1. Hi, Apologies for what may seem a daft question, but how do you actually use the LINK connection on the back of a bass cab? I've always ignored it, but curious to know what it is actually for. Does it mean you can run more than two cabs from a single head (the head has two speaker outs, and can be used with 2x 8ohm cabs)? I am guessing not, since would this not affect the overall impedance of the system back to the head? Thanks!
2. Hi there, Just after some basic info really, I would appreciate your thoughts. A couple of questions:

Basic power ratings between an amp head and cabinets – if I hooked up a 200w cab to a 300w (or higher) head, is there a risk of doing damage to either the speakers or the head? (this is assuming the input gain is set correctly and not being clipped). Would I be correct to assume this is OK, since the head is rated at 300w @ 4ohm, but will be around half that with 1 cab attached, which is rated to 8 Ohm, so the amp is able to supply around 150w to a single cab?
What is the effect of putting two cabs that do not have similar power ratings into the head? For example, the 300w head @ 4ohm, will take 2x 8ohm cabs. But one cab is rated to 400w, while the 2[sup]nd[/sup] cab is 200w. So impedance is correct, but what effect does the different power ratings have?
Cheers! Andrew
3.
Of course, getting guitarists to turn down isn't always easy...
Hahaha...never a truer word spoken!
4. Hi there, Apologies if this is a bit of a daft question! Our PA uses 3 active speakers one of which is an occasional sub for club venues. If we wanted to add a 2nd sub, can you run a passive sub from the active ones? Does that make sense and is it possible!? Ta!
5. I've used this guy who is near Royston for repairs to both a Trace Super Tramp guitar amp and my Trace bass head. Seems to know his stuff and very reasonable costs. Oh yes, and he also repaired my UniBass pedal. http://chrisnewmangrooves.co.uk/repairs.php
6. If you do decide to sell, drop me a pm about the Schecter. I already have a Custom-5 and wouldn't mind another similar Stilleto style as a 2nd bass.

8. Hi there, Product is a Showtec Lightfoot 4 DMX controller. The band bought this for use with our lights, but we never got round to using it and have since replaced the lamps so this is now not required. Specs can be found here Lightfoot Controller or here with a pic - WITH PICTURE (4th one down). It was taken out of the celephane wrapping to have a look at, but was never used. Comes in its original box. It was supplied with a 2 pin plug only, so I bought a 2pin to 3pin converter to allow us to use it. I'll chuck that in the box to, as it only cost a few quid to buy. I guess there is no reason why the 2 pin plug can't be swapped to a 3 pin as a permanent solution - but I am not an electrician so I haven't done that nor can I recommend you do it either! Price = £75 (including postage). We paid around £100, which seems to be the going rate for a new one according to the above sites, so £75 seems a fair price. Thanks, Andrew
9. Thanks! Just what I wanted to hear! Cheers for making the effort!
10. Thanks! My current string spacings at the bridge are around 16mm, which from what I can see, are pretty close (typical spacing seems to be around 19mm).
11. Hi there, If anyone has a Cort Curbow 5 string, could you take a measure of the width of the neck at the nut and 12th fret (or the string spacing at the nut and bridge). I am looking to buy another bass, and the 2x 5 strigners I have previously used both have narrow spaced strings. I'd rather keep to that kind of spacing. I am quite interested in the Curbow, but there are no specs that I can find! Thanks, Andrew
12. Thanks for the replies - it certainly helps to understand the basic presise of having actives. I must admit I already have an active bass but never really stopped to think about why! In relation to the above comments I suppose I am also a marginal active user - I run the guitar with both pick ups blended at 50:50 - then I do boost the bass when needed with the active eq, but tend to roll off the neck pick up if I want to bass cut. For me I suppose it boils down to having the extra versitility available in case it is needed rather than using it for the sake of it. Cheers!
13. Hi there, Apologies if this is a daft question, but you never learn unless you ask!! What is the advantage of having actives on a guitar/bass? What do they actually offer over and above good tone controls on passive basses? I’ve been going along with actives are better attitude, but never really stopped to understand why! Thanks!
14. Thats not the one from a seller in Anglesey was it? Seriously thought about buying that esp as we were going on holiday in North Wales and were going to be on Anglesey at some point! Tempting...!
15. Hi there, Does anyone have any hands on opinions of the following 5-string basses: Vintage V1005 Yamaha RBX 775 Cort T75 Tanglewood Canyon 2 Cort Curbow 5 I am looking for a 2nd bass as a backup to my current one (Shecter Diamond Stilleto (daft name!)). I’ve read some mixed comments on the Vintage (specifically about the weedy neck up) – anyone used this bass before and any thoughts on the sound and pickups? I have been seriously looking at the Cort T75, but can’t quite convince myself that for £500 it is really worth it. Anyone used it before? I do like the Yamaha but they are few and far between – they generally get very good reviews – can anyone corroborate this? I did have a lesser RBX model years ago and thought it was a very nice bass, but not this specific model. I play the Schecter through a Trace head and cab and it sounds excellent. I like a certain amount of metallic twangy-ness (oh yes, no harm on making up words!) with the deep bottom end in the sound, and the Schecter delivers this perfectly (fitted with stock EMG HZ’s). I can’t get to try any of the above, so opinions would be appreciated if anyone has used these before. The bass I had before the Schecter sounded like it was playing through mud compared to the brightness that the Schecter gives. Although I only want to spend a limited amount on the back up, I also don’t want another muddy sounding plank. I know opinions are all very subjective and I appreciate that, but equally they can useful from real world users. Thanks Andrew
16. I see the title has changed - is this now sold then?
17. Any idea how old this is? What is the pick up - Bartolini? Condition - any faults etc? Thanks! PS: I'm on holiday in north Wales next week, so it is a temptation!
18. Well, the guy called today to say he had found a fault and that the pedal is fixed. It was a pretty muffled line so was difficultto make out, but it sounded like the mono-amp on the input had blown. Does that make sense? If it does, then please explain it to me - always willing to understand things better! Cheers!
19. Hmm...interesting! I always thought the standard iPod earphones that came with my iPod nano (bought last year) were rather good. Because they simpy don't stay in my ears, I have been wanting to buy soemthing else. I did buy a cheap no-name set and clearly they were way inferior to the iPod ones. So after reading this thread, I did buy a set of the Sennheiser CX300's. After trying both sets now, I have to say there is little difference between the two of them - in fact to my ears the iPod ones are actually slightly better - better bass and they seem to impart a degree of depth to the sound (difficult to describe). If only they wouldn't fall out! (And no, I am not using tape to hold them in!). Also, they are noticeabley louder than the CX300s. How much does the size of the ear pieces affect the sound - the CX300s are half the size of iPod ones - I presume this must go someway in affecting the quality and the frequency range of the earphones? Did Apple supply good and bad sets of earphones with different iPods? Have I just got a good set? BTW, I bought the CX300s via Amazon, so I assume they are genuine!
20. Thanks for the suggestions. I did open the back up, nothing obvious though. I have sent it to the fella who sorted out my bass head and the guitar amp. Hopefully it is something simple - I would like it back in 2 weeks time for our next gig! Must say, it was very noticable during the last gig with it not running. I only really use it on 4 or 5 songs, but those did sound a bit lackluster without it. Just shows you don't always appreciate something until it isn't working!
21. Thanks for those links! Book marked for future reference! Cheers.
22. Hi There, Got to our gig on Sat night, only to find my Unibass pedal has decided to stop working. Since these things are hard to find and not made any more, I was wondering whether repairing it may be an option. So, has anyone had pedals reparied before, and if so, any suggestions where I could send it? (Akai themselves seem to be an American company, with a UK distributer operating out of a unit - so I am assuming repairs is not something they would be involved in). Thanks, Andrew
