Drank some vinegar and I swear it was the most refreshing drink I've ever had, and also did some scary automatic writing.... I wrote 3.14 and the random man from the audience I chose had £3.14 in change in his pocket!!!!!!!!
That's pi. You wrote pi. Did he mention pi before at any stage?

THIS is what I consider Musical Bass Playing
really interested in the nuts nd bolts of your talk that you had. Can you expand?
Ok, well we had just finished an improv, and there were obvious mistakes, none of us are pro players, and he said, among other things "Really well respected jazz players, when they make a mistake, they just repeat it and make it look like they meant to do it". That's it. -
I've heard this a few times........ ........ and this....... ........ and always had them down as jokes rather than any kind of actual fact or anything near it; same as drummer jokes - it must be a pi**er being a jazz drummer then. My own fave is "definition of a jazz band? Five blokes playing five different tunes in a race to see who can finish first". I'm in the "bass isn't really a solo instrument camp, but I do appreciate demonstrations of playing ability on any instrument if it is actually entertaining & enjoyable, not overlong & if on a bass - sounds like a bass - & not an accident in a piano wire factory (ie slap). I was reliably informed by the drummer on this track that it was done in one take - personally I like overdriven bass sounds........
I was told this in all seriousness by a friend who studied jazz at a music college. He wasn't taking the piss, he was teaching a group of us some improv techniques. -
I've played with a couple of jazz players, did this morning with this chap: http://www.andrewnob...rg/default.html He's a phenomenal musician and there's absolutely nothing that goes unintentionally. I certainly can't keep with him.
But how would you know? He would just make it seem like it wasn't a mistake. -
I don't really understand jazz, but I understand enough to know this isn't true.
What part isn't true? Some of it is exaggeration. But i know that if a jazz musician makes a mistake when improvising, they will just repeat it in a "Yeah, i meant to do that" kind of way. -
That's what I thought when I watched this........ but being from a music show I was maybe put off by the bloke next to him trying out a drum kit & playing a different tune.
That's why i don't like jazz. You can literally play whatever the f*** you want, and it's alright. You'll get approval from the jazz fans. Made a mistake? Make it again so it looks like you did it on purpose - More approval. -

It doesn't sound good to me. It sounds more like a bassist showing off just how good they are at playing bass rather than showing off how good they are at music. I watched a Scott Devine video recently where he said he didn't like teaching slap because people get stuck there, and don't learn how to play harmonically. In my personal opinion, a lot of solo bass players go too far the other way. I don't find much interesting about a bass on its own, but within the context of a band, a good bassline is a fantastic thing, outside of a band, it's just a guy playing a bass, and nobody is really interesting in that, not even most bassists, obviously. -
We've all seen the chops and the speed and gymnastics. And then there are those who claim a bass should stick to the role of playing bass. And then there's this. A couple of examples of musical creative bass playing that suite the instrument perfectly. And both instances where the instrumentation is very bare. An inventive use of the bass taking on the role of string quartet. And I don't even like this song but love what these guys did with it.
Doesn't do it for me. Like Count Bassy said, it sounds like he's playing a guitar part on a bass. Playing a bass like a guitar is just wrong to me. Also playing it like a solo instrument i don't like. -
Not too bad, but the one in the OP does look like a toy. And the whammy bars just look stupid.
That's a les term, i believe.

I like the modern F holes, which aren't F's at all, they are just squiggly lines, with the little bridge lines in the exact right location, so they actually serve their purpose
Sounds good. My local paper did a piece, but they decided against using the barcodes or links and instead just made up they're own story (very) loosely based on what I sent them.
If it's anything like my local, they will have gone out of their way to make spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, but quick to pick up on when a local business went under and spelt "Until" wrong on the sigh they put on the door. They spelt it "Untill"... I think the overriding issue of job losses and the impact on the local economy was a bigger story.

How about something like this. "The BassChat bass relay is coming to YOU!" *blurb in regular sized writing* *Date and venue in big bright font* I should do this for a living.
-
Also, could all participants consider contacting their local press. Where's it's a relatively quirky idea, they tend to like it. It'll help raise awareness and in turn, hopefully raise some more donations.
Big +1 to this. It needs as much publicity as possible, because to be honest, £75 is pretty shocking. How many gigs has it done now? 4/5? I'm not pointing the finger or blaming anybody at all, but it just needs more publicity to draw in money. Make it a bit of a spectacle to draw in the crowds.
You've pretty much called it, spot on. It's something to be listened to in one sitting, so I bought the vinyl. No, seriously, I bought the LP for the sound quality but you get a copy of the album on CD anyway. The whole package, musicians, concept, artwork, invoke a meditation of the coming of dark times and a chance to change. Like all of my favorite albums it's a grower and gets better with repeated plays.
BOOM! Yup, you need to listen to the entire album all at once. It doesn't flow together very well, but i find that once you start it, it's hard to stop it. -
Nothing special. Here, this happened all day - until the warden took all our phones.
"But where is my phone? I never use it, and it has no money in it, but where is it? I had it over here, maybe it fell and rolled under the sofa (because phones roll)". Yeah, imagine 10-15 minutes of that, then i got a phone-call confirming that it was in fact... in my pocket. -
