1. I'm no expert but is it definitely the amp? my rig buzzes like hell at home whenever I stand anywhere near the lights.... dodgy house electrics. *edit - oh I see its comming straight from the amp not whats coming out the speakers? In that case it's probably not the lights...
  2. Mrs C and I took my folks to Let it Be this weekend, which is basically a Beatles tribute band gig in a West end theatre, where they run through the various eras, playing a few songs from each . I have to say I quite enjoyed the music. I have never had any interest in the Beatles, I never listen to the radio and have never followed mainstream music, so I was hearing most of the songs for the first time. The early stuff sounded like well crafted pop songs and I really enjoyed the St Pepper bit, some great songs there... You can hear the musicianship in the songwriting and the way the vocal melodies interact with the music makes it all very listenable. The later stuff seemed to sound a bit generic to me, but over all the music held my attention for two and a half hours... can't think of many bands that would do that.
  3.
Just how quick do you need to be to snap one up? Are you sitting on the page pressing F5 for 23 out of 24 hours?
I usually find out about them from this thread. You do have to be pretty quick though...
  4.
that looks great! How much was it again
This particular example came to a wapping £30.48 ...can't complain. I think they are less than £100 at full price and I'd feel I'd got a bargain if I'd paid that.
  5. Thanks gents, its another fine instrument for a ridiculous price...
  6. Another 75 Jazz arrived today. OK first things first... I've come to expect these deckos to be pretty much flawless, my last three even turned up in tune. Out of the box, this one was actually unplayable. back bow in the neck which choked the strings. So I assumed that the truss rod must be knackered... but it wasn't. Took three full turns and I had to lower the saddles about a centimeter afterwards but it now has a fantastic action. Routing is a bit rough around the edges but again... it sounds great.
  7. My PB-20 is stuck in Koln too... it's been over taken by a JB-75 I ordered two days later and that has apperantly been delivered to a random neighbour, so if I can find it it'll be an NBD
  8.
Found some more photos of the Wals lurking on the iPad so here are a few for your delectation... Pro IIE Bass... Playing at church...
That is a beautiful bass... I have Wal envy...
  9. The trouble with going for the hand luggage option is that if they don't let you on your left with having to put it in the hold in a gigbag... You really need to know 100% that its going to be allowed on before you make the decision which case to use.
  10.
...and I'll insure it through my arse too!
I've been struggling to find musical instrument insurance that actually covers me for when I need it, what terms is your arse offering?
  11.
Here´s a picture of my fretless prior to a recording session.
Lovely... MK2 Shedua?
  12.
Thanks, yes indeed. The child of a really nasty chest infection about 10 years ago which laid me up for the best part of a month and some free web-space from my then broadband provider. I thought. "I'm so bored I'll teach myself HTML and how to make a website... now, what could I do a website about? Hmmm... I know!!" Moved it all over to Blogger a few years ago. Glad you enjoy it. Must get around to doing some updates some time.
It's excellent... A real treasure trove of history.
That's just mad... And it's your fault I've just bought a Deko Kahuna uBass clone... Hard not to when you're getting it for £39 delivered. The Aguila strings alone are £25-worth!
That BC deko thread is a dangerous place, I'm serving a self imposed ban from it at the moment, after I ordered the natural version of this jazz as well yesterday . Your right about the strings on those U bass copies, these Jazzes come strung with daddario nickles which are worth half the cost of the bass alone. It's always a bit of a gamble as they are possibly going to be damaged beyond repair when they turn up, but I've only ever had fully playable instruments with slight cosmetic blemishes... or in this case (as with another I got a couple of weeks back) I cannot see for the life of me what is supposed to be wrong with it These basses are obviously not in the same league as top end Fender / Sadowsky or the various super jazzes out there, but they really are perfectly reasonable instruments. We're I looking for a jazz as a gigging instrument I'd be hard pushed to justify the extra cost over these Harley Bentons, unless I was going top end or custom built.
  14.
CamdenRob, I'll be able to row faster with my Pro, though! :-)
We could do the pairs in Rio next year... On a related note. Is the Wal history site yours? It an excellent piece of work, I've enjoyed hours on there.
  15. Yes I must admit my mk1 would come in handy should I ever find myself adrift at sea...
  16. order confirmed... Right thats it... I'm taking a break from this thread before I buy anything else I don't need.
  17.
(lucky, I don't like maple or blocks)
I do... another roll of the dice perhaps

A new Harley Benton "decoration only" 75 J arrived yesterday from everyones favourite German musical instrument monolith... Plays great, sounds great with the Wilkinson pups and looks great... all £32 of it
  19.
Is it lighter than just one of your Wals though?
yes that wasn't the best way to phrase it...
  20.
How heavy is it Rob?
I'll weigh it tonight and report back... I intended to do it last night but forgot. Not heavy though, it's a damn sight lighter than both my Wals.
  21.
those JB-75s look great with a black scratch, wish mine had one instead of tort! (never been a fan of tort) would a standard jazz plate fit anyone know?
Yes there is tort and there is cheap tort... I've never been a fan but sometimes It can look good on a vintage sunburst J or P. However this monstrosity from a recent PJ4 Deko I got is an abomination...
  22. I used to play in a similar project and alternated between a P with flats with the tone rolled all the way off and a fretless (which is what I use for that sort of stuff now).
  23. Few pics of the new 75 J... Unfortunately I missed out on the natural 75 J last night but I did order up a cheeky p bass... It was rude not to really it was less than £20 This bass sounds, looks and plays fantastic... I reckon if you reshaped the headstock and wrote Sadowsky on it you'd fool more people than not.
  24. Pics tomorrow but my new HB deko jazz is another step up from my previous dekos and they were good... This is not just a good deko... It is also not just a good cheap bass... With Wilkinson pickups and daddario strings as standard this is actually a good bass... In fact it's better than that. It is an excellent bass.
