1. Is that my one? They were a shade under £1250 in 2005.
2. Added some pics showing the bass with the ashtrays fitted.
3. I've never handled a '58 but I would say this neck is thin back to front. Definitely not chunky.
4. They have a C width neck (1 3/4") which is shallow back to front. They also have narrow frets, which allows almost fretless like slides (think Dunn's She Caught the Katy).
5. This is probably the best Precision I have ever played. I don't really know what else to say - occasionaly Fender produces a bass that can't be faulted, and this is one of them. Originally owned by Greeneking, who bought it new. It's a lightweight, and when I got it I swapped the tuners for Gotoh resolite's (which by the way are very nice) to see if it would break the 8lb mark. I was going to replace the original tuners before taking these pictures, but they're in a "safe place" and where exactly that is escapes me at the moment. If it sells before I find them I'd like the buyer to return the Gotoh's to me when I forward the original tuners to him. The bass is mint - no marks whatsoever. It's always been kept in it's case when not in use so the nitro has no uneven fading. All original case candy is there. Peter drilled holes for the bridge tray and did a grand job (unlike most I've seen). I'm not sure when or why Fender stopped production of these, but since they did there aren't going to be any nicer examples out there.
6. I doubt if you will find a better example of this bass. There are no scratches or dings to the finish, with everything working as it should. Note that the pictures aren't the greatest (if the sun ever reappears I'll take more) - and what looks like orange marks on the finish are reflections from a clothes horse! I don't have a case for the bass, so if the buyer is in east Aberdeenshire I'll hand deliver. I'm not keen on posting without a case if it goes further afield, so we'd have to work something out. The specs for these are readily available vie google so I won't repeat them here. Likewise there are lots of sound samples on youtube. Any Q's just ask below.
7. Use shellac (get some dewaxed flakes and dissolve in meths) and french polish the neck.
8.
That's a lovely looking combo. Excuse my ignorance but what wattage are these?
The head is rated at 300W into 4 ohms, and this combo has a 4 ohm speaker so supports the full 300W. If using the head itself, it's not recommended to operate with a load less than 8/3 ohm, although plenty folk use it down to 2 ohm (if the power amp overheats the amp load is disconnected via a relay). In all cases the rating is 300W.
9. Now back with me, and the combo does indeed now run quieter. These are over £2000 at Thomann, and you won't find a cleaner used head than this.
10. I put a keen price on this intending to get a quick sale, but that hasn't worked out! So - I'm going to increase the price next week. Maybe I should put a fender decal on the headstock, tow it behind my car for a couple of miles, change the hardware for junk and target the "roadworn" market - that seems to be what the fashionable "dudes" are into.
11. The head of this combo is currently being serviced and fitted with a new silent fan, so any potential buyer can be fully confident in the performance of the unit.
12. I have a black Yamaha BB2004 in immaculate condition that I'd like to trade for a BB2005. If anyone is interested I'll upload pictures.
13. A Jon Shuker Jazz bass in immaculate condition. Specs are 34" 20 medium fret maple neck/board with a two way truss rod and carbon fibre reinforcement, bone nut, and black blocks and markers. Tuners and bridge are gotoh, pups are Lowinder with villex passive control system. The body is swamp ash with a gloss finish (neck has a poly lacquer finish). Complete with a Shuker branded Hiscox. Weight is about 4.26Kg.
14. The head is in mint condition, whilst the cabinet only has a few scuffs to the corner protectors. It also has the original Mesa cover. One thing I have noticed with this amp is that the fan makes a noise when the amp is pointing up (as it is when mounted in the cab) but is silent when the amp is horizontal. I'm not sure if this is due to a worn fan or if all walkabouts are like this. I'm happy to ship at cost, which I guess it would be about £25-30 in the UK. (I don't have a suitable box, so may have to improvise with the packing by making one up).
15. Pete gave that one a good beating with the ugly stick....
16.
Actually, you could always keep it and have it fretted? Extra £100 and you may have a lifetime keeper as per Bobby's post?
That would be a shame, the fretless version is comparatively rare.
17. Sold my lovely Fullerton Reissue Precision to Cliff. He's another asset to Basschat, being a complete pleasure to deal with!
