1. A cellist friend of mine uses a trailer for her cello but there's no way it's big enough for a 3/4 bass. Might just have a ride around the block and see how the wind catches it!
2. Serious question, has anyone tried this? I play in a pub on monday nights and that's an easy 15 minute walk but I also play in another pub that's a couple of miles away (and finishes later) so I was wondering about cycling down and thus being able to have a couple of cheeky shandies. Anyone been as foolish as I'm thinking of trying to be? ;¬)
3. Meh, I've got about 16 of them but there's very few of those that I'd rate as personal favourites.
4. Being a 50% singer-songwriter-guitarist type I tend to play and do lead or backing vocals, but I really, really need to know one half of the equation by heart. Mind you, I've only been playing bass for a couple of years so what I'm doing is probably a lot more simple than most of you folks anyway.
5.
I'd be hard pressed to say that one hand does less than the other. Just my opinion, though.
Hard to argue with that! :¬)
6. From a guitarists perspective, as mentioned above, it makes sense to have your less dextrous hand on the fretboard because that's doing the simpler task - it's on / off basically. The note is either fretted or not. The more dextrous hand then has the challenge of creating the "feel" of the piece. Without that you might as well get a robot to play it. 7.
Or a live, naked girl.
Much better idea!
8. Remember seeing him on telly years ago but haven't been able to remember who it was. Cheers!
9. Glad I read this thread yesterday, was doing my first plugged in session and a quick phase switch cut out the gremlins early on. Thanks
10. well, filed and fitted. Don't have an amp for it at home but it seems to give a reasonable sound into cubase so off to an open-mic tonight to plug it in for the first time.
11. Loving the idea of the drinks cabinet inside. Not sure I've used the bass as anything other than a hat stand, but it does occur to me, appropos of nothing, that the hard case would be quite a convenient thing to transport a dead body in. Just sayin'...
12. Good stuff, having read a couple more threads here I'm actually going to have a play with one I've pulled out of an old mandolin I have. Will see how that works once I've filed it down and fitted it properly. Cheers
13. Thanks, had one of those on the watch list already :¬) How's it working out for you?
14. Dumb people asking questions? That's me to the core. Cheers for the welcome folks.
15.
I have ordered a cheap ebay one just to get me started, hopefully something good will crop up at the right price soon. It is a wing type one so I will try and get it snug then, await many questions......
Hi Pete, out of curiosity, what did you go with for your cheap e-bay option? Just in the same boat myself :¬) Cheers
16. Hi folks, first post on basschat. Been a singer-songwriter for years but got the opportunity to pick up a double bass for a very nice price a couple of years ago and I've been playing in an open session in a bar in York for the last 18 months. Still very much finding my way with the switch from 6 strings to focus and the shift to rhythm being the thing. Expect dumb questions...
