Sorry, but I don't agree - Dick looks like a Dick and I prefer the look of the other band where you can at least have a game of darts if the music's boring Just kidding - no offence meant to Dick, I'm sure he's a lovely boy.

I only tried rounds once - didn't really like them - felt funny and ruff.... I won't give them another go Until I have to next time I try a new bass - because they all come with rounds

Rotosound flats are the most round alike sounding IME.

Mine is 9.5 lbs and I think the average is about 9. I'm sure you will like the CV - I have 6 Jazz basses and the CV is the favourite of everyone who has played them all, from old codgers to young bucks. Another great budget bass is the Farida range that Dawsons sell, they are made in the same factory as the CVs and their quality is on a par with much more expensive instruments.

It's not a question of what pick ups will work well with this (or any) bass. It's a question of what pick ups will suit you and we are all different in our tonal preferences. There is nothing wrong with the stock pick ups and I wouldn't consider changing them before you've played the bass at a few gigs, never mind before you've even laid hands on it. String choice and your fingers will have a much greater effect on the tone than the pick ups. You really need to know exactly what is wrong with the tone before you try fixing it, otherwise you are just stabbing in the dark. Wait until you've got the bass, set it up to suit you, play it a lot and see how you feel then.

I have one of these and it is a great bass, way better than the Mex Jazz I also had. The best part is the neck, which is as close to a 60s Fender as I have played. The electrics are fine IME, with no need to upgrade (unlike the MIM Fender). The pick ups are ok and on a par with the MIM Fender, but they are not as powerful as my '63 Fender and not as flexible. You need to play close to them or the sound weakens and they don't have the authority of a US Fender. But they still sound fine and a good player will work within their limits and have no problem. Replacing pick ups is probably the biggest upgrade you could do, but it's risky and I would stick with the originals before spending money that may end in disappointment. The tuners are fine. I don't play anything like him, my style is reggae and soul music, for which the Farida is perfect (with a change to flatwounds). I bought a Farida Jazz blind on the strength of that review, not really knowing what to expect and I am genuinely blown away. It easily compares to basses costing far more and it just exudes quality. If it said Lakland (or similar) on the headstock and was priced at £700, it would be perfectly acceptable. I sold my Mexican Fender because this put it to shame and it's better than my Squier CV, which is made in the same factory and is a lovely bass with a gorgeous neck, but the pick ups on the Farida are more powerful and the whole thing feels more solid. The truss rod is adjusted at the heel and the neck is very straight with perfect intonation and excellent tonal balance across the strings. If I was closer I would buy that Farida for £80 (with gig bag and fx box) - you can't really go wrong at that price. But I wouldn't buy it blind just in case there's a major problem with no return option.

I think blind tests where the reviewer doesn't know the make or value of the instrument would be a great idea, if you can find someone brave enough to do it - maybe someone who actually is blind. As soon as anyone sees the name on the headstock and the price tag, it colours their view and it would be very interesting to see what happens without that bias.

But then I've got 4 nice Jazz basses You're not a twit - Fodera/Farida makes no difference unless you're a rich snob and the Farida is a fine instrument (if a bit on the heavy side).

The neck is superb and better than many Fender ones I've played. Perfect intonation, no dead spots, fast and smooth, with vintage size frets.
