1. Welcome Rob fellow Ibanez nut, don't be afraid to fire off questions to folk here, but I've no idea about re-builds etc so I'll just stick to the hello's.
2.
Cheers Gary! Aye, I really should've done it properly long ago, mate!
Orite Allen, Nice collection you have there. Where about do you use the SR506 in Maiden Scotland?
3. Sold my Jaydee supernatural to Craig and he trusted me with his cash while he went away on business so I waited a week to send the guitar (his choice) Top dude and thouroughly good chap!
4. Hey welcome fellow Rush fan! Tons of stuff for sale in the threads here and try out some free you tube bass lessons to get you going. stu Hamm does some good begginer vids.
5. Not really for me but have a bumpedy bump bump on me!
6. Garry Moore once said 'if you walk into the room where your guitar is and don't pick it up or don't think to pick it up then maybe it's not for you' Luckily my bass stand is next to the pc and i've always got it on when i'm sat at the desk, comes in handy when I'm thinking of stuff to write on here!
7. Welcome skinny dude, this site is bigger than i could ever imagine so you've definately come to the right place if you want opinions and information.
8.
Sounds similar to a dep I did with a function big band where we had to play some "music while they ate" unexpectedly. At least one of the songs played with the keys calling chords from a Buskers book (that was missing a page) sounded like the most bizarre free form jazz you have ever heard...but at the end the diners put down their cutlery & applauded I still get the nerves thing after 30+ years, particularly with the prog band. Well possibly not nerves but I do tend to retreat into my shell & can really do without MrsW bubbling away before the gig. As others have said mistakes, particularly bass mistakes will 99 out of 100 fly over the heads of the crowd - except that bass player lurking at the back taking notes - and they will come up to you after the gig and say it was great when you are feeling it was cr@p and still obsessing over all the little fluffs you made. Being able to play through and catch up / find your way out of it also helps. We had a couple of moments last Friday where the vocalist came in at slightly the wrong time, or the drummer was at the wrong point in a song and missed a fill / change, but we soldiered on & got out of it and I would suspect that unless I put the video / audio up for post gig analysis noone was any the wiser, except us
Oooooofft......there is a youtube video of the particularly bad gig where during the guitar solo over 13/16 i just kind of stopped!!! I still got back in after about 7 or 8 seconds. Its bad to hear that nobody hears the bass until it stops, I don't want to believe it. Nobody goes to a Rush gig and comes out saying 'I've no idea what Geddy was playing'
9. Yeah, the mix we get at gigs isnt always great so that could contribute to my brain shutting down on occasion. Thats normally our drummers problem gelfin!
10. Ok so here's my story, I'm in a progressive/metal band and have quite complex songs, we have rehearsed them totally so at practise i can easily play them. We have this year started giging and i've found i forget bits! Stupid bits at that. Also i get the feeling that i don't know whats after the bit i'm playing is??? then as i get to it I just end up playing it right!!! Is this my nerves? I don't feel nevous at the start of a gig but i feel them build up as i play. I'm not new to playing, 20 years ago i never felt any kind of nerves while gigging, just this band. What is going on??? I'd better say......I don't do drugs and never play pissed. Is it just me? Cheers Leen.
11. Its true as Len says....nothing ventured etc. Why not go and try out a few different bands and see. From my experience band ads very rarely describe the band I meet. Or start your own band.
12. You tube's full of learner songs, and there are a few really good free teaching videos too....check oot Stu Hamm.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zF3UbJslQoQ
13. Bass Chat tat..........I want some machine head covers! not kermit as seen in the pic but how about Geddy's heid? I'd pay good money to have his small puppet heid adorn my bass.
14.
Yeh, use round wounds.. I never got this "OMG I am gonna need a new fingerboard soon"... You'll literally need YEARS to even maybe just need something to be done. Just use rounds ... better sound, and don't be scared, ebony is hard....

I've used round-wounds on my fretless Wal for most of its 29 year life and its (ebony) fingerboard has had a bit of subtle attention on just two occasions. An Overwater with an ebony fingerboard will probably outlast you whatever strings you use. P

My oldest fretless bass is almost 30 now. It's got what looks like a rosewood board and has spent most of it's life strung with Nickel round-wounds. Before I bought it, it was previously owned by a fairly high-profile session bassist and has had plenty of use. Fingerboard wear is minimal. By all means use flatwounds if you like the sound, but IMO those who are afraid to use roundwounds because they think it will damage the fingerboard are being over-cautious.
Thanks folks, I'll try the rounds........never liked the flats anyway. If anyone is interested there is pictures of this green overwater on the overwater facebook page. Cheers.
15. I've been using flatwound strings on my overwater fretless since the guy i got it from said it was what it needed. I just can't get to grips with them. I'd try using roundwound but I wouldnt want to trash the fretboard even though its an ebony. Or am I being too Cautious? What do other fretless players think? Cheers Leen.
16.
MB1. Somebodys bound to ask? ...what year is it?
Sorry forgot to put the serial number - 71206 Think its from the mid '80's as you can tell I can't work out the serial.
17. I've decided to sell this beauty after much pondering. I hate to see it in the stand and not get a fair outing, I'm a prog metal player and also I moved to 5 strings. I need to sell this to fund my next bass (so the wife tells me) There Is not a mark on the back of the neck or elsewhere to speak of. I've never gigged with it and The guy I got it from didnt either. It sounds awesome It comes with a tough hard case too. Sorry no trades or swaps. I am more than happy to speak to or email any info whatsoever. Price £950 Paypal please. Contact Me - "][email protected] www.facebook.com/leen2112 you can also see me on the jaydee facebook page Cheers Leen .
18. .... and it sounds like this........ A fellow Jaydee user, awesome looking too (the bass) I just got the CPR album and It's Ok but not the bass fest I was hoping for.
19. I've been listening to progressive rockers Ark recently and had to find more on bass player Randy Covan. His fretless work is sublime! After a quick search i found this from 1991. As one of the comments says 'it's a shame the cameraman was pished' don't let that put you off, he does a solo and has a whammy bar.......the only other guy i know of who has one is Les Claypool (primus) proper mental! Anyone else know other stuff about Randy? http://www.youtube.c...ature=endscreen
20.
Cheers! Hammersmith Apollo is 10 minutes walk from my house - think I'll get tickets for the May 2013 gig
Glasgow for me...and Rush in the same month.ooooofft!
21. How about this then....... : http://planetmosh.com/steve-hackett-genesis-revisited-tour-and-more-album-info/
22. From what I find elsewhere nobody has anything bad to say about them, Titanium reinforced neck? why? and yes i'm talking about the new one (nordstrand pickups) I wouldnt buy a bass without having a decent 'shot' and I'll have to offload my Jaydee before I'm in a position to buy anyway.
23. Hi, I'm new here so i've probably posted this in the wrong section. I'm interested in the Ibaneze SR1205. Has anyone here got one or has experience with one? I'd like to hear pro's and cons. Cheers Leen.
