  2. I'm not really looking to use a guitar amp as a bass amp but as a fat sounding guitar amp to really fill the frequency holes left by not having a second guitarist. Adding a harmony pedal only muddies things as i've tried them in the past and ended up with less room to making things really groove with the drummer. I've thought about using taurus style pedals but thats for more big synth type backing. I've heard quite a few bass players in larger rock bands talk about using the overdrive from a Marshall to help cut through but fatten things out but didn't know if anyone had any experence of it. Have to say it works for me
  3. I've tried using my sansamp as an overdrive both before the amp and in the effects loop as well as using a good quality guitar overdrive and blending it in with the effects mix on my amp and still wasn't happy with the sound. Using a DI for the bass signal and a bassman for the distorted sound works really well as it gives all the cleans from the DI but valve amp distortion to really fill out the mix and because it's a bassman and not a marshall it has the right amount of low end to work with the bass drum
  4. I've been playing about with using my overdriven bassman to filling in for a lack of rhythm guitarist and it seems to be working well when mixed with a DI. I'm looking at buying my own 2x12/4x12 as guitarists arn't happy when i ask to use their cab as they think i'll distroy it. I used a Marshall 1960a for recording but don't really like them for live use. Has anyone else tried doing this and ended up buying?

  6. i was thinking of not saying anything about the bass, only that i'd be selling two seymour duncan ric pickups and a hipshot ric bridge attached to the correct shape body as ebay allows the OEM parts to contain the word Rickenbacker in the title
  7. so how would I sell my faker if ebay is so strict?

  10. at the moment i'm in need of two things, one of them is an 8x10 and the other is an Ampeg preamp. Either i'd give this up for
  11. My aerodyne had a meeting with ebay and never come back, really miss it
  12. What i was hoping to achieve was more of a B15 type tone from one of the channels in the same way that some guitar amps have differently voiced preamp sections, being able to have one amp with 3 or 4 classic sounding preamps in would be ideal. What made me think of changing valves was the already present baxandall eq on 3 of the 4 channels, everything i'd read was said the 6SL7 valve sounded more musically pleasing and had been swapped using a secondry 9 pin to 8 pin converter. I'll the trying lower gain valves first tho. I'm not looking for exact cloned tones as that'd be impossable to achieve in one valve amp without some form of modeling.
  13. I was looking at changing the valves in my valve pa head from the standard 12ax7 to a 6SL7 as it also has a baxandall eq. The only problem i've read about is the added noise. Has anyone tried this?

  15. I use almost the same setup when i get the chance. Using guitar channel for normal playing then a bit of grind from the bass channel as it's got more gain via an a/b switch, also great with a Ric via stereo output. I got mine blackfaced, sends more gain to the poweramp and makes it sound more pre cbs 60's
  16. The Quad 6 was Warwicks flagship amp form the mid 90's to early 00's. Seeing it being used by session pros wasn't uncommon as it covers everything from Eden style super clean to SVT on 11 in a 600 watt 2 unit package. I've been playing this amp for the past 12 years in various bands and genres and never been unable to get a good and fitting tone. I've not played through many amps that with a flat eq will make almost any bass sound amazing. A quick google search will tell you that the Quad 6 has three 12ax7's and an el84. The rebranded version of the Quad 6, the tubepath was available in a 500 and 1000 watt version but used 2 fewer valve stages in the preamp. The power section of the Quad 6 has an el84 at the front end to give all the valve power amp drive and dirt without the weight and drives a 600 watt mosfet monster of a power section. The Quad 6 is very different from other hybrid amps, it's more a valve amp without the on going costs of servicing. I'd be looking for £400 for this amp but that includes a 3u flightcase. I'm more than happy to consider trades on this
  17. Best DI i've played through is a Type 85. Great for valve amps when used between the amp and cab, like a bleed free mic
