1. I LOVE P-Basses, those 2 are awesome, COngrats. Here's a FCS that is on my short list of "Basses that I am dying to buy, don't REALLY need another bass, but I can't stop": It's a '59 NOS. Love the pickguard and the ashtrays, etc.
2.
I would hesitate to say I like all singlecuts. But my Adamovic Halo is absolutely incredible. It feels amazing, sounds great and is astonishingly beautiful... http://www.adamovic....led%20maple.htm
I agree, looks amazing.
3.
You're not wrong there. I've fancied a Stealth 2 for ages (as far as i can tell it's a Streamline with a conventional body shape) but i dont have a spare £2K lying around.
And the "Vintage" Series I think, the P-Basses with Graphite necks and his pickups, etc. as well..??!!!! I'm dyin' here. I'm tellin 'ya!!!
4.
I'm a fan of singlecuts! Here's my beautiful Shuker 7 string tuned to low F#. The last few days had me thinking of selling it, but thankfully after a moment of complete stupidity I came to my senses as Jon and I designed it together. It's a very special instrument.
THAT is one beautiful bass guitar!!! !!
5.
Dammit yous twos, get a frikkin room already!
We did! I was SPECTACULAR!!
6. Thanks will do. Ordered Green Thumb from dealer in Colorado, Guitar X. Of course they simply act as an agent/dealer. Warwick got it built fairly quickly, about 2 months IIRC. I guess a Thumb SC 4 would surely make the CS Gallery! The choices, the choices! The natural woods are stunning, but "wax-on. wax-off" I dunno- Maybe a translucent stain, or another high-polish which is done SO WELL..... Ooohh
7. T-shirts currently on back-order; but I do have RAYBURN UKBC Signature basses, errr, I mean ranges on special
8.
After much deliberation, I've decided to build my own (-ish!)... http://basschat.co.u...recision-build/
If I had the necessary skills, I'd be in consideration too, but I don't! Also, whether one may like it or not, The 'Fender Custom Shop" marquee is a value at that; it just...is Got a good quote on the 2012 Reverse Jag Borracho too- Don't think that the Dealers don't know they better reduce price if they don't want to sit on 'em! Even with only 30 for the Planet, not that many are willing. I, however, have been told I have an "arrested development" with regard to GAS (do you all know what that is?) as well as a nice chunk of money coming shortly, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to be owning one or the other... Stay tuned!
9.
This is probably my favourite post of yours of all time, & should be pinned............ though to be fair all the rest of them have been crap!
though to be fair all the rest of them have been crap! Tough Crowd. It's my favorite post of yours, too Dad, but to be fair it's also the only one I've ever read. I've not only had it "pinned", I've had it printed into T-SHIRTS that are available for sale, along with Bass Guitar Straps, and Kitchen Furnishings at my Website: www.AGA-RayburnUSA.com I accept all currencies, Yankee Dollars, British Pounds Sterling, Euros, also will trade for English bass guitars.
10. Hot topic. Don't mean to get it any hotter, but there are bands that are making millions of dollars/pounds who IMO are not worthy musicians, and I don't like their Music! Which means nothing, just my tastes. Not trying to judge anything! Then- there are a number of Jazz musicians, and e.g Classical guitarists who are accomplished to the highest degree and make next to nothing- Market value. I used to purchase CD's on the cheap by winners of Laureate Guitar Contests, absolutely stunning music, but record sales??? Nope, try Green Day or some such for the millions of records sold, Yes, musicians should be paid, even well-paid gigs amount to little considering cost of instruments 1000's of hours practicing to reach proficiency (You should anyway!) travel, etc. Not a perfect world, and the arts-tough nut. Went with a Dancer once upon a time, she was beautifully trained, ballet et al, gigs? Not much. The analogy to photography is true, same with writers, actors, etc. Many are called few chosen IOW-NOT many gigs to be had. Don't know about Britain, actually tying to get some work there myself (touring-for pay ) but here in a big, hot-shot city like Los Angeles- few gigs to be had that pay a fair amount.
11.
Never too old for that....Too married, maybe, but never too old...
Haha, too attached to my Sig Other, and therefore... Too TIRED (Demanding Lady, she is!!!)
12. I'm not so sure that most players think it's OK, it's just kind of a necessary evil; that's the way it is type of thing. Projects spend time, blood, sweat, tears, putting their music together in garages, rehearsal halls, etc. Just BURSTING to get their music/message to the people, who can blame? The brass ring of fame- The $$, the girls, the respect, the girls, the power, the travel, the intellect, the girls, the creative spark, the achievment on one's instrument, the girls.. Why one might even get to be on "Oprah" and I truly hope you're spared that televison show! Whatever the choice, the music biz is TOUGH!!!
13.
"If you can dream it, we can build it!" lol! Just let me know if there is any way I can assist you in making this a reality. I would love to see this idea come to fruition! Cheers!
Believe me, I'm dreaming, losing sleep more appropriately. I know the vast majority of SC's are ERB's when I saw my 4-string SC, I JUMPED. It's a beaut. Kinda wish 'Wick offered the Thumb SC in a 4-string, but I understand it would not be the majority's preference. And I know the Custom Shop would knock it outta the park! There are so many incredible options to be had- The bass I'm thinking would be outrageous, and as stated, I think the SC Thumb is in my eyes a beautiful bass. All it takes is money & time; one I've got, the other-soon enuff I think!
14. Is there the "pay-to-play" scenario in the UK? This is a system in which bands perform at clubs, get a percentage of "the door" during their set, objective being to get the band to call their friends/posse to the club, pay $10 to get in, band gets 3-5 dollars, something like that. Whatever an act wants or needs to do to get their name out there has to be fine with me. It's not an issue if an act has bookings, then no matter if other bands play for free. Some claim that this "ruins" it for working bands as the club owners will then look to book acts willing to perform for nothing. What I've learned is that Club Owners want something that will sell drinks/food, bring people to the venue when the right act performs appropriate music. Meaning not Cowboy tunes in a Jazz Club, not R&B in a Goth bar. Find the appropriate venue for the music you're doing, fill the club, sell lots of whiskey; You'll get paid. Or, be a rockstar and fly! away in a Lear Jet! Me- I'm getting too old for all the girls that would undoubtedly THROW themselves at me Anyway....Play for free if you want to. Might get future paying gigs.
15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8Zvz0JfrNs Covering this tune w/ our own flavor (Female Vox, basic 3-piece Rhythm section etc.) Nice arrangement, diff than recorded version too But check this band out, and Ronald isley is getting it right.
16. They look awesome, sure they play & sound that way too. Well Done.

(2) Variants of the J-Bass: James Trussart SteelCaster http://www.jamestrussart.com/models_detail.php?id=3 Michael Stevens Slant 4 http://www.stevensguitars.com/models/slant4/ Sorry Fender, puts "a real" one on the back-burner for me!
18. What model(s) are those, please; 2nd from left and far right? Pretty cool along with your MM's. And Warwick Official, I will state that I LOVE the design of the Thumb SC; I think it's the bomb, and knowing how my BO Thumb sounds- Holy smokes, in a SC I bet it has bottom and resonance that could make me cry-and play it to no end. I have a "ship coming in" shortly so to speak, and having the Warwick Custom Shop, which IMO makes some of the most amazing Basses ever, do a 4-string Thumb SC- I'm sick! I had my Thumb built in a high-gloss Green; that's it, but SO well-done..Sorry about the pic, POS digicam. Having a THUMB SC 4-string built with options considered... Excuse me; I need to go meditate after that thought...
19. Rickenbacker Company has their own little world, not too far from me in SoCal. I intro'd myself to John Hall at NAMM, pretty nice guy, his family's business 2nd generation I believe. They sell all they can make and then some. He's been offered $$$$$$$$ to sell the company and/or license models for overseas production. Won't do it. I understand he's got a collection af Rickenbacker instruments that would shock the World! Here in the States, there has been some quite recently who have been adamant about terrible QC coming from the factory on the latest releases. Then again, here in the States there are posters who proclaim what's what with their finger up their....ear. I totally liked my 2 Ric basses, and after a simple set-up by a very good tech, they both sounded awesome to me. The Laredo especially is a real under-the-radar bass, I absolutely got into it, wider neck and much more basic eq than the 4003. I heard it was built for Macca to consider as a lighter alternative to the 4003. My FG 4003 was great too. It was a late 2010 I think model with the vintage capacitor pull. The eq took a bit of tweaking, but after I got it, I found some great tones on this bass using only stock strings. Once my tech set it up, it had perfect action, smooth as butter. I made a point of stating that I'm not a Geddy Lee or Chris Squire bassist, I laid down a deep pocket, real phat, with both these basses, and they're not normally associated with R&B, but could and should be. Great tone IME. I think the concensus is you either like 'em or hate 'em. They're certainly not Fenders, that's a good thing. My thought is that they are very well-made, distinctive sounding basses. There's after-market bridges, there are fittings fo removing the pup cover. Leave 'em be I say!! They're Rickenbackers, and man do they ever hold re-sale value. I had so many offers when I put mine on the block......
20.
Good evening, Elijay... Perhaps it's time for someone here to extend a 'Welcome', and 'explain' some of the 'rules'. We have several overseas folks here (I'm not in Britain, myself...), so please don't feel singled out. Posts here are started by the OP (obviously...), but he/she has little/no control from then on. Some posts are echos from previous subjects, or make (sometimes obscure, sometimes mistaken...) references to other participants, with their quirks and foibles, as 'ragging', or jesting. As with all chicken coops, there is a heirarchy, or 'pecking order'; some of our members (there, I said it..!) are well known for their cutting edge and style of 'humour'. Occasionally (but not often...), there will be a clash of opinions, depending on subject, but mostly the back-and-forth here is in good spirit, to be taken as banter, not a personal attack. I think I am safe in affirming that, if you were, for whatever reason, to be 'ganged up on' (heaven forbid..!), you would certainly be aware of the difference. (Please don't try this for a lark...). Yes, we understand that, as a 'noobie' here, you won't pick up all the subtle nuances, but be assured that we are not, from the outset, sniggering at you. You are not being bullied. Take it on the chin, scratch your head, and laugh at the crazy crew here who have mostly a hearty complicity, won over time, and an unfortunate way with words of times. (Of course, being of 'Yankee' culture is not playing in your favour, but we are, in general, a forgiving lot... ). Hope this helps; no malice intended. Meanwhile...
EDITS MADE: (IN BOLD) Thanks, although I wasn't fortunate enough to be born English OR FRENCH , as I stated before, the Country charmed the freakin' heck outta me. SO DID FRANCE Don't know if I'd want to leave sunny SoCal to expat, but truthfully, I would love to go back, and am trying to do so as we speak. My humblest apologies for crashing the local with fists flying if that's what it seemed; it wasn't. Although it might not be a bad idea at times.... if someone takes the 'p' they're normally hoping to enjoy an equal or better expression of wit in response, not some holiday snaps. Now THIS- a great example of something, because I'm REALLY not sure what's being said! (Not being a smart-ass either) OKAY, I got it now, just took awhile. Thing is, I'm too dangerous/Intense with MY wit sometimes Not sure whether the advice is Fer or Agin me, but either way, I'll try &...behave better if I've transgressed. Don't think it was fer OR agin me, just words of wisdom...Or Parlimentary Procedure ...Which actually I'm not sure I have either! Now that I re-think...I didn't- I was right-effin' ON!
21. That ACG is awesome; I usually think Ritter is a little over the top, but I like that SC alot. This Benavente works for me; as do (2) more by Jeff Powers of ELLA Bass. The Warwick Thumb SC; I can see how it humps a lot of players out, but if it were available in a 4-string- I'd be wanting one. Maybe because I have a BO THumb and dig it's tone.

23. There's my Cousin Randy (hey he ex-pated to France quite a few years back, look him up!) Giving Geo Harrison a Rick; then shaking hands with Sir Paul, tho he wrote "It looks like I'm about to slap him!" I even saw the letter on NEMS stationary that Geo wrote thanking him. Pretty cool for Geo to have done that. Minneapolis MN way back when. Ric Bass- I had a FG 4003 and a MG 4004 Laredo, whichis something a bit different. I liked them both, but sold them both when I made a move and had to trim the herd. Damn, I let some fine one's go then inc. a Sadowsky, Lakland USA Decade, Lull T-Bass and a G&L LCF Centennial ltd edition. How I miss them all. Wouldn't mind having EITHER Ric back in the fold. I kind dug them.
24. From the moment the Parker FLY came out I was enthralled. Insanely cool basses, and US-Made Parkers are custom-shop quality all the way. I've never seen a 'burst one like yours; they were here in Red and a natural quilt IIRC, but obviously other finishes were done. THAT is a killer bass. 2X, I've seen US Fly's come up for sale on E-Bay, rarely from a private party as there weren't many built, and owners prolly hang on to 'em. My understanding is Parker had issues with the first runs, then fixed that, and there life-span was brief, before they went offshore, which tho playble, are no where near the US-made lots. Now, they intro'd the Maxx Fly, but that's gonna be a rare bird at the cost etc. I'd love that bass, it'd rock like a mutha, I know all about it. Can't imagine how an overseas trade might work, plus although I have some MAJOR killer basses (23) all fretted-fours- each one is "my wife" all different all awesome. If you wind up "having to" hold onto that bass- You'll be good!
25.
I don't like it when they are 'extreme' but the subtle SC design on my Status Streamline seems to suit it ok.
That's an interesting design. I've spoke with Rob I believe it was, about getting a headed Status Stealth built/shipped to me; they are truly Killer basses. Never did the deed (yet) There's this one available in the States; that is actually making me drool on a daily basis. Headed Stealth neck thru w/ leds... I guess we (at least I ) can't be John Entwhistle, with massive collection, eh?
