  1. To be honest, I'm not too fussed about rushing it anyway, so I'll live with it. I'm still waiting on my Bass Direct order too, since 30th April, purely down to the Hipshot bridge I've ordered coming from the US...fair to say the speed of this build won't be setting any records! πŸ™„πŸ˜‚
  2. New decals have arrived, three to be safe...only thing is, the word "Crafted" is in the wrong font πŸ™ˆ... R&F's mistake, not mine... Edit: Closed for holiday until 09th August as well, πŸ™„
  3. Used an old 5.5mm steel drill bit, managed to tease the ferrules back out and reflushed them just using a hammer to tap them and a cloth to protect the wood. Far, far, far happier with the way they look... It's the little things in life...! πŸ˜‚
  4. The voice of reason...yeah, that's what I'll probably do...I'm gonna be keeping it anyway, so it's going to spend it's life either staring at my tubby belly or the wall it's hung up on...! πŸ‘
  5. It's the A (slightly) and G (more) strings that are a tad low. That's exactly what I'm debating with myself - and frankly is it worth the hassle?! I'm was thinking about maybe getting an old drill bit and seeing if there was any give between the hole through the body and the hole in the ferrule, if it could be chapped out the slightest wee touch to reflush.
  6. Got there...! I'll know next time to get these in place before I do anything with the body...two might have went slightly too far in to be honest, but I'll try sand the wood flush around those.
  7. Decided I wasn't happy with the fretboard finish, despite rubbing down between coats, I noticed there was build up of oil at some of the frets. Sanded it down yesterday and gave it one decent oil coat, making sure the frets were clean after. Finished the fingerboard with three coats of nitro today. Basically as it stands just now, the back of the neck is Tru-Oil finish and the fingerboard and headstock (to take decal application) is nitro lacquer. Two sealer coats on the body, not yet started with the wet sand grain fill.
  8. Here's a novice query, how tight should string ferrules be? I ordered a set machined to suit my Guitarbuild 54p body, but they don't fit by hand pressure only, don't appear to be anywhere near fitting. I've no doubt they'd go in if they were forced, but I was expecting the fit to be somewhat less tight than they are. There only appears to be 0.5mm difference from tape measuring - which I appreciate isn't the most accurate for these small sizes! I'm obviously not keen on getting the 'adjusting tool' into action...😬 Edit: Appreciate also the novice error was not supplying my own ferrules and sending them to GB to size accordingly...also appreciate perhaps would have been more ideal fitting these prior to putting a seal coat of Tru-Oil on...like I said, I'm a novice!
  9. Raging with myself...!! So, as I anticipated, I have just made a right royal @rse of trying to apply my first ever headstock decal. I guess my 'room temperature' water and Rothko & Frost's are somewhat different as the backing wasn't for coming away as easily as it shows in that YouTube video above. That's Β£12 down the drain...need to reorder...😑😑 Edit: Just bought another THREE at Β£7.99 each...just in case...πŸ™„πŸ˜¬
  10. Guitarbuild walnut body arrived today...already tested the colour test strip, only one coat of Tru-Oil, but it'll darken down with a few coats. Neck was as tight as a gnats chuff so had to sand down the edges of the neck very slightly to get it to fit...its just tight now, rather than mega tight...😁 Currently in process of nitro lacquering the face of the headstock pre-decal applying. And looking at this, I'm already convinced, no pickguard...chrome hardware and I might even go to the lengths of a chrome tugbar to finish the look. Last pic, I've applied one coat of Tru-Oil to seal, do another tomorrow before starting the wet sand grain filling.
  11. Finally got started with this a week passed on Friday. It's an Allparts TBMO neck, raw maple. Started by rubbing down the rough edges of the frets and neck using 600 grit wet/dry before getting going with the Tru-Oil. In total, generally two each day, there's TWENTY very fine coats on the neck up to today...each rubbed down very finely using a 6000 3M Micro-Mesh pad in between. It's already got a nice sheen to it, but I'm going to try polish it up more before I apply the clear nitro lacquer to the headstock (front only) prior to tackling the decal.
  12. Sorry to hear that, as others say, sounds like you're in tune with the drummer and its definitely worth a phone call or meet up at least to see if there's anything there to build on. I joined a three piece a number of years ago, both guys had been with each other for 10 years at least, and I quickly build up a strong playing relationship as well as a general rapport with the drummer. In not too dissimilar circumstances to your story above, the singer soon proved himself to be an egotistical rusty bullethole...and it's safe to say I don't work well in dictator-led projects...so we both ended up bolting and have been in every band with each other since. Point being, for all you know the drummer might not be overly happy himself with the way things have panned out and might be happy to resurrect what you had not so long ago.
  13. Awesome, yeah seen a few YouTube videos, might need to slow the speed down, try get it nailed. The album version is amazing, but the live version is nuts!

  15. Yip, unless I'm missing it somewhere? πŸ€”
  16. Hi, Sorry of this is the wrong forum, but I was wondering if any of the lovely, helpful Basschat brethren would be able to point me in the direction of where I could find the Bass Tab for The Who's "Dreaming from the Waist"? I know its contained within one of The Who's bass books*, but I was hoping not to have to fork out over Β£20 if possible if it was online somewhere, as everything else in the book I've seen, I've managed to get elsewhere. *Edit: which is now out of print and you can't get anywhere anyway! Thanks! πŸ‘
  17. John Entwistle for me. Trying to emulate his bass lines in a Who covers band is as joyful and rewarding as it is frustrating and, at times, morale crunching...just as you feel you have achieved an 'acceptable' replicate of his bass line, you stumble across an even more complex and simply awe inspiring live version which sets the learning curve back to zero! He's the ultimate for me.
  18. Not tonight, but tomorrow... Wee Sunday afternoon gig coming up...my back has been killing me since last weekend too, when I pulled a muscle, I'm taking the Lakland Jazz as it'll be lighter a load to take... Maybe need to bathe in Voltarol gel before it... Either that, or it'll be Val Doonican on bass...πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‚
  19. Purely because they were on when I was channel hopping last night. I get that with other bands, same for The Cure who I love and looking forward to seeing tonight, they've had umpteen line up changes. I guess I'm looking at it from point of view that other bands actually change and evolve official line ups as necessary, they don't effectively have a studio line up and a live touring line up, as it looks like The Killers are currently deploying. Don't get me wrong, it didn't keep me awake last night! πŸ˜‚πŸ‘
  20. The bassist, I believe wanted a break from touring. The guitarist then said same from what can gather, but since he stopped, has written, released and is/has toured his solo project. At what point does "The Killers" as a band therefore become "Brandon Flowers" as a solo artist? Edit: Just reading up, bassist wasn't enjoying touring and reading between the lines, there does sound like there may be a level of mental fatigue, perhaps bordering on depression. The guitarist appears to have thrown the toys out, unhappy his songs constantly being overlooked, therefore embarked on his own solo project. Says he hasn't officially quit the band, but has no intention touring with them again - how does that work?
  21. I certainly can't say I'm the biggest fan of The Killers, but when only half the band can be bothered to show up to headline the so called best festival in the world, it's a bit stinky poo on (i) the band not showing the commitment to the gig, (ii) the festival organisers actually booking them, knowing that only 50% of the official band members are going to bother their derriΓ¨re actually turning up, and (iii) the fans who paid good money to see them. I know the guitarist and bassist pulled out a while back of this tour for a break, but I think it's poor that they are still touring as The Killers...one out, fair enough, I'd say that could be accepted, but when 50% of the band need a break...at what point do they officially become Brandon Flower's backing band, albeit they may be in all but name already...? I'm itching to see The Cure tomorrow night, and I'm seeing them live in Glasgow in August, but if Reeves Gabrels and Simon Gallup are replaced by two other, perhaps-super-talented-non-entities, I can say for sure, I will be pretty whizzed to be honest. #ItsBrandonsBandAndYourNoPlayinAnd πŸ€”πŸ™„
