1. Some very informative replies and I've taken them on board. I wasn't suggesting I was going to do it just pondering on the idea and, since the wealth of knowledge around these ere parts is vast I thought I'd offer up the idea as a muse... Maybe saving a deposit which I guess will be 30-40% then offering my bass up for sale + build time = probably not much saving to be done. If I had 2.5k in my pocket (not that I'd probably spend that much) I'd be torn between a Shuker custom (I have a Shuker horn bass atm.. This is one I'd be offering up) or a GB Spitfire. (I have a GB IV circa 1998 and it still beats anything I play) There are pros and cons to most decisions in life.... Better buy a bigger piggy bank...
2. Glad I am on the right wave length. In terms off cutting the card up.. I am pretty self disciplined but just to ensure payments can't be made. Even though the card will be kept in bits at home whilst it's active. I get the point of saving.. However in this current economic climate I'm saving for things such as a deposit on a house and the like. Just recently got promoted and now on a 12 month intensive management training. Things beforehand hand were as many people can appreciated.. Tough.. It's not a massive increase in wage but it's allowed me to start saving for mine and my partners future. However I wish to reward myself with something tangible and which gives me contemptment and 60-70 quid a month is easily doable on top of what I am already saving for. I've saved and have 3-4k of bass gear. However that money is technically 10years old as I've never lost any money from selling (you win on some and loose on others) nor have I put a single extra penny in. Added to this I'll be shifting one my basses probably along the line once the selling market picks up. This will then go straight into the repayments. Plus having a credit card would be good for my credit rating ... Obviously if I'm a good customer.. Hehe
3. I know this might sound daft but In theory...... Could I make a largest purchase on a 0% on purchases credit card.. You can get 0% deals upto 27months though typically 12-18months. A month before the 0% ends couldn't I just do a balance transfer to a new credit card with 0% on balance transfers.. If this period was say for 12months couldn't I then repeat the process? Transfer balance to a new credit card. As long as I cut up each new card so no spending occurs it would be a relatively cheap way to buy new gear. A new bass costing around 2500 for example could be had for very little a month... Thing is as I've always been careful with what little I've had I've never used a credit card before... So not sure if what I've proposed is legit. Hmmmmmmm Gas makes you think of random things...
4. Thank you. I kinda sorted the levels so when played back through my floors stands the bass sits in the mix as well as I can get it with a phone and a eq app. Needs more treb and mid Thought with my first video I'd keep it simple.. Lost my mojo for a while just rekindling atm
5. I hope this works. Thought I'd just do a random video playing along to KT Tunstall. Using my GB and my newly acquired Marshall MB30 amp. Was pretty nervous about posting here... Please forgive any mistakes... Ben
6. To my horror I picked up my GB which has a stacked mid / bass. And the 'mid' knob fell off... Put it back on got out my Allen key.. The grub screws gone.!!! Checked the floor but I frickin hoovered last night. Anyone know where I can get replacements Or does someone have some lying that I can fling a few quid plus postage to via PayPal.? Help My knob (for a potentiometer) has fallen off....
7. Although I'm not a fan of the looks or the chunky neck.. I do think they sit fantastically well in the mix Saw a band a month or so ago. Bassist using a black grabber.. Sound rich and defined... Has a lot of bang for your buck to commend it.
8.
Not really, I do like the duck egg blue gb spitfires but nah.
And that is all the bass anyone could ever want. But if your a fan or 2band eqs the GBs power is totally the opposite end of the spectrum. I own a GB IV pre spitfire.. And it's a Jack of all trades but also a master at the same time.
9.
Blue Monday - New Order.
That was going to be my input... I reckon just 2 bars of this is enough.. If not 1 to guess the track
10. Upon looking on Amazon at leads I came across this fetching number... http://www.amazon.co...ds=guitar+cable Modern Materials Huh...??... Though I do believe they have got the colour incorrect in this ad That could be misLEADing hehe
11. you know it makes sense.. Hehe
12. On the topic of exposed stringers. If a neck through was constructed of flamed maple and a lovely padauk or something similar then I see no reason why this shouldn't be on show. And yes Jon can make a bass however you want. In this instance like already mentioned this is someone else 'want' list.. Realised. I still like it though.. Dare I say once it's fully finished and the hardware is on it'll look a lot better than it already does .. We will come back and judge again.
13. A Shuker shootout?? I'm sure mine will be beaten but I still love it to bits Less so than the one I stupidly sold Idiot! Still trying to track it down to no avail
14. Indeed I was thinking along the lines of; something you'd buy for the Ash body and some hardware bits to build a budget jazz with basschat bargains Hehe
15. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STELLAH-SJB-800-JAZZ-BASS-GUITAR-ASH-DEEP-FINISH-ZOOM-B2-1U-BASS-PEDAL-BUNDLE-/181154924759?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a2dacc8d7 Never heard of them.. On the surface looks pretty decent but what do I know Anyone any info?
16. Well I wasn't expecting that kind of reaction. I get every point that has been made. I am glad we live in a world of variety... Happy to say I like it...
17. Spied this on Jons stock section I am quite taken a back.. A stunning and elegant piece of craftsmanship Hope we get to see the finished article. http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/stock.html
18. I tried and I failed.. Karl you are also a gent and I hope it moves for you soon.
19. The fretboard is a stunning piece of wood A very smart looking bass I'd say
20. Lol... That made me chuckle and after a 5am start at work and 11 hours shift I needed that Don't know if your interested in a trade. PM me for details if you like
21. I am so tempted to make a trade offer but my other half might have something to say about it. Fits your trade bill perfectly... Hmmmmmmmmm
22. I can't tell the difference..for me through body make changing strings quicker as you don't have to worry about the ball end coming out the saddle. But apart from that.. I think it looks cooler somehow??
23. My first bass was a Ibanez Sound gear. That was eons ago. Gave it to a friend 10 years ago. Still going strong So my money is on the Ibanez..
24. Still can't believe this is still for sale. My original series 2 Shuker was one of the first built using the series 2 shape . very comfortable and a complete tone monster. When having mine built a similar type of buckeye was offered. Looked absolutely stunning... Somebody will be getting an amazing piece of Jons work. Sunday bump
25. Rock solid build quality here as well.. The anti scuff anti scratch coating on the cabs is still standing up to odd attack from my kitties now and again. My fafner amp had a few crackly pots after not being used for about 6 months... A quick spray with some contact cleaner on the pots sorted that out. But even with top notch build quality and qc there can always be a bad one. EBS guys are very helpful so maybe fling an email there way if you haven't already done so.
