than the Yamaha rbx 170. Hardware looks junk but works and won't break. Volume and tone controls not great but provide more option than a epiphone eb0. Didn't like the neck to flat and wide. If you wanted to try a shortscale like I did before getting something better I think these are a ok option.

I play shortscale basses and .95 gauge so the strings do tend to move around. So really low action and avoiding fret buzz is certainly more difficult anyhow. One thing I noticed is my fret clank has gone I must be playing lighter already. The only real problem is that to not hear my bass buzzing in itself at all, I have to turn the amp up to a level where the neighbour may not be happy with. Time to invest in headphones.

Yeah the neck dive I think is pretty bad seems worse than a eb0 bass. But the way I play I don't suffer to much anyhow. Unless I'm trying to actually induce it.

I've as an experiment lowered my action. Normally I play with a medium to high action as I normally hate fret buzz, even the slightest. And the fact my right hand loves to really dig in. I've lowered the action were I get a decent amount of fret buzz unplugged, too much for my liking but when amped loud enough not to here the bass itself, it's not to bad. Sounds ok but I'm not sure what a good amount of fret buzz is? Anyhow I'm enjoying playing with a very low action it's much easier and I'm enjoying kinda not caring about getting a clean tone if that makes sense. Anyone else like fret buzz? and is there any vids on YouTube with a good level of fret buzz and too much. I know it's kinda subjective though.

I have a squire vm mustang the tuners are junk! Worst I've ever used. So I want to replace them. Can anyone tell me which tuners are an exact replacement. I don't fancy drilling any new screw holes etc. I have no clue about tuner sizes etc so help me out please.

Ok the marks apart from the little scratch on pick ups I've removed. I've aligned the control nobs and had another play as I had a massive migraine when it first arrived. And wow what a little tone machine. I played a p bass before xmass and the sound is not unlike that classic p bass sound. The tone control works so well. So although I'm not pleased about the scratch or the marks it came with and the misaligned controls I'm really pleased and will keep her. Would of been cool to get squire documentation, leaflets etc stickers even lol. I've gotten nice posters, qc print out, stickers etc with others. Oh and I did take pics so I shall still mail Anderson's in morning like.

Well I'm to late to ring now it seems but will do in the morning. What should I say? As said I'm happy to keep the bass maybe I could get a discount or something ?

Ok so just revived my squier vm mustang. The bass works great and is well setup. However some slight issues. First the pickup is scratched. Back if the neck has a small mark And unless this is a weird squire thing the knobs seem on wrong. Ok finally I got nothing on the box other than the bass. No documentation nothing at all. Seems odd. So what shall I do I'm happy to keep the bass it seems to play very nicely and I can move the knobs and the marks are small but surely I should say something ideas??? The bass was bought new from Anderson's online

Oh I fully expect the squire to be a decent instrument i wasn't able to play it before I ordered but I did research and the vm mustang does get good reviews.

Well I wussed out of buying a pawn shop mustang and went for the squier mustang instead. Although I can afford the fender version I felt after several weeks of bass melancholy and my current level of playing ability, that I couldn't justify the purchase. However there is a little part of me that says I made the wrong choice. Why was it maybe the wrong choice, I don't know maybe it's because I'm not used to doing the sensible thing.

Lovely colour but can't help think that the Harley Benton vintage jazz with ash body and Wilkinson pups is a better buy tho and cheaper even with shipping.Also comes with quality strings too.
