  1. I know someone that tried BFMs approach and was very underwhelmed. I suspect they arrived too early as with DSP you could iron out most of the problems, but then are you solving problems that do not exist with other drivers?
  2. The cabs that started the thread were tge HD12s and on paper they were no better than the ART Equivalent. In my opinion it was the sound guy but others may disagree.
  3. Faital Pro’s FE range of drivers is not really good enough for bass drivers IMHO. @Phil Starris right about Piezo tweeters however Motorola, the inventors have convinced everyone that you only need a resistor in series to crossover. Not true, the resistor protects the Piezo but does little to the response. To successfully use a Piezo you do have to use a traditional crossover which does take many of their perceived benefits away. In addition the small round one, as shown in the pictures above are only good above 4KHz, way past where most LF drivers start beaming. This makes it very difficult to get a decent dispersion and the dip, off axis, is right in the area that the ears are most sensitive to. more piezo information here https://www.grc.com/acoustics/CTS_Piezo_Tweeter_AppNote.pdf
  4. To be fair that is a £500 microphone and should sound better. The SM58 was a revelation when it came out but other makes caught up years ago, I was working on a show that the BBC were covering, unusually the BBC had not brought the right mix of mics. For FoH we were supplied with a box full of dynamic mics and the SM58s were front and centre. The BBC man sorted to the back of the box where the "also ran" mics were, the "disposable" ones. out of the box he took a Behringer XM8500, muttering about them being much easier to EQ. The SM58 was inferior to the Sennheiser dynamics at the time but were way cooler, the Sennheisers looked more like an ice lolly than a mic. More modern mics are better than the SM58, mics from Shure, Sennheiser, AKG, Sontronics and SE (I have to admit I have never heard or tried the SEs). However Like the Precision and the Strat, the SM58 is iconic and as such
  5. The original Fane Crescendo had an aluminium dust cap that supposedly extended its frequency range and empirically did sound great to my young and untrained ears. AFAIK, theee were the first 12s to reach 100w power handling with and claimed 99dB efficiency. The problem? The aluminium dust cap would crack although a dab of epoxy resin sorted that mechanically although goodness knows what it did to the response. I know that @Phil Starrhad some back in the day.
  6. I bought a Mesa Subway D800 S/H on the Basschat marketplace. I will do a NAD in the next few days.
  7. Me too but NAD put paid to that.
  8. That was one of my worries.
  9. Good luck and keep us informed.
  10. We had this over July/Aug/Sept often two per weekend. Now nothing since 15th November to Feb 9th.
  11. Has anyone used these in anger? Of course it is not as good as using audio cable but I suspect it would suffice in many applications. Thomann Cat Snake
  12. I have a new amp incoming but this thing has been bulletproof. If I don’t sell it and can manage financially, I may keep it.
  13. I did think about adding condenser but you are still the exception for vocal mics on stage.
  14. I agree but for us weekend warriors, £3K vs £30? In saying that I progamme mine so rarely that I have to re-learn it. Also the firts PARs I boughtb were a new model but the protocol had changed from the old model but they had included the protocol document for the old model. I wasted hours...
  15. The BUMP button usually appears at the top after 3 (I think its 3) days.
  16. I would profess to be a lighting genius but trying to programme a DMX system can be challenging. I bought one of these cheap DMX controllers HERE. It is a real learning curve and the one thing you soon learn is that DMX Is not standard. Even within different PAR cans, the commands are different. You can resolve this using different addresses but be prepared to spend some time perfecting things.
  17. We have had the discussion on here about what mics we use/prefer, but what do the other members of your ensemble use? It is multi choice so you can vote for both.
  18. It has been a thing at the cheaper end of the market, paying lip service to the higher frequencies. Shame on Eich for saving money this way although they are not alone. It is one of the reasons that boutique makers like Greenboy, LFSys, and others exist, because the usual suspects play fast and loose with the top end. SEarch on here or on T*lkbass for Markbass combos and the issues with their top ends. If the best you can do is a tweeter and capacitor, do not bother.
  19. Yes you need to be careful here. Amplifiers have limits to the size of capacitive load and you could cause your amp to shut down. This is true of Class D amps but may class A/B amps have trouble with capacitive loads.
  20. I don't want this to descend into a fanboy flame war but as the Barefaced battalions are already firing a lo-fi barrage........I had the 12" Monaco and now have the 10" Monza, they all think we are nuts but I agree. The Monza is a tad down on the Monaco for sensitivity so I would consider a second to be sure but one Monaco, absolutely. On a sensible note, it's hard to be sure without knowing how loud the rest of the band are. Talk to Alex at Barefaced, talk to our own @stevie about what you need, but have all the details ready when you do. We are all biased, but of course the Barefaced boys are more biased than me 🤣
  21. Sorry for the delay in my reply but, if anyone wants these cables, I can get them as I have a trade account with Sommer, however they are almost €12 before VAT and shipment and the extra customs and handling charges that good old Brexit has resulted in. ( I was looking at retail price, I can sell it at £7/metre). So you are sailing close to £16 per metre plus connectors and connection charges.
  22. Probably just a resistor in line, standard fare to limit current and reduce RF interference. It will do flip all to limit loudness.
  23. in a past life we bought and modified TVs for use on Aircraft. One day the rep came in a told us that a new model was due. Wjat changes we asked? "no headphone socket" . The socket apparently cost 50p but the TV was £5 more expensive once it got to retail! You also have to realise that such tiny boxes cannot use speakons without sacrificing a large-ish amount of real estate.
  24. The cost of a jack plug, pennies, a speakon, £s and once you go add manufacturer markup, distributor markup and retailer markup, the speakon could cost several £s more. There is no safety reason that you cannot use a jack at these power (actually voltage) levels. I would always advise against it but who the funk listens to me?
  25. Where do you put the paper, under the bridge? Sorry that would have been Flea.
