I have had the privilege of conducting a sort of 3rd-party ABC test on a MarkBass, OTB, and Eden. This was when I was playing guitar alongside andyonbass, and he used them on 3 consecutive gigs. I can't 100% remember the models, except the OTB was definitely the 500W, and I think the MarkBass was a Little Mark. Anyway, the only one that didn't sound good in a band context was the Eden - it just sounded muddy to me. Well that's my 2p worth...

SOLD: Ashdown ABM-115-300 bass speaker cab £130

The body on my MIJ Squier Silver Series Jazz is well beaten-up - I think the previous owner was some kind of teenaged numpty. At some point I may be moving it on, or I might just sell the body and build the rest onto a new and nicer body. If that happens I'll let you know!

Got my (used) Compact last Friday - very pleased indeed. Decided to amend my BF order to a Midget on the grounds of maximum flexibility, and the extreme unlikelihood of me ever needing to fire up 2 Compacts at once!

This speaker was the original fitment in my Ashdown ABM-C115-500 combo. It went all silent on a gig, so I immediately ordered another speaker from Ashdown at a cost of £100. In the meantime I took this one out and found that one of the little braided leads, that run from the voice coil to the solder tags, had come adrift. I soldered it back on and it was fine. I have kept it as a spare until now, as I have sold my ABM rig. I am looking for £55 delivered in UK. EDIT - forgot to mention - 8 ohm impedance - cheers tommorichards!

Now that I have my BF Compact I can safely offer for sale this Ashdown speaker cabinet. It is loaded with its original blue cone 15in 300W speaker. Connection is via parallelled 1/4in jack sockets. Despite having done over 200 gigs, it has no known issues and is in good nick, as I always used a home-made cardboard cover on it. Dimensions are 487mmH x 609mmW x 335mmD. As such it is the perfect partner to the original ABM 500-watt combo, such as this one that I have for sale. It is also a near perfect match to some of the current Trace Elliot combos, which have a footprint of 615mmW x 335mmD - in other words, such TE combos would overhang this cab by a barely detectable 3mm (less than 1/8in) on each side. Please note however that later Ashdown cabs are 420mm deep, so could not sit on top of this cab. It would be uneconomical to ship this item, so this is cash on collection. You are welcome to bring along your bass and/or amp head or combo to try out the cab, or try it with my kit. Yours for £130 ono.

Never EVER let audience members get up to sing/play. You can't win. If they are bad they make you look bad. If they are good the audience will want to keep them up there, and the venue/client will wonder why they are paying your band when this person can do better for free! Exception: live band karaoke.

I use the full size TC Polytune, but in 'Stream' display mode where the moving lines of dots slow down as you approach pitch. TBH the Polyphonic tuning mode is only useful for very out-of-tune strings, which you can probably hear anyway.

Cheltenham bassist wanted for ska-funk band

Don't forget your shirt this time Jay! -
Just bought a Speakon cable via eBay, didn't know the seller was obbm until andyonbass told me. This cable widdles all over the other cables available on eBay, and what is more, does so from a great height!

Just bought a Barefaced Compact from Rob, very happy with it. Straightforward guy, took the time to show me his Gibson basses. And a cat lover so can't be bad!

If you have high-current devices being switched on, all plugged into the same socket as your amp, you can get a phenomenon known as 'brown-out' (cue the usual hilarity) where the mains voltage sags for a second or so. This can cause weird things to happen (such as digital kit resetting itself to default mode), but there should be no permanent damage. It used to happen to my guitar synth (cue more hilarity) when the singer switched all the stage light on using his foot on the rocker switch of a 4-way cable - very annoying!
