    NPD - Zoom B3n

It's very big.... Hopefully it'll fit on my pedal board. Rather amusingly, despite it coming from amazon.de, the instructions manuals are in Spanish, Italian and French.
  2. We're going to be pruning our sweet cherry tree quite hard this year, and I'm going to end up with some reasonable lumps of branch, 200mm in diameter or thereabouts. They're not going to be big enough for bass building but should be ok for small trinket boxes or something. My question is should I plank them first, and how thick or should I store them as rounds to season them?
  3. I dream of the day when I stop feeling like I'm making sh!t up in my handworking, but then I suspect that being competent at everything means that it just becomes routine. Long live the mild feeling of terror when even though you are absolutely certain it's all correct and going to work you're still not wholly convinced.
  4. That bottom horn does nothing for me, the angle of dangle looks all wrong. But so what, it's not my bass. You're making a stunning looking instrument with those lovely looking bits of wood.
  5. Chopsticks? It sounds, and looks, utterly spiffing.
  6. Could you do them in black? Black anodised 5er with copper "saddles"? Asking for a friend....
  7. I've indulged myself with a bit of arty photography. Not as good as @Andyjr1515 with his black cloth professional efforts
  8. Copper for me. They look so nice.
  9. Actually, before I forget, as there are some proper craftspeople on here, any idea what's going on here? It happened when I was cutting three of the dovetails, the middle broke out rather than cutting. Chisel not sharp enough?
  10. My first, second, third and fourth dovetail joints! Also some bits of wood with holes in. Oops, I forgot. They're supposed to be artistically staged and photographed. Tomorrow, the second one is in it's clamps at the moment.
  11. Oh, just to make it clear, this isn't just from my bench. Feel free to chip in with anything that you've made. Rules: Things must be of general interest to the BC audience. I'd love to see your 7 1/4 GWR King Class (even more to drive it) or 100cc V12, but that's not BC. No WIP, unless you're so squeeeeeeee about it that you have to. No luthierie, do a proper diary thread for that. No massive projects, do a proper diary thread for that. No Model A hotrods, by order of @Dad3353. Clear? Then carry on 🙂
  12. Yes, it's WIP, but it's My First Dovetail so
  13. Of course you can, think of it as keeping the memory of the little habitat alive. A bassy memorial.
  14. I'd like to say that I'm surprised, but I'm not. A new development went up at the top of West Haddon a couple of years back, a few old trees were found to be 'rotten' or 'accidentally' hit by heavy machinery. You can't prove intent, but we all knew it was because they were in the way.
  15. I'm actually pretty rubbish at squaring off the ends though.
  16. Do you want WIP photos or are you happy to have the finished creations artistically staged and photographed?
  17. Before you do any liberating you need to find out who's trees they were. Also, the guys doing the felling may have been given the wood in part payment for doing the job. I can't tell you which cuts are the best, but if all is OK then certainly nab as much as you can. You're looking at it drying at a rate of 25mm a year though so you won't be making anything from it anytime soon.
  18. Sorry, what? It's lined as well? Contrasting silk or a more gentlemanly fine worsted wool?
  19. For @Richard R. To prove that it wasn't a fluke, or rather, it was a fluke, but it's a fluke I'm capable of repeating!
  20. I'll be honest, I'd have one simply because it looks different and wildly over engineered 😉 Will you be selling these or are they just for your own basses?
  21. "*CISION BASS *Prefix of your choice." It makes the decal slightly unwieldy, but you're welcome.
  22. The intonation is set by the screwed inserts in the turret things?
  23. @LukeFRC, I think it was, asked what I was going to build with my new vice so I thought I'd start a little thread with my projects in, luthierie or otherwise, more otherwise I'm afraid. I present to you my first piece, I call it Rebate with Pocket, Plane on Wood (2020). It's just me playing with a rebate and router plane really.

    Hand Tools

This afternoon I've been sharpening chisels. I got a set of four C&K ones from vintage tool shop that must have been put in a tumble cleaner or something, the small 3/16th one had a tip profile like a bent screwdriver. 60 grit sandpaper to get the bevel back and then finished up on the waterstone. Boring as anything, but they're unusable if I don't just crack on with it.
  25. I've gone back to look at the pictures again. It looks like a non locking floating trem? Definitely interested to see what happens, and equally, how it sounds. Full on bass dive bombs would be fun 😉
