+1 on that!as i posted before why could'nt they have made them in uk?bet the guys are not very happy about losing more work overseas!
I emailed Ashdown about this and apparently they will be making the valve head in the UK aswell for Europe! , the US made stuff is just for those crazy 'I only buy things made by Americans' yankees to help Ashdown in the states. I also mentioned the panel pics look wrong and they admitted the right ones werent up yet and the ABM panels are up in the meantime.

Id recommend the Ashdown MAG over the Marshall stuff if you can stretch a little more money may be worth trying them both.
Thanks the Lord, another Ashdown fan. That's 3 of us now, I think.
4 of us!

I bought one of these a couple of months back to use with my Superfly for when i dont need the big rig; http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop/flypage/product_id/37072 Sounds great, very defined and punchy but holds the lows nicelyand pretty light being neos so easy on the back and being 4 ohm you would get full power from your LM, should give one a try if you can.
The MK500 can do a hell of a lot IMO. They were generally a bit ignored I feel, and they do take a little bit of time to get to grips with with settings. In hindsight I don't think I had the cab to do it justice and would loved to have matched it with some on the cabs I subsequently had. The EPI UL310 to name just one P
+1 If you love the clean hi fi 12 band graphic sound then this amp is awesome, keep meaning to try out the Mk Combo that came out recently!
ashdown klystron 2x10 combo!
+ 1 I love my rig but gotta say there are times I wish I had a combo for smaller gigs and rehearsing and this looks so sweet http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?ID=181
It had a tight nylon grille so I couldn't see but I would guess at 4x10 as it was quite a big cab area but not very deep. Only a guess tho
Tight nylon grill? That sounds like a Klystron not an ABM as the ABM's have a metal grill. Was it this one?
and there was me thinking I had a good bass sound. Damn. I suppose I should be looking to get a couple of Boutique designer 12s now so I can get a decent sound. I really thought my 25 years of giigging experience had taught me that a good sound is only in your head. Right chaps lets all get the same cabs so we can all get the same sound. I think your missing the point here, who is qualified to say whether your sound is good except yourself, answer? - of course its none except yourself is it? Because only you know what sound your trying to achieve and whether thats with 10s, 15, 18s or even 12s or a mixture of all the above or even a 50 watt practice amp. So science can't define what a good sound is unless a computer has a better idea what you want than you do
Wholeheartedly agree with this, tone is such a personal thing and most of us spend our lives trying to emulate either other players or the sound in our heads, aint that half the fun?
-
The Five 15 is a great amp but to be fair its still a practice amp, if you are going to be jamming etc then I would stretch to an Electric Blue, lots more power and features for not a lot more money
-
There's pleanty of people on here who gig with MAG combos and love em so maybe best to give one a try before dismissing them, they are superb amps for the money.
-
Think you should have a look at one of these, looks a great price for a 100 watt amp http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...roduct_id/14408

Surely one of these would be a better choice for the money? Should definitely be heard above your drummer.
Sorry, I tried a lot of markbass stuff today. Best was the LMKII through a 4x10. It did sound good but nowhere near as good as my ashdown rig. My ashdown has balls and grunt and a great set of bollocks and Im keeping it. I have the MAG 300 and 4x10 cab. Next question ... what are the higher end ashdown amps like? I'm heading for some more ashdown because if thats how their low end compares their top end must be the dogs. cheers ...
I'm not much on the Mark Bass either bit too lifeless for me. Glad you loving your MAG, try the ABM if you can think you may like. My Klystron rig makes me smile everytime I plug into it, it never fails to sound anything other than awesome.
On the other hand, you could use the Superfly 4x8 stand alone cab which was presumably designed and produced for those wanting to use the head to full effect with only one cab.
Ahh I forgot about that, i think from what ive heard the 4x8 is split into two 4 ohm 2x8's so you run an input into each side and get full whack, anyone heard or got one of these cabs? Be interesting to know what it sounds like
-
I may be wrong and I am sure people will correct me if I am wrong but I think the technology involved in the Superflys 2 x poweramps simply is not bridgable or Ashdown would have included this as a feature, youd be better off waiting for the new little giant heads to come out and get one of those if you dont want to use 2 cabs as the 1000 watt version has 2 x 500 watt outputs so you could just use one cab running 500 watts. Hope this helps
I guess hate is a bit strong, but apart from a MAG410T cab I used to have (running a Trace 12-band head through it) I have never liked the sound I've gotten out of any Ashdown gear, no matter what I've done with EQ, positioning etc etc. To be honest regarding the Marshall I've heard 50% good and bad reports about them, probably the same as you'd get with most gear as it's all very subjective.... If I were buying a new combo I'd probably aim at a Markbass or new TE range but what I like and everyone else is different
Fair enough mate, have you tried the Labs stuff, in particular the Mark King head? Sounds like itd be more your bag if you like the old Trace gear, 12 band graphic very hi fi. After all Ashdown is owned by the guy who made trace great in the 80's anyway. To me I cant put my finger on it but the new Trace stuff is just missing something in its sound, not really anything like the good old stuff.
In your opinion and for the sound you're after I personally hate Ashdown amps so wouldn't recommend them, it's very subjective. I'm pretty sure there's someone on here with either that marshall combo or a head/cab set up similar and he loves it.
Lol, fair play my furry little friend, just said what I thought, didnt say they were bad! After all variety is the spice of life. Hates a strong word by the way, so whats with the Ashdown 'hating' then out of interest? Seems a tad severe!
-
They are ok for what they are, but very heavy and the sound isnt really that great to my ear. In my opinion youd be better off looking at the Ashdown MAG or ABM range. Hope this helps!
-
Ashdown ABM all the way!
-
Love my Ashdown rig it beats my old SVT rig in every department, wonderfully full and defined with loads of grunt, it makes me smile every time I plug into it, and there's just something about buying British with huge cooperations and companies swallowing others on a daily basis one that is independently owned that makes great amps, and is based in a farm in good old Essex just makes me think 'Good work Ashdown'
-
What amps have 'growl' or just, suited to heavy rock/metal situations?

Ashdown all the way mate, the MAG is amazing value for money and I believe the new ones have a compressor built in which is always handy. -

Ill have a look though thanks I was gonna go for Trace stuff....but I want all Ampeg I think eventually. What the Berg 610 like?
If you get the opportunity then make a trip to Electro and see Dave, I bought my Ashdown Cabs from him and he usually has some Ampeg bits in aswell, he's a top bloke and may be able to help you with your decision. Good luck! -

How much are you looking to spend regards the 810? I have been mightily impressed by my Ashdown Classic Cabs, also dont forget all Ampeg gear is now made in Vietnam but they still charge US prices, seems a tad cheeky to me.
