2. still can't remember......
3. I can't think of the album it's from now but I think that he's got it note for note there
4. You have the best of both worlds there, 3T Sunburst and Tobacco Sunburst!
5. A fine musician!
6. Go for it, good luck and may the fours be with you!
7.
Im still on the night shift with new baby. I think I teased you with a father ted quote the other night. I will be back at work next week and can fire random things at people during work time. The original answer was fridge. I usually have a bit of Johnny Cash on in the background, just in case.
Never watched Father Ted....but weirdly enough, when I was trying to figure out what the hell you were on about.... I did think of a fridge.
8. Actually it's the silent drive home after a gig.....and when I sit here like a looney reading topic after topic and all I can here is my pc....by the way it was such a random question, what was all that about?
9. I put mine in as soon as I arrive at a gig and leave them in until I get in my car/van to go home, can't be too sure when the drummer is going to crack his snare
10. I love zingy, loud ringing strings, so I change them after every 2, maybe 3 gigs. I used to be quite obsessive about it.
11.
thats the rule i use for my band we're a 3 piece with me singing lead and my mate on drums and my lil brother on lead... and when he switches to do a solo because we both have really big sounds my bass is quite boomy and in your face and is guitar is very dirty and heavy and so the combination allows us to go on with out a rythm guitar plus it gives me more room to fill the gap and throw in fills when i see fit... so yeah i'm completely against the whole rythm guitar infact now i'm writing stuff for us there will never be a need for a rythm guitarist... so my vote no more than one...
3 piece is the future
12.
The two drummers were in the band at different times! Both were/are amazing musicians, one now plays fiddle in a gypsy jazz inspired acoustic act and the other is drummer in a fantastic Glasgow band Laki Mera. Edit: there was only ever one bass player at a time as well
Oh, right one drummer...I knew there was only one bass player at a time though...I'm clever like that ya see Also notice they think very highly of you, well done mate! I'd still like to do a gig with another bass player though.
13.
This is what they sounded like... http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endid=201582767 Sadly, I was only depping, but I've worked with a few members of the band since. The band leader has recently got a gig with Mark Lanegan from Queens of the Stone Age.
Two drummers! I've always wanted to do a gig with another bass player, but Canon...very good, just two much of one thing for me, they do sound very good though.
14.
Yep, I couldn't find any decent live versions of it on Youtube, I'd be surprised if it wasn't possible though. I've played in a band with three guitarists before and it worked well, because everyone had well-defined roles and knew when not to play. I've also been in a band as the sole guitarist where there was a keyboard player who was there purely because he was the drummer's mate. That was intolerable because he didn't know where to leave space.
Hats off to you mate, I couldn't cope with that 3 guitars???? Noooo. As you say, if roles are well defined then I can see how that would work.
15.
What do you make of this? 11 guitar parts, 2 bass parts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohMynbDlb2c
This is stuff for guitar ensembles, a little different to what I think as too many guitars....recorded material is a different ketttle of fish IMO, things can be written and arranged, etc. Actually there is a live vid on youtube, just gets annoying in the end! In a live situation I don't see the need for an extra guitar, I'd rather see/hear another instrument if other parts need to be played, or just keep it to the old classic 3 piece.
16. I use them all the time now, very happy!
17. I'm not getting involved with you, last time I did my eyes were like piss holes in the snow.
18. Is that a trick question?
19.
If you're going to do it I suggest a mullet of that magnitude may be in order also. Awesome, on so many levels.
Yeah, it's addictive. Just incredible how players can get that speed and accuracy. Even if I sold my soul to the devil there is no way on earth that I could ever hope to get that stamina and speed in my fingers.....I've tried and it's soul destroying
20.
After a break of a couple of weeks, I come back to the bass and my digits are flying round the frets faster than before. I also seem to be playing quite different basslines. Am I just imagining this, or is there some physical or mental reason for this apparent improvement?
It's nice to have a break, it all feels fresh and new when you start playing again, maybe it's when all the stuff you practise is actually absorbed and it just comes out
21.
It's actually just typical of his comments.
Yeah, I know...just hadn't noticed much flaming recently...I was feeling left out and wanted to be licked by the ferrets flames
22.
As you may have gathered from the useless replies you have received so far - its up to you to decide when to change them. If they sound too dull for your liking, or the intonation is off cos they have flatted over the frets (look at the underside of the strings where they touch the frets), change them. If not, dont bother.
Why are they useless replies?.....topic is "How often do you change your strings?"
23. I love Gilbert too, he's an amazing musician aswell as a master shredder. It's all very well these bass players on youtube doing a Scarified cover, I agree it's incredible but it's been done before, do it live if you're going to learn it....sitting in a bedroom is good but not that good. Juan's the man who cuts it live for a bass shredder! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOW_-OESnq0...feature=related
24. Tell your guitarist to mind his own business, you know what you're doing and to stay out of your frequencies, they always want to the bass player to play what they think it should be. They're a pain generally and should only be allowed out under supervision.
25. Good luck!
