1.
I presume that is what the scroll is for?
Is that what it's called? "hat hook" seemed a bit too simple... ;¬)
2. Couple of me demonstrating my appalling left-hand shape (self taught I'm afraid!) and poor right-hand position. But in the second one you can just see the edge of my flat cap that the bass was wearing as it got a bit too hot :¬) Cap \
3. Cheers Geoff, this is a much better use of my time than arguing bicycle dynamics :¬) Well produced and a nice relaxed style. Thank you.
4. Always loved the tone of a DB but kind-of-accidentally became a singer-songwriter and stuck with the guitar for years. After a brief dalliance with a cello (stopped that when I finally found a cellist who could improvise!) I managed to pick up a cheap gear4music bass. We have a really relaxed open session at a pub not far from me and after about 6 months I took it down there to jam along. I've absolutely loved it since picking it up. The cello is a lovely complement to an acoustic guitar and I still work with the cellist but for sheer fun I don't think the DB can be beaten. Plus it's cool as hell ;~)
5. Oh yes, and I'm off to pull up some Blind Pilots stuff on youtube!
6. Finally had chance to have a proper look at that video Henry, that's close to what I'm thinking but being as I'm just looking at taking it to the pub and back I don't think I need it to be so "engineered". I think I've worked out the basic principles of it but I need to take a wander round B&Q and work out a couple of details.
7. Cheers Henry I'll have a proper look at that over the weekend. I've got an idea in my head to turn my hardcase into a trailer (I never use the thing because it's so big) but this might well help.
8. The other thing to think about with band names is what people are going to call you when they're feeling critical. I still remember from my school days a triple bill of bands called The Hellborn, the Honey Buzzards and Weird Creation being refered to in the gig review in the paper as The Stillborn, the Runny Custards and Weird Excretion. It wasn't a good review...
9. I was going to suggest a Beta 87b but it's a bit late now.
10. Why not just take the 1/4" output from the Art and run that into a normal floor tuner? Take it out of the loop and run it as a stub?
11. I play a variety of instruments (to a variety of different standards) and I find that a) it helps me get a view of what the different mindsets need to be but it stops me getting bored. Whether it's guitar, double bass, drums, keyboard, banjo or whatever, there's always something I want to play :~)
12. i've just bought a yamaha thr10 (i'm a guitarist too) and it's surprisingly good with the double bass as well. Very versatile bit of kit with user presets for sounds, aux in, good selection of on board effects.
13. That looks like a very nicely thought through piece of kit. Certainly more professional than the bike trailer idea I'm working on... ;~)
14. I have one of these: http://www.westfieldguitar.co.uk/westfield/prod_details.asp?ID=455 It works on most of my instruments but struggles with the double bass, I have you use the harmonics for the fat strings.
15. Another +1 for what Dave said. It all varies sometimes it's words first, sometimes it's melody, sometimes it's a concept. It's been a while since I've written anything in conjunction with anyone though.
16. Another vote for Sting / Copeland but also Rob Hirst and Bones Hillman from Midnight Oil
17.
CAPTION?
well is THIS jazz hands then?
18.
CAPTION ?
No Dougall, it's not a tiny man with a fiddle it's a double bass that's far away.
19. Yeah crosswinds are a concern, well, ish. Windy days are walking days basically - I wouldn't even try it if there was more than a ghost of a breeze out there :¬) In the words of Men at Work, "I may be an idiot but indeed I am no fool."
20. usual disclaimer about not being a doctor... I've done a fair bit of damage to myself on rugby and football pitches over the years and generally tendons are buggers. Frankly sometimes I'd rather have broken a bone. Not that I'm trying to put a downer on anything! Generally keep it moving but without applying force is what I've been told, but get it properly checked out is always good advice.
21. I just had the Art hanging around because I have a beta 87 mic that needs it, I was fairly happy with the tone given it's all just feeding of a cheap G4M bass
22.
CAPTION?
Ah, so this is what a 4/4 size looks like.
23. I've got one of these and then straight into the PA, seems to work ok:
24. Hmmm, the obviousness is a good point. I regularly cycle home after a few shandies but obviously don't attract any attention - the DB will be a bit different. Just not being a lazy b**tard and walking the extra mile would be the sensible thing really. Though I am curious about turning the hard case into a trailer now I've started thinking about it.
25. Cheers gjones, that was pretty much what I was thinking. Soft case and stick it on my back. Though the trailer suggestion has made me wonder if I could convert my hard case into a trailer itself.
