Dave was helpful, fast and efficient. Thanks!

Hello, just wondering have I completely mispriced this, has the shop I consulted about value just got it completely wrong? I'd appreciate any views, particularly from anyone who might want it, but at a lower price. I'm perfectly open to the idea that I've just got it wrong. There's been a deathly silence on this thread, which suggests I might. Thanks, Matthew

I play a 4003 with my fingers. Either I play on the neck side of the pick up cover and the thumb flies free, or I play between the pick up cover and the bridge and rest my thumb on the pick up cover. If you do decide to go for one I have one for sale here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=43797 All the best, Matthew

Hello, I am selling a 1995 Rickenbacker 4003S in Mapleglo. It's in super condition and has clearly been well looked after, and sounds fantastic. It is all original apart from the neck pickup, which was replaced with a Seymour Duncan by a previous owner, who also painted the scratch plate and truss rod cover red. There are a couple of tiny marks here and there as you'd expect from a 13 year old instrument, but they are very hard to see and don't even come up in pictures. There are a couple around the jack socket, whose shiny metal is a little cracked, but I've included a close up picture so that you can see even here they're negligible. I had it valued by Strung Out Guitars in Glasgow [they do Franz Ferdinand's intsruments and the like], who said it should get £1300. I'm not entirely convinced in the current climate, so am looking for £1100. Do let me know by PM, though, if you think the pricing is way out, I'm not an expert by any means. This was bought in New York a couple of years ago and is lovely, but I just don't think I'm a Ric person. Thanks for your time, do get in touch with any questions you might have, and I have a few feedbacks here you can check out, yours, Matthew

Hello, keen to revisit Cliff Burton's wah-tastic bass solos I have dug out my ancient, Italian-made Crybaby wah pedal. Only trouble is, two wires are flapping about unconnected and I've no idea where they should be connected. And I know nothing about pedals and how they're put together. I was hoping someone here might have a working wah wah pedal that they could take a picture of the insides of, and post them here. Then perhaps I could try and guess where the wires go. I'd really appreciate it, thanks, Matthew

I adore Steve Harris and more or less learned to play to Maiden records as a spotty youth. I use TI flats on a late 70s/early 80s Precision in the ridiculous anthemic cock rock band I play in [we dress up as Vikings, that's all you really need to know] and I get an absolutely cracking sound out of them. I fully intend to leave them on for 15 years, no 'arry style nightly change for me. To get a rock/Harris clunk you have to use the EQ fairly hard, but once you've found the sound you need you can rely on it almost forever because the strings don't change their sound every month like rounds do. So you might have to work harder to get your sound, but once you've got it it's yours. Last gig we did I was playing into my own Hartke bass head with the valve being a little bit overdriven and into a borrowed Ampeg cab and I've never had closer to exactly the sound I wanted, it was great.

Neil, I had a Stingray that had a neck nearly identical to that that was from the same date range the other guys are talking about. It was a 1989, hope that helps, Matthew
Hi Neil, From the photo. it looks like the 'ray you tried had a birdseye maple neck on it. I have one which I believe dates to early '90's (1991 I think). I'm not sure how long these were made for. Here's a piccie of mine just to confirm. Cheers, Jim http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o294/fl...riganddevil.jpg
Just concluded a deal on a cab with Rumour6 (Andy) and he was a top chap to deal with. An unforeseen issue arose and he dealt with it like a real gent, couldn't have been more helpful or co-operative. I'd buy from him any time, Matthew

This advice has all been brilliant. Thanks so much for your time. I take on board all the advice querying why I'd want to do it at all. So I'll probably just get the valve-y preamp tone and, as suggested, do the eq afterwards, on an old outboard eq box I've got. Thanks everyone for your help, Matthew

Hello, I wonder if someone might be able to help. I bought an amp head that doesn't have a DI - a Hartke HA2000. There are times when I want to record its sound [on a Protools rig on a PC] but don't want to wake up the neighbours downstairs by mic-ing a cab. Sadly the effects send loop is pre-eq, so is no good for getting the full sound I want. Is there anything I can do to use the sound from the speaker outs? Would plugging those into a recording rig just blow it up? Is there anything I can run it through first to take the power out of it to get a usable sound? The Hartke has a valve pre-amp but a solid state power amp. Any tips gratefully received, thanks, Matthew

My ridiculous cock-rock anthem band [we dress up as vikings - really] had our first gig in months on Saturday. Pokey room above a pub, drummer too drunk to remember what song it was and had to be babysat by me, playing through a tiny combo and couldn't hear a note, but - it was by far our best ever gig. I'm pretty sure we were musically, ah, less than perfect, but the place was rammed and they went mental. And - we had our first ever crowd surfers! It was truly a proud moment, I had to share. M

Just finished a trade with Steve and it went perfectly. He was a great help to me in knowing how to pack the bass at my end and everything happened how and when it should have. Smashing

Hey Keir, thanks for the nice comments. It's a cracker alright, I just feel like a change to something a little less powerful and ballsy really. The Jazz I got is a thing of wonder and beauty, I couldn't be happier, but I did the dumbass thing and bought it before selling the Stingray, so the Jazz might have to go if the Stingray doesn't shift. The Jazz is lovely though: clear, even, woody sound. I put some Thomasik flatwounds on it and it sounds like honey. Sigh. Let me know if you come up with that plan! But thanks for the nice comments, cheers, Mathew
Hi Matthew,we corresponded by email about this bass a few weeks back.I still dont have the cash for it but it is THE StingRay I want. And you being so close too. I'm going to need to hatch a plan and quick. :brow: best of luck with the sale.its a beauty! Keir btw how you getting on with the MIA Jazz RI?
Edit 1/10.08: This has now been traded for Steve's lovely Black Precision. Which means I might be selling a v63 Rickenbacker shortly if anyone's interested. Ah, the big bass shuffle, it's very complicated. ____ Hello, I'm looking to move on my lovely 1989 Stingray. It's a translucent blueburst wiith a rosewood fingerboard and that powerful trademark Stingray sound. I've owned this since new. The serial indicates it's 1989 but I bought it new in about 1991 from Sound Control in Dunfermline, so it must have been lying in the store room for a couple of years. It's had some gigging in that time, but also quite a few years resting in its case. It's in excellent condition, but not mint - there are a couple of nicks to the lacquer and some wear on the back, but nothing through to the wood, plus a small bit of strapwear that is through to the wood [see pics] - just what you'd expect from normal use. I've tried to get close up body pics but any marks are really too small for the camera to pick up. I know this is a less than optimal time to be selling a 'ray, but I'm looking for £750-800 because of its age and a finish that I believe is relatively unusual [that's my understanding anyway - if not do let me know]. I know that's not what more recent ones have been going for on here but I thought I'd put it up and see if it just happened to be exactly what someone has been longing for. Comes with hard case [not MM one, I feel cheated now, I never got one], will post if buyer covers the cost. I'm in Glasgow, and anyone is welcome to come and try it out. Thanks for your time, Matthew
