1. Sell it and buy a Stingray HH! I have one and I can get a very convincing P sound out of it, and a pretty close Rickenbacker sound out of it as well as the signature MM sound. Definitely not a on trick pony
2. Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string + cash adjustment?
3.
Did he play on the latest record?
He didn't play on the last 2 records... however he did play on an album called 'Eros' which the band recorded just before the accident. The band decided to hold off releasing it until Chi was better and recorded a new album with a different bass player instead. Hopefully Chi's last record with the Deftones will now be released sometime in the not too distant future as a tribute to him.
4. Funny thing, the 'why aren't basschatters donating more?' and 'why so many user with 0 posts?' etc... I was under the impression, via word of mouth, that Basschat was the place to come for friendly 'basschat', however in the short time I've been here I have witnessed some 'ugly' threads where people have virtually lynched people, for instance the thread where the MM guy didn't receive the bass he wanted in the time frame he wanted. Online bullying you could call it! Infact didn't the OP cancel his membership for a while? I would use correct paragraphs here but the simple art of pressing the RETURN key doesn't actually work I actually asked for some advice about selling a bass yesterday, which was met with sarcasm by one 'established' poster, presumably because my post count is under 1000. And a new 1 month old post about aggressive behaviour from members... hmmm! Anyway, since I'm still a newbie despite trying to contribute to a "tough audience" because I don't have all day everyday to mess about on the internet, is there any chance you could delete my account and when I have stuff to sell, I'll do it locally or via ebay instead of this 'site'? Ta...p.s. why does the return key not work on a forum using it's users to generate revenue?
5.
That was the first 3 $$ 5 strings that I could find on a quick search.
Ok mate thanks for your help. As I say I looked through google shopping results for "Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string swamp ash" and I saw several that looked identical to mine at totally varying prices. Just thought I'd pop on here for some friendly advice is all. Cheers
6. Hi. I bought a Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string bass in London about 6 or 7 years ago. I'm interested in selling it at a guitar show I'm attending on Sunday, or failing that, eBay, as I want a USA Fender Jazz Deluxe 5 string. Thing is I can't remember how much I paid for the bass and can't find any of the finance paperwork for it. I know it was over £1000. Haha how bad is this?! The serial number is K-138592-07, so the website tells me it is made from swamp ash with an ovangkol neck and a black nirvana oil finish, however I don't know where it was made as there is nothing marked on the guitar. I've looked for the model online, but prices vary drastically, from £6/700 upto £3000. Does anyone know what this bass would cost new, so I can work out what I may be able to get for it to help purchase said Fender? Any help would be appreciated x
7.
The most dread in the least notes is pretty much done with the Black Sabbath riff. Too much else is the same with added notes.
Well then you could say Mozart wrote the heaviest riff ever, and Black Sabbath electrified it. I would find that easier to swallow. I really do understand the influence Sabbath had on the metal genre, and how much they influenced pretty much every metal band going today... I just find saying 'Iron Man is the heaviest riff ever' is an easy answer, with added cool points because you're being retro!
8. Don't get me wrong, I love Sabbath... I was brought up as a young kid in a house listening to Deep Purple, Queen, Thin Lizzy, Bowie, Sabbath etc... but HEAVIEST RIFF EVER??? Ok... 'most iconic metal riff ever' or 'most influential metal riff ever'... but folk saying things like Zeppelin and Sabbath have recorded 'the heaviest riff ever'... reeks of arrogance and ignorance to me I'm afraid. It's a predictable answer and before I even looked at the thread I guessed some folk would say these things! The only surprise to me is that someone hasn't named a Beatles song as 'Heaviest Riff EVER' yet, which I was honestly expecting.
9. Although it may be 'cool' to name riffs written in the 1970's etc as 'the heaviest riff ever', I find it eludes from an honest answer to the question... unless people haven't heard rock/metal beyond 1980. When there are/were bands like Strapping Young Lad, Pantera, Morbid Angel, The Dillinger Escape Plan etc kicking out ridiculously heavy riffs over and over... saying Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath for cool points is just silly... in my humble opinion x http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm-eXzMdfro
10. Oh my word that's beautiful! Love the colour and the block inlays!
11.
BC Rich Mockingbird (budget range model) Weak pick-ups, uninspiring tone, terrible neck dive
+1, except mine was an Ironbird. Cost about £3/400 from Windows in Newcastle about 15 years ago. Passive P style pickups. The only description I have for the sound is "cheap and nasty"... also probably the worst ergonomics and balance on any instrument ever created. I didn't even think it was worthy of passing on to anybody else so I threw it in a skip.
12. Posting this on behalf of a friend Versatile drummer required for new, originals-playing rock/folk band in the Newcastle / Durham area. Influences are broad but we love anything elemental & soulful, from the dynamics of Zeppelin, the atmosphere of Floyd, the grandeur of Queen to the beauty of Buckley. To get an idea of some recent material listen to these tracks: http://tinyurl.com/ake4djr We're looking for someone with an open mind, who wants to get together and have some fun developing the sound - playing, writing, recording and gigging - and we'll see where it leads us. Gotta be someone mature (between 30-40?), backing vocals (maybe), willing and able to practice at least once a week, maybe twice to get us up and running and up for gigging locally and nationally as the opportunity arises. We have a dedicated practice space. Contact Ben: brotherbrother(at)mail.com ... or pm me on here. Ta x
13. Doesn't the whole objects being called 'she' come from the fact we have a Queen or something? I'm sure I heard once thats why ships are called she. My basses are she's like.
14. If it has short screws AND long screws be sure to put them in the right holes... unlike the "luthier" I gave my fretless to, to put dots on the neck edge! He put the screws in wrong holes (long screw in short hole) and the screw came up through the fingerboard! B@stard!
15.
Other than that mask and the camera effect half way through, I really enjoyed that (cheers) and quite fancy having a go myself for a laugh.
Excellent! Learn it then show me
16. Hello! Ok guys I stumbled across this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETRp5GkpnLU&ytsession=O0uggm0XoTuN86K3x5YhdelmQFZ9ZLM5h27OoDHWSmFHMlmuQRy5dxxIlfSZ86nB61ybDSbIrXRGVlzz8U3rfMmEnJYV-MMCezGrxS_flJRx4IblNeNT7LLKCrMpZF0xWCjYIZZm3grqt9WPaoVWrlggV3HEbQK9jGNPPiGjsLBvjpUlQq1_bJ0SCMHTSlPGqKXqYejeGTqPWieeaj5arPVqfqsSHnsy2kxh7_GbX-E I have heard Stu Hamm do this live, but upon seeing this video I decided I really want to give this sort of thing a go.. and before anyone asks "why? Because it sounds horrible!"... I don't care!!! I'll never play this sort of stuff in a band situation... this will purely be for my own noodling around and entertainment as well as the feeling I've reached another milestone on my instrument etc. I've been playing bass on and off for 16 years but am a complete novice really when it comes to every aspect of bass so forgive my ignorance. What I want to know is - 1, I thought my action was low but when I tap it feels like I'm pushing the string down for ages to get the note and it doesn't resonate very well. I play a 5 string and I reckon the B string is about 5mm above the fretboard at 24th fret and on the G string it's about 3mm. Does it have to be much lower than this, or do I just not have the required finger strength and technique yet? 2, On the subject of action... do I need to use a seperate bass for this sort of playing? Or if an even lower action is required, will standard playing still be ok? i.e. no fret buzz when playing regular stuff further down the neck etc? 3, Do I need high response pickups and/or specific strings like steels? I will probs be practicing this stuff on a Warwick Corvette $$ 5... are the standard pickups ok on that bass or do i have to replace them with something more powerfull? Erm, that's kind of it really, unless anyone has any experience of tapping and can offer advice on techniques/exercises etc. I'm sorry for questions which will probs make most of you laugh.. I'm not trolling or taking the p!ss, I really am that un-clued up. Massive cheers in advance! Mark x
17. I'm terrible for air bass and air drumming while I'm out running... I try and keep it under wraps as best I can but it just escapes. Then I saw I had a kindred spirit when this appeared on facebook via The Dillinger Escape Plan - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKrg_ei96xk The band were so stoked by it that they are turning it into a proper 5k run, where people turn up and run while playing air drum/guitar. I'm not as into it as this guy like
18.
A Warwick Corvette $$ 5 would be my #1 choice but i havent seen one for sale on here yet
Have you thought about the Warwick Rockbass option? http://www.thomann.de/gb/warwick_rb_corvette5_bk_ofc_2010.htm?gclid=CNj2mLLq9bQCFe3KtAodRxMA3w
19.
I still love Ray 5s they just get the job done, I always feel the same about Lakland 55-02s too
My Ray 5 is my dream bass and the bass I currently play daily... but the Warwick is a very close 2nd for completely different reasons... for metal the Ray just doesn't have enough sting IMO. The Corvette has a brighter tone that can be eq'd to sound harsh if desired! Of course it's all down to opinion... Anything shortlisted by the OP would more than get the job done!
20. If you can find a 2nd hand 5-string Corvette $$ for 800 notes then you'll have something perfect for metal than can also be tamed to suit other genres. I have one, and a 5 string Stingray and several other 5's, and if I had a metal gig lined up, the Warwick would be my 'go to' bass! Edited for dodgy spelling.
21.
JLS sum up everything wrong with music at the moment.
There you are mate, fixed it for ya
