  1. I apparently 'played' at my wedding but I was totally wasted - not a good idea! We had a band in who were happy for me and the lads in the band to get up and do a couple of numbers later on which was a laugh. We did the same thing for our singers wedding. If you are pretty well know for being in a band and all your family are there (who dont see you gig elsewhere) they are going to pressure you into playing at some point even just one or two songs. I would not consider stepping in for a couple showing off, people will enjoy it and as I said probably accept it. A full gig may be a little different. With the band there happy for us to use their gear etc for a couple of songs made it much more relaxing and not too much for people. There will be loads of people wanting to speak to you and the mrs (especially evening guests) have a good think about the time out it will take setting up etc if you want to do a big set. Most of all just enjoy it - and dont get too smashed!
  2. Yeah the general public love love Jovi - singers don't! Ha!
  3. The following are essential (some of them unfortunately ) for our wedding sets:- Sex on Fire - KOL Mr Brightside - The Killers Dakota - Sterophonics Sweet Child of Mine - GnR All Right Now - Free All of the above will pack the dance floor out for almost all age groups - apart from the usual Buddy Holly & Elvis brigade. Town Called Malice, Long Train Running, Billie Jean and Superstition always go down well and are fun on bass. Hardest thing to do is play songs you don't really like but look like you do. it is very important though as th audience enjoy it more if you are. We use the pub gigs to let loose on stuff we love, zeppelin, Hendrix, cream, AC/DC etc but through a few wedding tunes in incase of potential wedding bookings.

  9. Hi Peter, Is it a MIM model? I am really looking to trade locally in person if possible as its the best for both parties. Regards, Russ
  10. New trade option added and for sale price.
  11. I finally have the bug for P's and this jazz is not going to see the light of day now. Bass is in good/very good condition. It has a couple of light scratches to the rear (laccur only) and 2 small dints at the bottom/side. I can email additional photo's and will take some further pics in natural light when I have chance. Plays really well, neck nice and straight. It is all original. I have had it circa 5 years (bought from a session played in perfect condition) and I have gigged it throughout my ownership. Comes with a fitted fender case which shows signs of wear from moving the guitar to and from gigs but seals well. I will throw in matching fender strap. I am looking for a Fender USA P Bass or a good Fender CIJ P Bass. I am not precious about a bit of wear and tear providing it is only superficial. Trade Value in the region of £600 would sell for around £550. 17. Just traded a Jazz for P bass. Good deal all round. Real nice bloke with a great taste in bass guitars. Deal with him with 100% confidence!
  18. I have only ever had to use it twice, this was due to string snap in the middle of a set and due to the electrics failing (input), but I always take a spare. The idea of playing someone's wedding and having to stop during a set and re-string or even play the rest of a set without a bass is not an option. I would not expect bride and groom's friends and family to be looking to book us for anything else. Worst case with amp fail you could go through the PA to see the rest of the gig through, albeit quieter than through a bass amp. The spare can be mega cheap but as long as it does enough to get you through the gig it is worth it. You never need get it out its case until the emergency happens.

  20. Hi Guys, My VM is not getting any use. In excellent condition and has had minimal use. 4 string natural/blond finish with black scratch. Looking for a P Bass with maple fretboard ideally. Not too concerned about external wear as long as it sounds nice - and works. No DIY paint jobs though. Trade value around £200 inc a tweed hard case. £180 for guitar only. A bit of cash available if necessary for trade Collection/exchange within North East only.
  21. Thanks Guys, I will keep an eye out. Being very green on this I was always obsessed by fender but an hour looking through this site indicates that there are similar, if not better, better propositions, in respect of the standard models, to the fender jazz. I will check out lakelands and sandberg and then see how far my trades get me. Regards.
