I remember buying his album Radio free albemuth (was that the name?) on vinyl when it came out. I ADORED the active tone from his Kubicki bass. Also, ‘Country music’ was one of those tracks that just blew your mind!

I've been listening to Brian Culbertson all day. I doubt that anyone here even knows him, and most people look down on his type of music - smooth jazz. For me it's ideal music to work to, I enjoy it in the background but it gives me thinking space for my job. His recorded music is quite mellow, but the live shows have a bit more energy. I don't expect people here to like it, but if you want a taste here's a live show:

Should I get this guitar, or something else?
Angel replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Other Instruments
I'm a guitar person but I'm not into effects so I would say get the guitar. Having said that, the first year I persuaded Mrs A to let me buy the only guitar I would ever need was about 30 years ago. I've owned around 30 since then. -
I'd have to sell a child to afford that! Plus I have never owned a passport ....

It warmed my heart a bit to see Paul Jones to be honest. He was a fave of my mum, who passed away a couple of years ago. It's the little things like this that light up a little corner in my mind, memories of mum. I am a musician because of my mum.

OK, to sum up, we basically all liked it.

I never get why people here are so negative about the show. I stuck Rick Astley on before midnight for about 15 minutes, that was fun, but then they put on Fireworks and I find fireworks on TV monumentally boring. So at that point I switched over to Jools and had it on in the background whilst I faffed on the iPad until about 15 mins before the show ended. Well, I enjoyed it enough, the Irish band were cracking! And I really liked Joss Stone's two numbers. I would never have recognised her now. A good looking woman! I don't know, everyone is entitled to an opinion I guess but it feels a bit like it's 'hip' around here to criticise the show. Jools' band guitarist was good, there was an excellent saxophonist, and some lovely busy bass playing at times (forget the numbers?). Still, we can all like what we like I guess.

OK, so I'm just a 'home' musician. I have a few basses, but I sort of went off bass playing a number of years ago. I lost the spark, lost the mojo. I figured that I might get it back a year (or two?) ago by designing and building a bass. I had a thread about it somewhere but it died off towards the end (the thread not the bass!). Well, I made the bass, never got it finished totally but it was playable. It lacked a bit of something and ended up back in the case for most of the last year. I have other instruments that I was more into. Anyway, for reasons unknown I dug it out again yesterday, set it up properly and it just clicked! I have had great fun playing it the past 2 days! All good, but ..... I have the urge to stain the body, so it's literally all in pieces again now! Hopefully I can get it all sorted whilst I am still high on interest. That is all.

Ouch! I would HATE that situation. I was cursed with way too much empathy in life and I am already worrying for her reaction having read this thread. That would devastate some people, I really hope that she takes it OK.

Well they have an innate ability to highlight mopey old fogeys like me who are out of touch ....

The charts are pure mockery now. They want a chart based on streams rather than purchases, however .... Apparently that doesn't work as many 'older' songs would be permanently in the charts, so .... They don't count all the streams of older songs, but .... They also cheat if they feel like it, eg. Kate Bush running up that hill they 'decided' to count all streams and push it to number 1. Well, that's fair then ... Maybe they do the same at Xmas with Xmas songs? The whole thing is garbage as far as I am concerned. Still, what do I care, I haven't followed the top 40 for a great many years. Apparently 'Ladbaby' had the number one for the past 5 years. I've only ever heard their first.

Anyone else got a particularly long finger nail?
Angel replied to Big J's topic in General Discussion
I spent decades biting my nails from teens on. Never really low, but just instead of cutting them. It only stopped when I got older and my teeth wore down in a way that my incisors were no longer sharp enough. -
I never liked that Christmas Wrapping song so I never paid any attention to it, I never realised that the bassline was so darned interesting!

Never had a problem with nails on a bass, but I HATE playing piano when they get too long and click a bit. -
Nice OP image! Prog is my fave music

Scratching your initials into the front of your bass.......!
Angel replied to Chewie's topic in General Discussion
Looks cool to me. The initials wouldn't put me off but the price does! -
@toneknob Although as mentioned I do prefer the flat top design, wow that is another really fabulous looking bass!
-
I much prefer the flay top myself. I saw the same bass rounded off and thought nah, not for me.

Not sure if this will work as its a Facebook photo. Someone is selling this bass, an F bass BN5 in matte black. Love it! Yup, facebook link died. Here's two new pix.

Just been to see my dad, he's 95 now. He had zero interest in music until he met my mum around 70 years ago. Mum liked classical music, so dad kind of got into that over the years. He generally thought that stuff that me my bro and sister listened to was a terrible racket! Anyway, why am I saying this ... I got over there and and he said "I watched Glastonbury all evening, the Foo fighters were very good, the new drummer did well" I almost fell off my chair!

Really good lessons/tutors on Youtube for slap bass techniques?
Angel replied to Angel's topic in Theory and Technique
Thanks for that! Really helpful, that is exactly the thing I'm trying to get. I shall give it a whirl shortly ...
