1.
Hey Owen those Yita music bows that I got recommended on here are really nice and mine came pretty quick too, I think wood of any type might be left in favour of carbon if its less than a few hundred quid
+1 I've got a Yita bow too. Quite often use it instead of my £2500 bow!
2. A few more pics of this beautiful bass. Again, the only reason I am selling is that I am playing either fretless or my $$s so it is such a shame for this beauty to be sitting there unplayed.
3.
To be fair though, that's teenagers for you! I'm sure they have much the same attitude to their other subjects! When I was a kid I was most disappointed that I couldn't play like Hendrix without learning the guitar and being dedicated enough to put the time in, ha ha. It was only when my testosterone levels sorted themselves out that I was able to concentrate on anything other than girls and komungo. Great post though, agree with you wholeheartedly.
Yep, I think I had just had enough of teenagers for the day, I love my job but sometimes.................. I hate saying "in my day" as I know I was no different but completely agree with the statement "But I think I'd agree if someone said that with today's technology has come impatience along with dwindling ability and desire to puzzle-solve." Frustrating to know that todays technology is wasted on some and I really do mean only some teens, but it shouldn't be wasted by ANY teens. Knowing how to post on Facebook or nick other peoples pics off Google is apparently all there is to being computer literate these days according to some I teach. Having now had several cups of tea and calmed down enough (don't worry, Hubby had the full rant before I even got on here) it is so good to read so many peeps on here do want new and are looking to the future. All is good in the world really.
4.
As a keyboardist myself, I think I can imagine several reasons why that could be. I have no definite answers, but here are some thoughts, some of them also mentioned by others: 1) IME, and in my seriously-not-humble opinion, in pop and rock music, most keyboard players can hardly play their instruments, as documented by almost every song shown on TV. They show some insecure, unsteady, stumbling and nervous playing that leaves me with the question whatever they did in the studio or whether they did anything there at all. 2) Many good keyboardists have learnt to express a personal view on the music. and may tend to bring that musical view with its timing complexities to bands as well. 3) Related to 2), they may be used to playing solo, and may have difficulties adapting to the demands of playing together. BTW, not one of my own teachers pre college ever taught me to accompany other players or singers, and I had to learn the hard way. These days, things hopefully are better. best, bert
Agree with you there Bert completely. Must add, certainly in our school we try and get the keyboard / piano players to accompany at any given opportunity - saves me doing it! LOL
5. A rockbass fretless s/h is always a good bet as Warwick fretless basses (including rockbass) all have ebony fingerboards.
6.
nice post Rachel, although i do feel the need to point out that music does not necessarily have to have popularity as it's destination point. .. in fact that is what depresses me about (some) music.
Thank You and yes, I completely agree and maybe "popular" was not the right choice of words for me. Must add, love the sig, yes quite excited, Winter is coming.
7. Firstly, a really interesting question and apologies as I suspect this may turn into a rant. Nothing personal against the OP or any other points of view, it just ties in so nicely with a few different things that have happened / said to me today. As a music teacher (classroom), a classically trained musician but also someone who loves all types of music and currently playing in a swing / cover band I suppose I am maybe coming at this from a slightly different perspective. I do find this discussion by musicians very intersting yet quite depressing at the same time. If Bach had said he was only going to perform / listen to / compose like Wiiliam Byrd................................. If Mozart had said he wasn't going to bother with anything new as Bach had already done it.................... If Beethoven had said that he couldn't do anything new because Mozart was better than him............................ If Tchaikovsky etc.etc skip 100 years If The Beatles had said they weren't going to do anything new because Rock n Roll had been done If Pink Floyd had said they could never be as popular as The Beatles.......................... If Mark King / Flea / Victor Wooten (replace with your own fav) had said well there's no point in getting good because they could never be as popular as Paul McCartney................. etc. etc. etc. Hopefully my point has been made, using very quickly thought out examples. My main point is, WE are the current generation / era / period of musicians and if we decide that everything has already been done well that's it then, evolution is over. Yes, there are only so many notes and many things have been done to regurgitate "old" music but you think of the progress / inventions / technological advances that have been made in the last fifty / sixty years. Don't get me wrong, I am not a huge fan of the music (that I have heard) that has been released in the last decade or so but we are looking at a very small portion of musical evolution and I just hope (I am fairly sure it won't happen) that in a hundred years time the next musical era doesn't look back at this time and call us the "unimaginative" or the "uninspiring" or the "well they had it all but decided not to bother" era. Okay, now I should explain the rant. Firstly, GCSE music pupils who are dragging their heels over composition coursework because it's too hard / they can't think of anything / the software is too difficult to use, yet expect to continue their musical studies onto A level and beyond. I encourage the kids to work to their strengths so no, I'm not trying to make the next Jimi Hendrix write a string quartet but apparently it is too much hard work to pick up a guiter and strum some chords or to much like hard work to actually research the style or genre of music they have decided to compose in. Secondly, a maths teacher who's reply to me about a rehearsal (at lunchtime) wasn't important as "music is just a hobby" and was quite suprised when I told him that with that answer he had just given up all rights to listen to any music as it's "just a hobby". Lastly, a pupil (private lessons) who got quite upset because I wouldn't give him anything new to learn as he had done no practise at all this week (even though he claimed to have at the start of the lesson) and couldn't understand why I said to him he had just wasted his parents (hard earned) money. Should add, this is someone who wants to gone on to music college and wants to be a pro. ............. and breathe. As mentioned, I don't want to upset anyone just seemed an appropriate rant for today. Cheers, Rachel
8. Really enjoyed that, very interesting to watch (and listen to). Thanks for posting.

13.
Rachel The Bryant and Martin, not surprisingly, are two different animals. The Martin doesn't have a lot of sustain and would probably benefit from a new setup. It does, though, have amazing clarity and strength right up the G string. You don't find that on every bass, even some expensive ones. Acoustically it's so-so but when amped with an Underwood it really comes alive. So much so that I've had several compliments on my sound. The finish is disappointingly unimpressive - shame on you George. I use this bass in a loud Dixieland all-star band where I get 50% of my work. My other work is playing in smaller groups, generally playing modern/mainstream jazz. I use the Bryant for this where its subtleties come to the fore. It has a beautiful sustain but was initially difficult to amp. I think the Underwood could have been ill-fitting and I struggled with the sound for quite a while. I've sorted it now and since fitting an Ehrlund to bring out the attack I'm very happy with it. It's a nice little bass and I love it. If the house were to burn down that's the bass I'd save! Hope this helps a bit. Remember, the Martin is their entry level model and I have no doubt that they have some really good ones in the higher price bracket.
Thanks for a lovely little review, an interesting read. Have to agree, I love my solo Bryant, small yet a lovely sound. I had a couple of teething problems but hats off to Paul Bryant, he went above and beyond the call of duty and I have been 100% happy ever since. Funny you mention George, I baby sat him once (a very long time ago!) LOL
14. Hi Bassace, out of curiousity, how would you compare the Bryant compared t the Martin? Just being nosey really as I have a Bryant and did consider a Martin as Tom used to teach me but as I am not playing full time these days I couldn't justify the price difference. Cheers, Rachel
15. Thanks Marcus. Still looking for a new home......................
16. Thanks for your reply Mr Jones, good to hear you were happy with them.
17. Hi all, I am looking to get a fretless neck to put on my Squier p/j. I have spotted a seller on Ebay, Custom World Guitar Parts who also have a website and are based in Holland. Basically what I'm asking is - 1. Has anybody ever bought anything from these guys, any feedback? 2. Has anybody bought a neck from them (even better this Maple fretless) and again, any feedback? I know I could go for a Mighty Mite or other Fender licenced neck but I'm looking at the cheaper options first. Mods, apologies if I'm in the wrong section.
18. Just came across this (mainly ) interesting thread. To be honest reading this is the first time I have ever thought about my choice of instruments because I'm a girl! I have played many, many basses over the years and never thought, oooh I don't like this because I can't play it, normally, just like the blokes, I think, I don't like this because it - sounds crap / looks awful / plays badly etc. I do admit that colour / looks are important to me (not really just a female thing) but when I admit that I love playing my pink glittery Daisy Rock because of the comments I suppose that is a girly thing. My first choice instruments though are definitely Warwicks, Corvette $$s and Thumb, all a joy to play. Weight wise I do prefer a heavy instrument but always use a wide strap to compensate this. Playing style I do have the bass quite high (80s teenager) which is great, right boob on top of bass, pint on top of that! (j/k) Basses in arsenal to give an idea: Warwick - 2 x $$s & Thumb Squier Precision Daisy Rock - Heartbreaker (short scale) & Rock Candy Ibanez SR400qm Spear S1 Harper 6 string fretless
19. Just checking you have seen my Thumb for sale. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/199588-fs-beautiful-2006-warwick-thumb-bo-4-string-german-made/
20.
...tell me there is a mirror behind that purple heart bass !
LOL! Not 2 basses though, a cello has sneaked in there.
21.
...as in?
LOL!
