Personally I swear by Seymour Duncan. I use the Antiquity range or SPB1s. If you want more growl I'd suggest an SPB3 from the Seymour Duncan range.
yea ive heard the same ones mentioned before.wonded if anyone had actually put either on the cv bass.

3. Anyone changed the original pups on the cv 60's p-bass to somethin more growly?want mine to sound a bit more aggressive as its a bit lifeless and quieter than my vintage bass.Wizard thumper maybe or seymour duncan?Or can i get away with some really good strings?think i have got ernie balls on at the moment.Dont want to not gig the bass as its great to play and fairly light.Ideas please.
4. i wish ashdown would make a compact neo 1x15,you have the choice of a mini 15 or the full size one at the moment.i suppose they would make one to order or stick a 15" driver in a 2x10 cab and adjust the port accordingly.
5.
Sweet. I have the a growing urge to move to something like that cabwise. So do you feel you are getting more balls from the new set up over your old (was that the 4x10?). Tell me a bit more about the non eq option you are going with? what do you have stuff set to? Might have a go at something similar and see
with the eq off you can wind the pre-amp up more(you probably know that already)this gives a better sound imo.i had the valve drive on about 10 o'clock, didnt bother with the sub harmonics and tried the flat shape in then out to decide which sound i wanted.i know of a few people who dont bother with the eq,dont now why i have not tried it until now. Also i rolled the tone off a bit on my vintage bass.i must say again that with the vintage bass i had a more growly sound than my cv 60's p-bass which gives you more of a old school sound, still nice though. The abm compact 1x15 i was using is a uk made one about 4 yrs old.these are imo better than the new ones although the only difference i know of is that they are only 335mm deep not 420mm like newer ones. The classic neo 2x10 is the same depth(not as stated on ashdowns website!)as my compact so fits nicely on top.My abm 4x10 is now redundant and up for sale.If you can i would try a classic cab as they are not so exspensive now at some online stores and so much better!
6. i gigged last nite for the first time using my new classic neo 2x10 cab with an abm 1x15 c hooked up as well, with my abm 500w powering them.the difference in the 2x10 is unbelieveable from what ive been used to.clearer, louder and brighter.when we were soundchecking the doors were rattling and things bouncing off shelves.however i did not realise that the eq takes so much volume away when its in.i can now get a sound i want without using the eq so now have more power.my cheap vintage p-bass is also louder than my not quite so cheap classic vibe 60's p-bass,so happy days
7.
Does anyone know where they might end up being stocked from February then?
hopefully most ashdown dealers will have a demo one to try.apart from my local store dont count on it being febuary though,we know how new models get delayed!
8.
WTF!!!! I heard it'll be under 40lbs too! I think I NEED one of these, assuming they're any good of course. Any ideas on when they'll be available?... Eude
it weighs 14kg,should be available feb 2010.They assure me that the LB30 will be loud enough for gigging.i will be trying one asap.
9. word from ashdown is that the LB 30 watt valve head will be £399 when it becomes available.supposingly its as loud as an abm 500w head!
10. the ashdown combo looks a bit naff, you cant beat the look of their classic range imo.But i suppose its all about the sound at the end of the day,not what it looks like.
11. talkin to ashdowns chris bates yesterday he said their website needed updating, now i can see why!so much choice to wipe out a few competitors who are not keeping up with the times!chris also told me they have changed from celestion neo drivers to emminence due to availability.
12. get the uk made mk11 abm head and uk made 1x15 compact to go with your 2x10,sorted!
13. they pop up on here or evilbay from time to time,at a good price too!check the for sale section on here.
14. i have a abm 1x15 compact, its the older uk made cab and it sounds v good.would go well with the mag head, you can pick them up for around £130.Add another cab to it when funds permit.in my experience the uk made abm cabs are better than the new ones for some reason.
15. I have an abm compact 1x15 and could not believe how loud it was, nice sound too with my abm head.it is a older uk made one, they are only 33 cm deep instead of 42cm which the new ones are.great value s/h.
16. you should be able to get a fairly decent combo for £300.make sure its 300 watt at least as they mostly only put out their full power with a extension cab connected.i had a trace elliot 300w combo and it was more than loud enough in pubs and clubs. Also ashdowns mag range of combo's will be within your budget although they are a bit heavy.
17. you can pick up a 500w abm 11 head off evilbay for £250/300.great amps imo.cheapest new is £499.i have had mine for 18 months without any problems and ashdowns after sale service can not be beaten.
18. for £325 you should be able to get a s/h 500w 2x10 ashdown abm combo, which would be better imo.
19. my guitarist uses and collects hh gear.great sound.
