1. +1 for Roqsolid. I got mine's from amplifiercoversonline.com or whatever it is & it's a perfect fit & kittenproof! Called me up the day after I ordered online to check that it was the correct cover & to confirm what colour piping I wanted (Yellow of course, ) Quick summary: Double lined, double stitched, good fit & even the handles line up perfectly.
2. Easy answer. F** the valve amp idea & get something like a Markbass or GenzBenz amp & then get a valve compressor pedal. Light, more reliable & more durable. Although I would have a shot of some valve stuff as it does have a nice warm tone & try & compare. Horses for courses stuff OK, not such an easy answer, :brow:
3. Like is already said, use either a splitter of some sort (stereo fx pedal etc) or go from a line or DI out of either combo to the input of other one. That is if you wanna try the 2 together & see how they sound. I would either sell the SWR & try get as much as poss as it's fairly new & get the ext cab for the Marshall, or keep the SWR & still buy the ext cab. Those Marshall combos seem to be very good for the money. Haven't tried one but nearly went for the 4x10 combo (the weight put me off) as they're cheap as hell.
4.
I second the Markbass 2x10 combo. Was a little unsure at first that it could deliver as backline on the bigger stages but it's working out fine.
+ again on the CMD 102P. I was using it last night & still can't get over how it pumps out the really low frequencies
5. I saw these advertised many months ago on various websites at silly low prices with none in stock, so it makes me wonder if there's been major issues with quality that they've not been able to release them or someone's made an arse of pricing em & can't afford to produce em. I would have liked to have compared it with other gear too. Happy with what I have tho
6. Just a quick note kinda 1/2 relating to what you're doing. Download Audacity, it's free. I messed with Garageband for ages & it's good for everything except the final mix. Export each track individually as wav files & make a new project to mix in Audacity, it keeps the sparkle there. Go & hear what I did at www.myspace.com/frigorificoband
7. Rocking Rooster was selling Roland combo's dead cheap & was I was gonna get one before I got the MB. About £400 for the 15 & £450 for the 210. Should fit your bill. If you want ampeg, they can be had for your sort of money, you can get a 4x10 & b2re for about £600 but IMO they're kaka.
8. I've done a couple of gigs with a 30 watt Vox Venue combo with a car sub in it. They was fairly small gigs of about 50 folk & I only had to compete with a semi acoustic guitar/singer and a mandolin and coped surprisingly well.
9. cmd102p is a good choice. Can add an extra cab for large gigs with no pa support if needed. I looked at tonnes of combos & amp/cabs before getting mine & feel I made the right choice.
10. I bought 2 sets of Peacock Blue DR strings last December & they look great when you first put em on & then after a week they look scabby. I have went thru both sets of strings & both G's snapped in no time (about 3 months max outta each) which is pretty pants as I usually only change my strings every 6-12 months. They did sound good when I first put em on but dulled after a few weeks. I'm back with uncle Ernie. Don't bother with the not so good doctor!
11. You could try DIing to a power amp and firing it thru a decent cab. You should be able to get good stuff for less than a grand. Was that said already but with different words?
12. I tried the 210 combo in sound control about 1/2 a year or so ago & liked it. Rocking Rooster was doing them & the ext cab really cheap & was tempted to get but ended up with the MB 210 combo (which is better in my opinion). But yes, the Roland is a very good combo albeit heavy.

black finger

Quite like the sound of that micro synth. Anyone know how it would compare to the Akai SB1 or the Moogerfooger Bass Murf? I would like a good synth pedal for use in a couple of the songs we do.

black finger

Hi all, I had the privilage of using an EH White finger compressor whilst recording a couple of weeeks ago & since been looking to get one but have since seen there's a black finger which has 2 valves. Has anyone tried one of these & are they any good? Also inerested to hear anything about the EH bass micro synth? Cheeers, G
15. Couldn't advise on pedals as I only have a Zoom thing that makes a good tuner. I'm gonna hit Denmark St next weekend & see if I can find something good (maybe try a Prunes & Custard or a MoogerFooger). For amps, well I have a Markbass CMD 102P which is their 2x10 combo which I bought without even trying MB stuff & verrrrrrry happy with it. I would give this a try as it will give you that clear treble heavy sound you seek as well as deep bass to enjoy. But get down to Denmark St or any decent music shop & try some stuff out. If weight isn't an issue, then try GK & Ampeg. Ashdown is a bit marmite but they look great (that's probably a marmite opinion also). I done some studio work with this last week & just DI'd straight out the back, lovely recording!
16. Like is said above, try putting a different source into the combo & also try a different lead between bass & amp. If you can get hold of another amp & cab then try running a cab from the combo without the speakers on the combo plugged in & vice versa if possible. Process of elimination.
17. I have the SR1000 which I bought way back in 1990 & at the time was looking at a Status bass, but after having a shot on the Ibby, that was me. Now has more chips than Mac D's, but sounds amazing & compared to a lot of quality basses that I have played, I wouldn't part with it. Will get a pic up later.
18. I had electrostatic type noise when I first got mine. Cleaned the pickups & shield plates & all was well. As Basszilla says, "try another bass" as it may be the problem.
19. I've got one of their "Not so good" basses, which I bought for my first bass. I might try & get it back & get some pics of it. I did annihilate it's paintwork & did my own on it when I was a teenager (20 odd years ago) & the neck is a bit of a plank as far as I recall. Sh!t, I'm gonna get this back with me (I still own it) & give it a review, it's got me reminiscing! G
20. I know I already let you know what I set mine at, but it's good to see what other folk set their amps at & try em out. Obviously it is gonna sound different with each bass & how the instrument is set. Here's my settings at present for all to see: mid-bass knob turned back very slightly from flat & the rest of the eq on flat and set the two filters to about 1 (if you count the dots 0-6) Input gain set at about 2 & master out set to whatever is needed, which has never been above 2 yet!
21. still can't help but recommend the markbass cmd 102p. I've had mine a few mumphs now & it still amazes me how something so small & light can make such a big sound. I was looking at the GK combos also & reacon you can't go wrong there either.
22. +1 for the baby blue. One of the nicest sounding, tastiest looking little combos out there. I had looked at this for myself but the 120 watts just wouldn't cut it in my rock band without PA support. Markbass combos are defo worth a look. Small, light & loud & sound brilliant too. I got the 210 but it isn't exactly small, but then it's about the same size as 1/2 a 1/2 stack! & it weighs in at 20 kgs
23. Keep looking. I got a zoom 708II off ebay for less than £30. No psu & needed the power & input sockets resoldered but psu's can be had for way less than a tenner.
24. I got my cover from amplifiercoversonline. They're on ebay. Fits my CMD102P like a glove, excellent service & guarantee and you can get yellow piping.
